Hands down, best fighting game ever

Hands-down, this is the best fighting game that I have ever played. The fighting system is deep and complex, but doesn't have the huge learning curve that Tekken does. I have heard people call battles played by expert players to be like a dance, with blocking, parrying, dodging, and a variety of attacks used to keep your opponent guessing. A good selection of characters are available, though some are just mirrors of other characters with a few different moves. There is also a practice mode that helps you to learn button combinations for the 50 moves for each character(pretty standard nowadays, but Soul Calibur was one of the first to do this to my knowledge). The soundtrack is excellent, the gameplay is excellent, and it's just an overall awesome game. Back before the ps2/gamecube/xbox came out, this was the REASON you bought a dreamcast. If you dont own those 3 systems and can't get Soul Calibur 2, get the original. It's very much worth it.

I am a huge fighting game fan, but I've never liked the button mashing variety of fighting games.
Until now. Soul Calibur is a fun game that keeps me coming back for more. From powerful brutes like nightmare and asteroth to fast fighters like Sophitia and taki to everyone else in between, this game is one of my favorites.
It's simple enough to pick up for anyone. 1 button for horizantal strikes, 1 for vertical strikes, 1 for kicks and 1 for blocking. But the strength likes in it's combo system. Even a newbie can get some combos by mashing buttons, but someone who knows what thier doing can wipe the floor with all challengers.
In short, Best fighting game ever.
Still the best fighting game.

Since it's release in 1999, Soul Calibur still remains the best of the fighting game genre. It is one of those games that is easy to pick up and takes forever to master. The fluidity of the movements and the multitude of character it is hard pressed for everyone not to find there favorite fighter. If you still have a Dreamcast you must have this game. If you don't have a dreamcast it is wourth finding a used one just to play this game. Also, Soul Calibur 2 is set to be released this year 2003. I have high hopes.

When I went out and bought a Dreamcast, it was because of this game and its already strong grip on me. I had played it four times before. Its that strong.
The accurate portrayal of fighting styles with swords, staffs, and other assorted weapons makes the fighting on screen somthing of legend. Nothing is cooler than to pull off a Soul Caliber combo. Each fighter is vastly different from each other (except of course the charactors that are the same basically...yah). And learning everything the fighter of choice has to offer is a fun experience in and of itself. Any other fighting game I played I learned only enough to win against someone of fair skill. Soul Caliber made me want to be the best. Buy it and experience it. Or wait, don't buy a Dreamcast, and get Soul Caliber 2 when it comes out two years from now. If you can wait that long.
A Classic Fighting Game.

Wow, what can I say. This game is virtally perfect in every category (Graphics, sound, gameplay, value, fighters, options etc.) An absolutely exciting game to play and it never loses appeal. I played this when it first came out back in late 1998 or early 1999 at the arcade and I was spellbound. Jawdropping lighting effects, especially, up to 5 characters that can be unlocked, and the combos possible are extensive. I can't wait to get my Dreamcast, two controllers, and 7 awesome games for just over 100 bucks from my friend because I'll be playing this classic for a long time. A must-have for all Sega Dreamcast owners. (Also check out Mortal Kombat Gold, Shenmue, Resident Evil:Code Veronica and Dead Or Alive 2 if you're a new Dreamcast owner)

What more can you ask for, stunning graphics, incredible attention, to detail, and fun at the same time. Any hardcore gamer will immediately notice that all the joints in Soul Calibur are round and smooth. That kind of detail has never been done in a fighting game outside CG cinema sequences. Have you ever seen their mouths move when they speak? Increbible attention to the most miniscule of details. Amazing. Namco has done it again.
This is not good, its the Best.

After reading a reveiw from dc magazine and reading of the praise this game has recieved I decided to make this my 9.9.99 debute game of choice.I am not much for fighters but the ones I have played cant quite live up to Soul Calibur. My first sight on the game was the smooth intro and I said to myself "Man that looks good" it was amazing! The gameplay was superb and the movements of the characters were smooth and unhinderd. The weapon fighting system is great with many many moves and combos. It takes some time to make a winning strategy for this game but when you learn to stop smashing buttons and you actually know what your doing it pays off. The game has many modes and tons of secrets that will keep you going for awhile.Only hinder of the game is that it takes allot of work to get the secret modes. Excellent!
All other video games will be judged against this one

Soul Calibur is the perfect videogame. Period. And no, it's not just "a fighting game" any more than a Robin Hood movie is merely about swordfighting. It's a lankmark in the entertainment industry as a whole, and I'm not the only person saying it. The characters look perfect, the fighting system is balanced, and very rarely will you complain that you input a move that either missed or was wrong. The gameplay is as perfect as the looks. Beautiful orchestral score too. Bottom line, folks: if this game fails to impress you, then videogames in general don't.
This is a first class game buy it buy the console and enjoy

Soul Calibur is the best game I have seen on the dreamcast. The graghics and 3D effects are the best I have seen. The quest mode is very good and allows you to gain new characters and stages. Namco has out done their self with this title.
