SoE Strikes Back!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 3 / 7

I've been gaming online since Meridian 59 in the early 90s. Never before in my life have I seen a company like SoE treat their customers in the fashion that they have.

I played for about two months before losing all faith in SWG. The game could've been great, however, the serious lack of support and talent has ruined this game.

I truely hope to God that this game tanks and SoE loses their @$$. If you crap on your player community--they quit. At least I never bought EQ or EQ2. Anyone who just collects a check and doesn't deliver should be fired.

If I was to ever consider starting a gaming company, I would not hire the guys from this piece of work.

Thank God new online titles are coming out.

Great add-on But Why do we have to pay for it?

We are charged $15 per month to play the game online, which is fine. But why make us pay addition cost for the add-on? With games like City of Heros out there SWG might be in trouble. I say "Give us the expantions for free".

Ignore the other reviews, they're just the voice of minority

People are just furious over the lack of showing from the developers, heck, they're not even worth listening too, the other reviews are just biased reviews that should NOT infulence you in any way.

I will show the positive and negatives of the game and JTL

Hits (SWG):

+Live the Star Wars Universe
+Interesting players
+Beautiful Graphics

Misses:
-Not enough content
-Infested with bugs
-Combat WAY too imbalanced

Hits: (JTL)
+The return of X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter against players
+Very large areas to explore
+Able to Custom build starfighters

Misses:
-Will Make or Break SWG
-No atmospheric flight
-Expansion released WAY to early

The others are totaly biased on the game, I stated both sides, the biased reviews are saying to avoid the game at all costs. I'm say, don't listen to them, don't listen to me, what do you think about the game.

Try it. JTL promises to be good, SWG is fun

Ok, I'm a hard core player. Always loved all Star Wars related games. Been playing SWG for almost a year, and I still love the game, yes it does have it's deffects, bugs and stuff, but hey, you have to play it, try it. If you really love Star wars, you're gonna love the game, there is tons of stuff to do, and JTL promises to be fun. It's a huge game, one of it's class. So my advice to you, try it, and make your own conclutions. And have fun!

This expansion will make a good game great...

Read every negative post that you see here with a huge grain of salt. There are a lot of people who like to whine and complain about certain things in this game. But they ignore the fact that there is no other game on the market as large as SWG, no other Developer crew that takes player feedback into account as much as SWG, and no other franchise with a larger playerbase at this point in its history.

Jump to Lightspeed will be AWESOME. I've seen the screenshots, seen the Demo at the SWG Fan Fest and there is nothing that will make this game more fun than this expansion.

Order it and let the naysayers quit - they don't play much anyway.

used to be a fun game until the dreaded 'combat update'

I played this game for over two years but canceled my account yesterday due too horrible additions that 80% of the test server players rated bad on a poll. But since SOE does not listen to it's customers they not only added the update but pushed it out early. It's not an 'update' it is a completely new game nothing like the original. many of the classes have been changed for the worse. Doctors, combat medics, and crafters especially. a pure crafter character is no longer viable and crafting at all is no longer viable if you want to have a efficient fighter. In fact pure crafters can't even kill a lvl 1 monster, which makes the getting or resources impossible. Monsters are no longer solo-able. they added a new level system yet stuff 1 lvl lower than me would kill me in about 2 hits and the only stuff i could kill didn't give any xp at all. The way the game stands now, its the worse on line game out there, which is sad because b4 this update it was one of the best. This used to be a wonderful game but i recommend world of warcraft now. Sony has ruined the world of Star Wars

To the "one-star'ers"

You guys are just flaming a game that you no longer enjoy. Get over it.

Proof that the Casual Community kills games.

I beta tested the original SWG core and found it to be, well, buggy, poorly thought out, and, while pretty, pretty un-Star Wars. In fact, it was hardly any good as an MMORPG. The reason for this was simple: SOE listened to the "players." The success of previous games (and later ones, i.e. WOW and EQ2), with a level system, basic combat skills, quests and ancillary crafting proves that the majority of the real MMORPG community prefers what SWG has become: a primarily combat/grouping (read as: multiplayer) game. The original game was 2 things that finally caused me to quit a few months after release:

Unintuitive and downright stupid.

In most games, combat makes sense. In old SWG the hidden level system made combat a matter of guessing games on enemy "con" and varied your ability too much based on the absurd reliance on buffs. Non-combat classes could be buffed to the hilt and go out and solo monsters that they should never have been able to scratch. Furthermore, the early Star Wars was often known as Pet Wars, due to the heavy reliance on Creature Handling and factional based pets to, essentially, play the game for the plaeyr. And lets not mention the afk combat macros that were common. SWG wasn't about playing a game for many of the "old veterans" you are reading from. It was about making the game play itself while you were off making a sandwich.

And what about that HAM system in combat?

Huh?

Oh yeah, getting shot in the head with a rifle does "mind" damage. Well, that would make sense, if it wasn't "mental" damage and not actual health damage because of a shot to the brain. Carbines... they do "action" damage. Yeah, that makes sense.

The combat upgrade is universally loathed by the long term player base because these people aren't gamers. They are causal players who had a system where they could commit very little to a game and still get the top rewards. Instead, the CU has created a system that actually makes sense again (imagine that). The whiny playerbase that killed the game by demanding things that real MMORPG players wanted (how many players know of entire real gaming guilds (you know, ones that have been around for more than 1 game) fleeing this game to find something more interesting and challenging?) are the ones that are now complaining.

If you have not played SWG since around release or have no experience with it at all, its not a bad idea to give it a shot and see if its for you. If you have experience with EQ, EQ2, DAOC, AC, WOW, then you should be on track to understanding the experience. JTL was a necessary expansion that grafted a more robust version of the X-wing/TIE games onto the ground based core, and is, in my opinoin, superior to those in its replayability. As much as I loved the originals, XvT, BoP, and Alliance, JTL is all those with the freedom to do with it what you want, rather than just run the same single player missions again, or jump into a multiplayer furball. Right now, the missions are there, the quests are there, but it could use more growth. Hopefully we'll see that. Still, its providing more time for me, just in JTL, than in any of the previous single X-wing games, which makes it worth the cost right there.

In the end, if you didn't like the CU, and you quit, well, good for you. I can't comment on the longterm playability again, but after playing again for a while, I can say its much more fun this time around than it was at any time since release. Plenty to do, a system that finally makes sense, and a great X-wing sequel game attached.

Not quite as good an overall game as World of Warcraft or the first 4 eras of EQ (EQ1-> Planes of Power) but finally, at least, a good solid game.

I love this game

I love Star Wars Galaxies and the beta for Jump to lightspeed is great. I know there has been some negative reviews here but I can not name one game that is more fun then this. I play with my friends who i haven't seen in years from across the country. You can't make everyone happy in a game this HUGE, but I am one of the happy ones. Jump to lighspeed is going to be great and i can't wait until it goes live.

BEST GAME EVER MADE!!
