No Where Near As Good...

I loved Final Fantasy Tactics on the Playstation very much... I still play it every once in awhile. I bought this game in the hopes that it would be very similar to FFT, but it is a bit different, and not in a good way.

To start, the whole "learning of new abilities" is really annoying compared to FFT. You don't get points to "buy" abilities, you have to equip certain items to learn them. Like to learn Fire as a wizard, you have to equip a certain weapon. It gets confusing after awhile when you can't remember who learned what and which items you need to keep because someone still needs to learn that ability.

Second is they added cards to the battles. You are restricted from using certain abilities or weapons by "law cards". Though your characters can't actually die during these battles (they just pass out with the little stars circling their heads), if you forget to check the laws during battle and use something illegal, you might just have one of your best fighters going to prison for a little while.

Other than that, it is pretty similar to the old FFT. Unfortunately, the camera angles are sometimes frustrating, but given it's a Gameboy game it's understandable. The storyline is interesting, and the battles will entertain you for quite sometime. If you are a fan of other Final Fantasy games, or just want something FFT-like for your Gameboy Advance, then you might like this one.

The Black Sheep of the Final Fantasy Family

The game starts in the city of Ivalice, a young boy and his friends read a magic book that grants them their wish, which is to have adventure, and have the world like the "Final Fantasy game." After your character awakes in this new land he quickly joins a clan, and starts to do missions for them, and the while attempting to return to Earth, while being impedided by the queen, her evil son, and their judges.

Game play and style are similar to the original Final Fantasy Tactic, with some key (and annoying) differences, first their are no longer male and female, but rather five different races, each of which learns unique jobs. Skills for those jobs must be learned from weapons and items, like in Final Fantasy 9. Battles are played the same as in the orginal, turn-based on a square battle board. But, the biggest difference is the addition of the Judges and laws, in every battle there are laws that must be followed, ex. fire will get you fined and ice will get you a bonus point, some are simple enough to avoid doing, while other laws force you to concentrant on the battle, and as anyone who has played a final fantasy game will tell you it is very difficult to continouly watch the screen. If you break the law too many times you will be sent to prison, where you will have to pay a fine, or serve a set sentence.

The laws add a little more stratagy to the game, and the enemey is also punished for breaking the law (however, the computer rarely forgets what the laws are). In the end it is the law card system and child-like story line that makes this game fail to live up to the original.

If your looking for a good RPG, play Final Fantasy Tactics on playstation. If Game Boy had taken the orignal and not changed a thing and just moved it to Game Boy it would have been about six times better than this game.

That is not to say this isn't a good game, it is a decent RPG, but has no replay value, and is way too slow (If you continuosly push the A button at the begining it still takes over an hour before you play a real battle and can save). This could have been a great game, if it was a true sequel, but since its not, Pass This One Up.

People are a bit to Negative.

Many of you people are very negative about this game, I know it's your opinion and you will stick to it.

1. The battles do not take to long, its a matter of how good your clan is (well maybe its because i have an assassin and a kick-ass ninja, and My characters are all well rounded =) )
2. ENEMIES DO GET CARDS, BUT, enemy bosses with blue ribbons on their portrait cannot get sent to jail, because they want you to defeat the boss, oooohh<_<
3. Fight and Color magic being outlawed at the same time?? Wow, thats hard thats why you have OTHER clan members with techniques and skills and other things than color magic.
4. If your crappy characters are weak, what you do is make them face clans, clans are oriented around the average level that you are, so you can face them, and gain exp. and loot ( that was just a helpful hint=) )
5. I'm gonna have to agree with this: the battle system does get old, thats when I just do dispatch missions and play Mario, the most stoned game ever.

Furthurmore, I know that I probably won't change your opinion, BUT, might help you with beating battles with cheap-ass laws, or for-some-odd-reason-this-boss-is-gay-and-strong characters. OR, buy the FFTA strategy guide!

Final Fantasy Tactics is EXTREMELY boring!

I had purchased this game only because I had remembered playing a Final Fantasy game on the Playstation years ago. I had never caught the name of the Playstaion game, so I had immeadiatley assumed that this was the one. I had played this game for six days and completed it. Its really boring, but I guess its something to do when you don't have anything else to play with.

Well i havent played the game yet, but really planning to buy it. I dont usually read reviews on here, but ive got to say that some of these people didnt even know what the game was about.. i mean if you have ever visited IGN, its a very good site about upcoming games and reviews for released games. Since this game started development, it was said that it was a STRATEGY GAME NOT AN RPG. So everryone needs to write a review about the game itself and not the game being an rpg or not......

....Different

First thing: If you are a diehard fan of the PSX version, do not play this game expecting it do be the same. It is a very different, and in my opinion, annoying at times.

The main character is a very young child, which goes along with the new trend of games (younger and younger). The plot is shallow and easy to follow [I am halfway through the game]. There are many more job classes, however, most have the same abilities of each other, just with different names. Skills are learned like in FF9; through equiped items. The game is far too easy for any skilled player. It allows 6 team members in a battle, but the battles can be won with only 2 [without building levels in random battles]. The only difficulty comes from 'Laws' governing your battles. Because if you dont pay attention, your players can get arrested. The 'Laws' are an original idea, however, and help make the game interesting.

Eventually, certain races can summon special monsters, which can kill bosses instantly. No effort, no fun.

My main complaint is the characters. There is no way to make them original. You CANNOT name them. Certain claases are only available to certain races. Humans' genders change with job changes [Karl,my Fighter, switches to paladin. His face changes to a female look with long hair, makeup, and earrings. Same with Illusionist and white mage]. Also since certain jobs are for certain races, everyone learns everything quickly and they all become too similar. There are also just a handfull of secret players.

I do like some things, though. The map placement is cool, and I like the Blue and Red mages. The graphics rock, too. Play control is excellent, and you can take back all of your moves. 'Life' is 100% always, and 'Item' is automatic.

OVERALL, It's Fianl Fantasy 9 set to Final Fantasy Tactics. It's geared for players less than 15 years of age that get confused easily. I dont know why its still addictive to me.

Rocks!!...but gets frustrating sometimes.

I love this game!!!! The best part is the many job choices. The only problems are the daily law changes. If you don't check them, you could be in serious trouble! The other problem is the totema. Sometimes it takes 5 tries to beat them. It took me forever to beat Mateus. Other than that, the game is perfect!

COMPLETELY STUPID
