As a long time Nintendo and Zelda fan there is one thing I would like to say. Please do not be turned off by the cel-shading, cartoony graphics. It makes me angry to see people instantly shun a game because of the way it looks. Shigaru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda games, Mario games, and so many more games which we all love so much, stated in an interview that once players started playing the game, they would begin to understand and accept why Nintendo decided to go with this sort of graphics. If you are turned off by these graphics don't be, and please give this game a chance. I've played the game... it works. Shigaru Miyamoto has never let us down. Nintendo did not do this to attract younger audiences, they have their reasons and the game will appeal to adults as well as children, I am completely confident that this game will be one of the best games in the series, if not the world.
Buy this game... if you don't believe me, rent it, you'll love it.

Is it the best Zelda franchise ever?
Yes, if you take the challenge size, the variety of actions Link can perform, and of course, the biggest quality made possible by Nintendo Game Cube console.
No, if you look for an original feeling. That original feeling in Zelda series happen in Ocarina of Time, and will be hard to occur again.
I've heard that it uses a cartoon graphic style. Isn't it terrible?
No. In fact, Link expressions are much better now. He is wiser, his look help you solving some puzzles, and i am sure Myamoto's option in graphics matches perfectly with game playability. I think some players will like it at first sight, while others will get used and will like it after some minutes playing.
Is it hard?
Yes, if you think about new tricks avaiable now. New puzzles, new challenges at the sea (sailing a boat, seeking sunked treasure chests, looking for sea chart)
No, if you are used to Zelda Games. The way of solving the puzzles is almost the same as in Ocarina and Majora's. Look carefully to each dungeon, light some fire, use the hook, grab/push some blocks, aim for enemies eye and you will going far.
How much time I need to finish the game?
If you are a great gamer, 2 weekends are enough to end it, giving attention only to main quest. Solving all side quests may take you 2 or 3 more weekends. (There are a lot of side quests)
Will I get bored quickly with this game?
Every Zelda franchise combine unique RPG challenge with amazing moments of adventure and battle, so, you just get bored with it if your don't like this style. The big variety of scenarios and things to do will put you with a big glass of water and some cookies at the sofa.
Wich items can I use?
The same as in last games: sword, bottles, grappling hook, boomerang.
Plus: sail, telescope, wind waker and deku leaf (which make you fly if you drop from high places)
What about the story? What is the core concept of this game?
Long time ago latest adventure (100 years, the creators say), Link is living at Outset Island, with Aryll, his little sister, and his grandma. After long living peace, and wind of evil is spreaded in the world, where a big bird is capturing girls with long ears. Link's sister, Aryll, is surrounded by that bird, and stay prisioned at Forsaken Fortress, where Ganon (Big Boss in every Zelda) takes place now. When Aryll is caught, some pirates where at Outset Island, and they give a hide and a big help to Link start the adventure. Later he will find a sailing boat, that will help him a lot.
So, I must buy it?
Yes. I would define Wind Waker as the Ocarina of Time at the sea.
With the same fun and challenge of speaking to different people, get lost in dungeons, be frightned at first sight with big bosses, etc. etc. etc.
Plus, you can control the wind with your Wind Waker (it has the same mechanic as the ocarina, playing tunes), you sail a boat, and other great factor: the characters who interact with you are smarter. The dialogue has some sorts of jokes with a bit of irony.
I am truly a Zelda fan, and I think this is still the best way to spend money if you have a Nintendo Game Cube.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

The Wind Waker is a great addition the the Legend of Zelda series. It has a great combination of terrific graphics, a fantastic story-line, and delightful charactors. The new Cel-Shaded graphics are great! I found with the previous games that they were so dark, and I found myself squinting at them to try to make out the pictures. The Wind Waker is happier, even when you're fighting bosses its bright colours make it very lively. At first I was a bit confused at the idea of sailing around on a boat. 'Won't you get lost?' I thought. But there are many extra islands in the game, so soon you learn how to get to the major islands that you use the most. I actually found the other games more confusing then this one. The Ballad of Gales helps too because of the warping. If you forget what you are supposed to be doing you can just talk to your boat, the King of Red Lions, and he will tell you what to do. At first the whole boat idea didn't sound very good to me. But how is the boat any different from your horse in The Ocarina of Time? I really liked how Tetra was princess Zelda. As Tetra she appeared as just a mean old pirate, but you could see that she was really nice inside. And when she realized that she was Zelda she is really sweet and only cares that Gannon gets sealed away and that Link is safe. She doesn't care about herself. In the beginning there were a lot of mysteries, but by the end it all comes together and you see the picture. There seems to be a lot more magic involved in this. It is really neat how Hyrule and the Hero of Time (from the Ocarina of Time) where an ancient legend that Link re-discovers, and then must seal away. I really liked the fact that there were lots of charactors involved. In the other games Link was the guy that did EVERYTHING! But in the Wind Waker there is Medli, who ends up being a sage. There is Makar, who is also a sage. There is Valoo and the Rito tribe, who rescue you from Gannon in the Forsaken fortress. This game was like a really good book to me. You clearly understand what is going on at ever point in the game, and you want to keep playing to see what happens next. I like it how Gannon talks to Link in the game. How he tells him about the master sword, it seems that he is trying to scare Link away, but Link, having the triforce of courage, never gives up and eventually defetes Gannon. Overall this is a great game. Best one yet!

It is a very cool game! Not to hard and the graphics are amazing! Not realistic but not fake either. I got this game a while ago and never play my other games because I love this one so much!

Classic Zelda feel, a tad bit repetitive

Back in E3 (2001 maybe?) Nintendo showed off a technical demo for the GameCube, and one of the scenes they used was a scene of a realistic Link dueling with Ganondorf. People were ecstatic, plain and simple. So when Nintendo, with what seemed like a last minute change, dumped the realistic look to the latest installment of the Zelda series to a Cell-Shaded theme, people weren't too pleased. Most responses were mainly negative, due to the fact that the Zelda they were waiting for seemed to have been snatched away.

But rest assure, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a true Zelda classic.

The majority of the negative feedback received by this game was focused on the graphics. Judging by the reviews posted by my peers on this site, people just don't seem to understand that photorealistic graphics are not necessarily "good" graphics. To defend Nintendo with their decision once again, they decided to go for the cell-shaded look to add a layer of emotion not previously possible from any other graphical style. Yes, Link does indeed look like a Powerpuff girl, but deep down, you feel connected to the characters, rather than just looking at static, yet realistic, NPCs. Not until Twilight Princess will Nintendo (or anyone for that matter) be able to pull off the level of depth each character possesses visually than the way Wind Waker did.

I am not going to say that this game is completely flawless. I to was very irritated with the constant sailing from island to island. Also, the game was a bit easy when compared to Ocarina of Time, but felt like every other Zelda game: Top notch.

In terms of the control scheme, it is the exact same thing as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. If you know what I am talking about, you will be pleasently surprised.

I won't really go into much depth because it seems the people who rated the game highly did a good job at describing the positive and negative aspects. As for those who rated it very lowly, you seem to be missing the point entirely. Photo realistic graphics do not always equal good graphics. There is a fine line there that some cannot see.

PS: If you are going to write a review, you will be taken more seriously if you use proper punctuation, capitization, and just write a better review than "OMG GRAFIX SUXXX I DO NOT WANT TO REED!!!!!!!11!! I WANT TO KILL STUFF!!!111one!!!" You just sound like a total idiot.

I Agree...This Game Rocked

Despite the "controversy", it is apparent that a majority of the people who actually played this game actually loved it as much as I did. The few that didn't, really had no valid argument and if they did I couldn't understand what they were trying to say. It's just as well; these kids should learn to write first before spending time on video games.

The graphics are not a problem at all; I actually thought they were beautiful and even if they were bad, game play alone was worth about 5 stars so it should offset any poor judgment. The game play was completely intuitive and was what I would expect from this franchise.

I loved Ocarina of Time and I believe that this version is just as good if not better. My only complaint would be that there were only 5 real dungeons. There were, however, plenty of other things to keep me busy for a whole week (I'm between jobs, so I had plenty of time).

So this is definitely worth the mullah, it's the best thing to come out on the GameCube yet. It also has my vote for game of the year...so far.

A new age, a new evil, a new hero.

First off I need to get this out of my mind. The graphics in this game are excellent! I look at graphics as polygon counts to see if something that is round looks round. Does the Master Sword look straight and the jewel in it look round? These details are shown at the finest in these graphics and the graphics push the Gamecube's power to it's fullest.
That aside the gameplay itself is much like Ocarina, except better. Much much better. How do I know? I own and I have beaten the game! Just try to debate this with me! The dungeons puzzles are pretty easy but the enimies in them can be diffcult, especially floormasters (yes they are back) and Darknights (from the early days of Zelda). One comment on the final battle: Nintendo has now set an expectation for Zelda Battles. Final Battles must be like this. When you fight your final foe, trust me, you will like this battle.
The storyline captivates you and from the get-go, it's hook, line and sinker and that is a very good thing. I usually try to complete a game before finishing it but the storyline just made me skip getting everything and get on with it!
Overall, this is the must get Zelda game. It takes elements from all Zelda games from enimies to puzzles to quests. SPOILER! A move not done since the first Zelda game ever, you now get to find the eight shards of the Triforce of Courage END SPOILER! This is the reason to own a Gamecube, if you don't own one already.

Final Verdict: Perfect, Flawless, 20/10

The Best Story Yet

This installment in the Zelda series lives up to its name. It has all the elements that Zelda players love, such as a large and interesting world, great puzzles, suspense, and the BEST STORY associated with a Zelda game yet. Just the premise is great, but even so, the plot twists will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. I know I wasn't expecting all of it.

The only problem people have noted about the game is the graphics. The cell shading makes the game look like a cartoon, and some people have thought that this is untrue to the essence of Zelda. But, for another example of the same phenomena, just look at SNES Zelda: A Link to the Past, which is similarly cartoon-like, given its 2D format.

I am confident that even the greatest skeptics will change their mind about the graphics once they play the game. The detail that has been given to the world is astounding. The arrows that bounce unintended targets, the enemies that can injure one another accidentally, the ocean swells, all of these things make for the most realistic and engaging Zelda World yet.

My only personal sadness with the game was that it was too short. It took only 6 (arguably) dungeons to finish the game. The game took me about one half the time Zelda: Ocarina of Time took me. On the brighter side, the game is worth every moment of your time regardless of that fact, and, though I have heard no rumor of the sort, the conclusion of the game leaves things wide open for a sequel. I will anxiously await word on such a game.

No better word could possibly describe this game. I was one of the ones who whined about the game's new appearance, but I couldn't have been more wrong, the game's graphics are perfect for the game; PERFECT. The gameplay is simple and addicting, like most other Zelda games, the dungeons aren't annoying nor obnoxious, there are no glitches. The story fits well with Ocarina, without recycling the plot at all. The map is bigger than anything ever seen in a zelda game before; a huge ocean with over 49,000 square "units" devided between 49 territories, each with an island of its own. I would reccomend this game to any Zelda fan, and basically anyone looking for a fun, light-hearted game.
