This is the type of game for which Nintendo is known; completely orignial, unique, and fun. Say what you want about whether it is your idea of a good time, but you have to give credit to Nintendo for releasing such an original, out of the ordinary game. If you enjoy strategy games, don't be afraid of the "weird" factor in this game. I was very uneasy with the plant, nature, garden themes I had read were associated with this game. I received it for Christmas and can not quit playing!
This game is pure strategy from beginning to end. It is also very difficult and addictive. I am an older gamer, and to me, for a videogame to hold my attention and interest for this long of a period of time is amazing.
The controls are very simple to master. The gamecube controller is amazingly well-designed and perfectly suited for this game. There is no load time, and the graphics are amazing.
Surprisingly, the "cute" factor lies in the sounds, and not the graphics. The Pikmin sound like the chipmunks from Alvin and the Chipmunks, but to me, this was funny and not too juvenile.
The most frustrating aspect to this game is the time constraints. If you find yourself saving at the end of each day without finding a part or two a day, you will be sorry. Days must be mastered in order to find all parts within the 30 day time limit. Each day is only 15 minutes in actual time, and if you are like me, is not near enough time to justify a save without multiple repeats.
Hey Nintendo, bring on Pikmin 2!
really ccol:kina short

OK. Everyone, or most, seem to think that there are several problems with Pikmin. Everyone thinks that the game's problems are:
-The thirty day time limit
-The lack or replayability
-Having only 3 types of pikmin
-Each day being only 15 minutes
-The Pikmin are hard to control
-The game is too short
Those are the main problems i have read over the reviews of this game. Even if you don't agree with all of those problems i'm sure there's atleast one on that list that you might kind of agree with. If so, let me explain. The thirty day time limit is a way to help you be organized and without it the game would be pointless. When i played the game for the first time i thought it could be frustrating at times but it made me think ahead and i could sometimes even feel my adrenaline pumping because i had less days than i had parts to get.
The lack of replayability does not even exist with this game. I don't understand what replayability is if this game does not have it. If you look up to the manufacturer's review or some reveiew up at the top it says one of the game's strengths is the nonlinear strategic gameplay. That means that you can play all the levels and the tasks required to beat the game in any way you want. For example on day 7 one person might be in the forest naval getting a part when someone else choses to stay in the last are a getting a different part. This is because of the nonlinear gameplay.you could get none or 5 parts in a day. The order of parts isn't even set. This means that there must be thousands of different ways to beat this game. Including how many different days you could beat it in. You could beat the game a second or third time to beat the game in less days. I will be honest that i played and have beaten this game 30 times probably by now.I did that and every time it was different.
People also say it has not enough kinds of pikmin. i think three is the perfect number. And notice the colors(all yellow, red, and blue which are the prime clors meaning you can make any color with those three colors). Each one has it's own ability too. If you still think there should be more just wait for pikmin 2 to come out. there's going to be skinny albinos and pudgey purples.
I also think that each day being 15 minutes was fine. If you think about what your going to do and concentrate you can get up to 4 or 5 parts a day. I have done it and i know it's possible because i have beaten the game in 9 days probably over a dozen times. If you just mess up you can always restart and it's not the end of the world. I also hear people saying that restarting the levels are a pain because they run out of time in each day, but if "each day is so short" like they also say then what's the big deal?!
Another thing that people say is that it is hard to control. i must agree that there are a lot of controls, yet it didn't take me long at all to get all of the controls down. I think the more ontrols the better because each control is helpful when attacking enemies. And the constant need of adjusting the camera just means you always have a good angle.
i do agree that the game could be longer but it doesn't really bother me that much since i think the replay value is so high. THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Better Than Expected

Shigeru Miyamota, who created characters like Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, and all other great characters returns to bring us a new concept. This time, it involves dozens of tiny creature called pikmin. Unlike all Shigeru's other concepts, started off with complete 3D worlds and great graphics.
The main character in the game is a man named Captain Olimar. He has crashed on an uncharted planet filled with wierd creatures. Most of which want to eat him, but luckily he finds helpfull creatures that are picked from the ground. As the game goes on, more and more of these creatures a pulled from the ground, and help Olimar return the missing pieces of his ship, so he can get off the planet before his life-support system shuts off by day 30.
The controls are simple as in all Nintendo games. The C-stick is used to the control the movement of the Pikmin, but they will only go a certain distance away from Olimar. The control stick is used to move Captain Olimar, and to changed the location of where the Pikmin will land when thrown. The A button is used to grab and throw Pikmin when they are following, but when Pikmin are not following it can be used as a punch. The B button is used to call Pikmin back, but it has a range. The R button is used to zoom in and out, and the Z button is used to change the direction from over head to aerial. The L button changed the view to behind the character. The X button is used to halt the movement of Pikmin. When the Pikmin do not move, they will not respond to commands unless they are touched, or called back with B.
There are three different types of Pikmin. Red Pikmin have the ability to withstand great temperatures, meaning they do not get hurt by flames. Yellow Pikmin are very light and have very big ears, so they can be thrown higher and further then the others, and also pick up bomb rocks which are very useful. Blue Pikmin have gills, so they die when they enter water. Each of these different colors are used individually to gather ship pieces, or used together to gather ship pieces.
This is an entertaining game. Much more entertaining than I thought it would be. The graphics are amazing, and the monsters look silly of course, but that's the way the game is. The Pikmin design is rather simple, but they had to do a simple design so they could have a hundred of them on screen at once. Overall, this a fun game to play.
Entertainment = 8/10
Favorite Part of the Game = Watching the monster descriptions after the credits.
Like being a cult leader, without all the Kool Aid

I LOVE Pikmin. I've played the game over and over again, and it never gets old.
Note that this game is not a great deal of fun if you don't like real-time strategy games. Young children will get bored quickly. But if you like games like Red Alert, Age of Mythology, or even The Sims, give this one a shot.

Pikmin for the Nintendo GameCube is an excellent real time strategy game (RTSG). Created by Nintendo's star programmer Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong), Pikmin is a franchise that everyone will be playing for quite some time. The basic story behind the game, is that a little guy named Captain Olimar was driving his spaceship through space when it was hit by a mediator that sends him spinning out of control onto an unknown planet. During the freefall, Olimar's ship gets broken up into 30 different parts that Olimar has to find within 30 days before his oxygen tanks run out. The rest of the game basically involves doing this exact thing. There are 5 different areas in the game that have Olimar's parts spread out all over them. Throughout the game, Olimar encounters 3 different color Pikmin that all have different attributes that assist him in his attempt to gather up the 30 parts. Each day in the game lasts about 13 minutes so the overall length of the game is not that long, but since the game take multiple attempts to master, has 3 different endings, has an added Challenge mode which allows players to duke it out for high scores, Pikmin is a top notch game that is definitely a must have to anyone's GameCube library.

THIS GAME ROCKS.I love this game.It has gorgeous graphics, and very unique gameplay. The different pikmin and the special abillaties of each one really helps when youre stumped. Most of this game is original the story the monsters the pikmin everything. The pikmin are very weak but when you get more prepare for some very cool battles. The pikmin also have abillaties like building bridges and stuff. The only real problem is the time limit it is supposed to be 30 days but the days go by pretty fast and sometimes it takes a day to recooperate your Pikmin.Anyway simply put this game rocks!

Many will find this game awful while others will love it. But of course there will be more who like it so the games is a success.
I love the graphics for being a first Gamecube game. It totally beats PS2's graphics hands down. Many people will complain about he music but you'll probably never notice it unless you aren't really playing and just sitting there. The game is a strategy game because you have 3 types of Pikmin and each have their own ability so you have to be smart and plan ahead to know what to do. The game is also timed so it makes it even harder to play. Many will complain about this but that just means that they can't stand up to the test of racing against the clock and that they stink when it comes to strategy. Others might say there is no story line, well that's sort of true. Folks this isn't Final Fantasy, it's a simple plot: get Captain Olimar's ship put back together in 30 days with the help of the Pikmin. If you need plot to have a fun game then you need to find another game or just actually try to like something different for a change. Well what I'm getting at is that this game is already a success and even with all the negatvie feedback this game may get the game will still be a 4 1/2 star game.
If you do get this game MAKE SURE you have a memory card. Remember this isn't cartridges anymore folks we are to CD's so you HAVE to have a memory card other wise you can't save. For all the negative feedback out there just go be quiet because no one cares and you can't stop this game from being a bad one :)
