This game was the first game I got for gamecube, and I played this game everyday for three months going through the complex levels and bosses. This game is amazing in every single detail and aspect. It has the coolest enemies and monsters, and a well described plot. The whole game play is very well laid out, and the secrets and mysteries throughout the game are enthralling and exciting. There is no enemy ever, in the history in gaming that can come close to comparing Metroid Prime, the final boss in the game. The AI in this game is another exceptional thing about it, that also makes it more fun and challenging. From the beginning screen shot, to the final ending sequence, I was amazed by this game. I almost was sad when I beat this game, for it had put such a great memory in my mind from playing it. It will forever be one of the greatest games that I will have the pleasure of playing, along side Metroid Prime 2 echoes, which I am playing right now. Get this game, play through it's entire storyline, and you will have the same impression as I do.
A must-have masterpiece for the GameCube

Presentation - Metroid reborn in 3D, and an impressive sci-fi fantasy to boot. Awesome menus. Design is great from concept to execution. Few games are this polished. Graphics - A stunning art vision that deserves major recognition, jaw-dropping world architecture, and volumes of pretty textures. At 60 fps with progressive scan support, there are few that compare. Sound - The original Nintendo composer delivers another opus and fantastically designed sound effects compliment the mood with Dolby Pro Logic II support. Gameplay - A true masterpiece; an accomplishment that will be recognized for years. It is Super Metroid in 3D, and it's as complex and wonderful as any gamer could want. Any self-respecting gamer must own it. Lasting Appeal - 30+ hours to average completion. Requires much longer to earn 100%. Unlock art galleries, difficulty settings, and connect to GBA for extras. No multiplayer, but like Zelda, do we need it? Metroid on the NES was one of the first epic games I ever experienced. My brother and I, at the age of about seven, spent weeks and months questing through the password-enabled adventure. It had a certain charm to it, and even if I couldn't describe it then it made an impact on me. Then along came Super Metroid in 1994, and I was totally blown away by how brilliant it was. It was a perfect videogame in my mind. It was edgy, home to a fantastic power-up system, full of awesome bosses, and the gameplay style was a soul mate to me. Needless to say, I have an unhealthy obsession with the franchise. So, when Metroid Prime was finally announced I was both thrilled and frightened to see how it would turn out. But after several years of very hard work, Retro Studios and Nintendo have translated the same genius of Super Metroid into 3D with very few casualties. Because of that, Metroid Prime has not only become my most beloved title on GameCube, but also one of my most treasured games of all time. I'm not sure where I place it, but it's very high on the list. If I had to make one personal observation, it would be that the change to first-person perspective was brilliant for its move to 3D, but not perfect. I felt comfortable (even in awe) 90% of the time, but there are a few boss fights where it can frustrate. It's extremely rare, but something you should be aware of going into it. It's nothing that sours the overall quality, though. That said, I would recommend Metroid Prime as an absolute buy -- skip the renting facade -- for every owner of a GameCube. It's a real collector's item. You'll want to keep this one even after your done spending 30+ hours with it. (By the way, please note that Prime's timer does not count down when you're looking at the map, reading scan data, examining your research log, or viewing cut-scenes. So, while your clock my read closer to 20 hours at completion, you will have in fact played much more.) The only reason one would avoid it is if action/adventures are not part of your narrower taste in games. If you fall into that category, you have no idea what you're missing out on. Metroid Prime is an instant classic that you will use to measure forthcoming software by.

To me, this game might just be the best game out there for the gamecube system. First of all, it has THE BEST graphics I have seen so far on the gamecube, and it THE BEST gameplay I seen so far on the gamecube. Samus has four different beams, and four different visors, and with all this stuff you know the gameplay is gonna be good. Even though some may dissagree, this is most likely the best game for the Nintendo Gamecube.
This game is awesome

This is one of the best games ive ever played. You will not be disapointed. It is long and very fun.Another thing i like is that you have unlimited ammo, except for your missles.Too bad in metroid prime 2 echoes there is a limited amount of ammo.I bought metroid prime in 2002 and just recently beat it. It is really fun and has awesome graphics. If u are lookin for a game that is fun and will last a long time buy this game.

Metroid Prime is an excellent game. Not absolutely perfect, but still excellent. Even now, more than two years after its initial release, this is still a must-have for the Game Cube.
People keep calling this game an FPS (First Person Shooter), but it really isn't. This is an adventure platformer in 3-d. It requires strategy and exploration to complete. Players will find themselves returning to locations time and time again in order to unlock new secrets and rooms, unlike in a true FPS where levels are never revisited.
The game world is quite seamless. The environments are rich and detailed, but not overwhelming. The monsters are, for the most part, native animals that blend in well to their homes. And the plot is well-paced, never seeming too fast or too slow.
The learning curve is quite steep, because the controller setup is not typical for such first-person-perspective games. But once the player has become accustomed to the controls, play becomes fluid and intuitive. The lock-on targeting system works well, and allows for a wide range of movement. The relative difficulty of dodging and evasive moves is the one potential sticking point.
This game is quite challenging, but generally not overly so. But it can get quite frustrating if you can't find the one item you need to proceed at any given point. This happened to me about two hours into the game, and after several more hours of fruitless searching, I was literally snarling at my tv set in anger. Eventually, I had to go to an on-line walkthrough at gamefaqs.com to find the item I was missing.
One other problem is that there is a bug in the game that sometimes causes it to freeze when you use the very first elevator between the Landing Site and the Chozo Ruins. You definitely want to save your game before using this elevator.
There is very little to complain about in terms of the graphics. They are fluid and highly detailed, again without being overwhelming. At a few places there is a tiny bit of slowdown, and in some of the cut-scenes the character movement seems oddly slow and robotic. But those occasions are few and far between. The graphics are brilliant overall. The little details, in particular, really draw the player in. For example, as other people have mentioned, if the light flashes in just the right way, for a split-second you will see the reflection of Samus Aran on the inside of the visor.
The music is moody and atmospheric. It always sets the tone perfectly. Plus, musical transitions when entering a new area are so smooth that you barely notice the music has changed. Sound effects, such as terrain noises, monster growls, and the odd language of the Space Pirates, are all quite wonderful at setting the scene. Samus Aran herself never speaks, but then she has no companions to talk to. Ultimately, she comes across as exactly what she is: a silent, stoic ass-kicker.
The game has a fair amount of replay value, as well. There are three separate endings, the only difference between them being how much of the ending is actually revealed. Which of these three endings you get depends on how many things you scan using the scan visor. You only get the third, most revealing ending if you scan 100% of the log book entries. There are also several picture galleries that can be unlocked based, again, on how much of the log book scans you get, as well as how often you beat the game. Beating the game also unlocks "hard mode", as well as a couple extras you can get by linking to the GameBoy Advance game, "Metroid Fusion".
So, to sum up, not perfect but still an excellent game. If you have a Game Cube, get "Metroid Prime". Period.
Hard but Fun.

Th is is definetly one of the hardest games I've ever played. It rules though. The last boss, Metroid Prime, frusturated me but I finally beat it. It was a beautiful game. The graphics are outstanding. You should get it as soon as you can, so long as you have a gamecube.

First let me start off by saying that I'm not Gamecube biased and I'm just saying this because I have a Gamecube. 4 of my friends that have PS2's and XBox's have played this game and have said this is the best game they have ever played. One of these friends has played almost every video game created! played the game and just said wow. This game has it all. It has the feel of a shoot-em-up as your locked in on some Space Pirates, it has the feel of an adventure as your constantly searching and going back over the massive levels, it also has the feel of an action game as your rolled in the morph ball dropping bombs while rolling down a pipe with leeches on the wall. I could go on and on and on convincing everyone to get this game but I would be depriving myself of playing the game. I'm out... going to play my copy of Metroid Prime... the Best Game EVER!!

... The graphics are OUTSTANDING!!! Oh, but remember, graphics don't make the game. The controls are wonderful (ive played the demo) and it is from Samus's view, which makes it easy to see. There just AREN'T enough games with female characters, but this is one of the few. AND THE BEST. Lets just hope that it is as good as the previous Metroid games...*crosses fingers*
...
Whoever hates this game is evil!!

This is not "Homeschoolmom", this is her son! I think this is a great game! The graphics are awesome for the year it was made and the gameplay and controls are simple to master.
The only think I don't like about the game is the distance you have to travel to get where your going. It can be really frustrating!!
Other than that, this game is awesome and is one of my all-time favorite games!! I can't wait to get the other two Metroid games if this one is this good! Go Samus!!
