This game is awesome, the graphics are awesome, everything's awesome. When I put this game in I was blown away. This game is so much fun. It's so detailed too. When you jump into water and get out water drips down you're visor. When you kill some creatures blood will splatter on you're visor. When you go near electric enemies your visor gets all staticky. The bosses are so cool. The weapons Samus get are killer. If you don't have this game GO BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't have Gameboy Advance?

I just bought this game used... I like this game, but when I found out you need Gameboy Advance just to play the original Metroid (and yes, you play the NES version of Metroid on your Gamecube, so I have no idea why you need the Gameboy Advance!) I nearly took this game back along with the Gamecube, which I am thinking very strongly about! Nintendo is pulling a Bill Gates and making you buy this and that for you to play extras! EXTRAS! On PS2 all the extras are included ON THE PS2! On Gamecube, you have to purchase a Gameboy Advance at practically the same price you bought the Gamecube for just to play extras! This is totally a disservice by Nintendo and I am not buying anything from that company ever again. I wanted to give this zero stars, but Amazon.com is too lenient on things that deserve to be tossed in the fire!

My wife bought me a game cube and this game because I told her that I would probably by a GC just for this game becasue of all the wonderful things I've heard about it. I also tend to collect games/systems.
I've obviously seen this game before and apprecaite the graphics and presentation and attention to detail that went into creating this game.
However, I cannot get past the fact that it doesn't let you change the controller to something more natural. The gameplay allows the character to strafe and look around and so on, but it is controlled in the oddest of ways. Most games that play in the first person perspective allow the use of two analog sticks for control, one for character movement and the other for which direction to look in. The lack of this basic control scheme annoys to no end and it is the reason I don't enjoy playing this game as much as I would have hoped to. It is the reason I give it 3 stars.
I just hope that the sequel to this game MP2 will allow a more normal control setup.
more Turok less Goldeneye

pros
. super graphics
. not a "run around and shoot on everything thats moving" game
. the old Metroid can be unlocked
. awsome boss fights
cons
. reminds to much of the first Turok game
. it is pointless to run around and scan everything
. the sound is really bad
. the control is to hard to master
. no multiplayer
. you need a GBA whit a copy of Metroid fusion and a gc/gba link caple to unlock the old metroid
SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes the graphics good. gameplay incredibly boring. easy game youll blaze right trough it.repeating the same repetitive action the same thing over and over with no innivation or challenge. i think halo is better than this. if you want a better shooter sell the gaycube and get xbox. or get jak 2 on playstation 2. those games are both better than metroid prime. MUCH BETTER ...PEOPLE.``.
Very Atmospheric game

I got this game with the purchase of my SECOND gamecube. The first one kept freezing up or not starting the game at all, and I am very careful with my games. Anyways, I rented this game on my first gamecube and I was blown away by the graphics, the sound, everything. I felt like i was in a different world completely, and nothing anyone said was going to take me away from that world. Then the game froze. I played again, and it froze. I was really pissed off.
Then I got a new gamecube after about six months later, and it came with Metroid Prime. I had never played the game until today, just because I was bored with all the other games that I have beaten to death. About 1 to 1 and a half hours into the game, it FROZE! It was a completely different copy of the game and a different game system. Maybe I just have bad luck...
Good effort, maybe a little too much.

I wasn't going to write a review until after finishing the game. But after playing the game for about 3 straight months, it doesn't seem like I'll be done anytime soon. I gave it two stars for some nice graphic touches (like being able to see Samus' face reflect off the visor during certain lighting situations) and some cool features like the morph ball. However, it's nothing more than a 2d game put into 3d. There isn't anything really special. If you want a really good sci-fi, 1rst person shooter game, then checkout Halo for the xbox. In comparison, Metroid lacks any ai, is very very long and very very slow, plus the controls are very awkward. Compared to Halo, your movements are slow and restricted and the gameplay is overall boring. The problem I think lies in the fact that you're constantly going back and forth between maps. You complete a huge map only to have to come back to it 50 times again, and go through the same bad guys as before. This gets very repetitive, tedious and boring. Another problem is the way objectives are provided. Some objectives won't be known to you until after a certain period of time has elapsed. So what I do is I leave the game, go and do something else, and come back to see if my objective is revealed. Otherwise, you might be going in the opposite direction of your next objective, only to have to find out later, that you're suppose to go back to where you came from and go the other way (Very irritating). Some people like this game and I respect their opinion, but if you're the type who doesn't like long repetitive games with slow progress, then ask a friend who has the game if you can borrow it for about a year.
The mistakes it makes are mortal sins

Don't get me wrong, it is a good game.
The story is that you are a bounty hunter and got a distress signal from a ship attacked by space pirates. You go there and tinker around, only to find the ship is about to explode. You get back to your ship and crash onto a planet, but you have lost all your weapons and armor and need to collect them.
The way you do that is turn on the hint system and it will tell you to go to a certain area. Before you get a special weapon, you have to fight a boss.
Samus's moves are weak at first but grow. You learn to do all sorts of things. The only thing you can do at first is fire your blaster. Later, you will be able to charge your blaster, fire missiles, roll into a ball.......
Aside from your gun, you have to pay attention to your visor. It will show you vital things like your enemy radar and a shrunken map of the area. You will upgrade your visor later on. It will go as far as becoming an x-ray visor.
Samus also will improve her armor. Basics only here. First it will do nothing. Then you can walk in high biohazards and double jump.
The game will make you trip out emotionally. It does a great job making you feel alone and scared (Only while you are weak you will feel scared). It is like you are against the world. Samus never speaks the entire game and has no assiocation with any living organism. Blow them all up.
The graphics are amazing. The details cut right to the bone. You can look up into the sky and shoot at some birds or you can actually get water droplets on your visor when walking near a waterfall.
The music is all too easy to ignore. It is played at a barely audible level.
The mistakes the game does make are mortal sins like I said. When you first start, the game will go along smoothly. Later in the game, you will have to backtrack for miles. Almost an HOUR mile. Then you have to worry about all the threats while you are backtracking. And each time you go through a door, you should have an uncontrolible urge to look at the map to see what path you need to go through in order to get to your distination. Worst of all, you will probably do this after every hall, door, and field. Like I said, you may backtrack for an hour or more.
The save system sucks. You have to go to a special pod and save in a certain spot. They are spread very far apart, hard to find, and they are just below several of them. You more than not, will die after two hours of complete progress before you get to the save system two doors over.
One problem is, like I did, may not finish the game. Before you get to the end, you are asked to collect twelve artifacts by backtracking everywhere. Two gamer peeves right there.
Overall, the game is fun, yet so bad. I do like the fact that the female bounty hunter is shown on the same level as male game characters. No sexist sterotypes here.
I recommend you rent it.
