Never trust SOE

Non-existent customer service. Very buggy core game. After 1 year StarWarsGalaxies is still practically in BETA. I have zero faith in SOE and I will not be purchasing JTL.

People should play the game before they review it.

This game is a lot of fun. It actually enhances the original game and gives reason to go back to playing on the ground. Of course you don't have to play the ground game to immediately jump into space combat. Right after I installed it I launched into space and ran my first mission to destroy 3 tie fighters (go rebels!).

I don't care if combat on the ground is balanced or not, or if my profession is broken. For now I will fly around blasting tie fighters out of the sky while they fix the stuff on ground.

I can join my friends in their non combat space yacht, man the turret while my friend flies his Ywing, and hopefully have a huge ship with an interior as soon as I can afford one (by the way you can make money in space, you don't have to go hunt on the ground for cash). Don't listen to what these people "assume" the game is like, listen to people who have played... like me!

this game RULES!

Not worth your time or money.

The very basic, core concept of balanced combat within the game has been broken since launch. Now, after a year of patches and fixes, the combat system is even more broken. Players are very upset and the community is leaving in droves. I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone as SOE (the publisher) have continually lied to the players saying "we're working on it" while in reality, the whole development team has been working on the expansion instead. SOE doesn't care about the game, or whether or not its fun to play. They're just interested in earning as much as possible. Play at your own risk.

There are sooo many things still broken with the ground game and now SOE tells us that those issues will be pushed back 6 to 10 months to make this new expansion. If the first part of the game is still bugged after over a year, what do you think the expansion will be like?

If you think star wars should have people run around with swords and you dont mind the developers care nothing for the players and you dont mind being killed by the hundreds of Jedi on each server then maybe this game is for you.

The potential is being realized

My title says it all. I was involved in Beta, and was thoroughly disgusted with this game at the beginning. The joystick control was terrible. I even quit playing beta, thinking, "this is the end of SWG."
Fortunately, I had preordered JTL. Since I'd paid for it, I loaded it up...
...and was very happily surprised. New art, new scenes, new interaction, new action...awesome. JTL really rounds out SWG. I love the space combat, and the joystick controls are really good, in my opinion. You don't have to worry about getting an uber ship right away...in fact, you can get a free starter ship as many times as you need, and I filled out my first skill boxes with it no problem. The ships are no where near as expensive as I'd thought they be, so that was great! Most of the expensive components you get through combat. I had all the components I needed before I even bought my first ship. It cost 300K. I was expecting a ship to cost around 5 million. So, no, you don't need to spend 3 months gathering credits. Unless you're an idiot. But I digress.
The icing on the cake is the release from SOE that the next patches will focus on the ground game's combat system. They'll probably be done patching by March of next year...I'd say 4 to 6 months, though we may be pleasantly surprised. They're already taking apps for the beta, so we'll see.
My advice is...take the advice of people who stopped playing 6 months ago, and said "give it year" only, I think you might want to check the game out NOW, instead of being a newb in a fantastic world 6 months from now :)
SWG's potential is being realized!

Educate Yourself

Visit starwarsgalaxies.com, or for an insightful interview regarding SWG and JTL visit www.ignpc.com, take your time, educate yourself. Take a long hard look at what is actually going on in the game now, how dissapointed and hurt the core player base is with chasing the carrot (promises) of having what can be a GREAT game, fixed. Intelligent and well written, yet critical, posts in the forums at the above web address are deleted and censored by moderators, and PM's to those same moderators requesting "why" said posts were deleted and users were threatened with being suspended from the forums, go answered.

SWG is a great concept, but wait on JTL. This review has an ulterior motive, aside from wanting to provide potential consumers with a link to educate themselves, I am a current player of SWG who feels that before expansions, current game content and bugs should be fixed, so JTL may be released on a solid foundation. Thank you.

SOE should be burned to the ground for releasing this game. Not only have they accomplished jack in over a year, they are delaying important fixes for the game so they can WEASEL more money out of YOU for an expansion. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME, I REPEAT STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME AND SOE AT ALL COST.

SWG has been nothing but a bugfest, its the most expensive MMORPG to date per month. And they do not listen to a word people say. Bugs that have been around since launch still exist and keep getting pushed back for the expansion.

Dont waste your time.

A $30 expansion for a base game that simply does not work?

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is the base game upon which this expansion is based.

Said base game simply does not work.

Save your money and sanity.

The game itself, in theory, is good. You can choose from a variety of professions, many of them appealing to people who aren't interested in combat roles. The graphics are stunning on a good computer.

Having said that, those are the only good things about the game. Combat is incredibly unbalanced, despite developer promises that changes are "in the works." (The works have apparently not started yet, according to a recent interview, despite numerous statements to the community that they were almost done). If you think you might enjoy one of the non-combat professions, don't bother. Entertaining is great fun at first, but becomes mind-numbingly boring after watching your character perform the same 2 moves over and over again. Crafting is varied and complex - unfortunately, searching for resources (many of which are specialized and rarely spawn) consumes much of your time, and unless you use the best resources, don't expect to sell anything you make.

The game has incredibly poor community relations, the opposite of which is something you'd expect in an online game (keep in mind you're paying $15 every month for the privelage of playing a game with bugs too numerous to list, most of which have been present since the game went for sale over a year ago).

I don't hate the game, but I do consider it a collossal waste of time and money.
