I succumbed to the craziness surrounding the Wii Fit, and I really like it. I am already in pretty decent shape, but I have always been the type of person who likes to do aerobic exercise, but tend to leave off the strength and stretching exercises. Wii fit has got me doing strength exercises regularly, that leave me pleasantly sore. I also really enjoy the yoga poses. The balance games are fun, and very challenging! It is very easy to rack up 30 minutes or more on this without noticing. Since I am from MN, I expect that this will come in even more handy during the winter, when I really don't want to leave the house to exercise, and have usually relied on fitness DVDs. I imagine that it would combine well with DDR for the Wii and Wii Sports to give me a good aerobic workout. I am not a fan of the weird step exercise on the Wii fit, even though I am pretty good at DDR, I find it impossible to stay on the beat with the elevator music. I LOVE the hula hooping, though! It's great. I really think it's worth the money. It also has my husband working out more. I think even people with a moderate fitness level, like us, can really have a lot of fun with this and be challenged. It's also nice to keep track of your BMI, just so you're not tempted to get lazy and have it go up!

My husband surprised me by bringing home a Wii Fit yesterday. This is a guy who has never wanted to work out with me, yet we took turns last night trying our skills a balancing, dodging soccer balls and even Yoga poses. I had so much fun that I woke up this morning at 5AM to play again before getting ready for work. It actually said to me this morning, "my you're up early."
If that's not motivation, I don't know what is. We live in South Louisiana where the heat index yesterday was 103 with humidity that rivals that of the rainforest. It's not conducive to outdoor workouts what-so-ever. For less than the cost of a month of gym membership for both of us, we've got a great tool that actually makes getting some exercise fun in the indoor comfort of one's private living room (also eliminates those embarassing Yoga gafs people fear).
It's not easy, but the challenge is the fun part and opening up a little friendly competition between spouses is a great way to stay motivated and focused on a weightloss goal.
Also, FYI, the pound limit for the US version is 330 lbs. In case the weight limits had folks staying away, apparently Nintendo knows that Americans are a bunch of fatties comparied to other countries.
It's the best Wii toy we've had yet.
Fun, but you're better off with a personal trainer...

My parents recently purchased one of these & I tried it out over a three-day weekend. I'm already in fairly good shape, so most of the exercises weren't particularly challenging. The balance games are where the Wii Fit stands out. They're fun & they make you much more aware of your balance. Yoga is good for this as well. I wasn't impressed by the strength training exercises. First of all, you can't use weights. Also, the nature of the board only allows for certain kinds of exercises. So you're severely limited in which muscles you can work, etc. My mother has torn her ACL in both knees and has had multiple knee surgeries, so she has to avoid a lot of the exercises on here. There are ways she could work her legs without injuring her knees, but they can't be found on the Fit.
Having you unlock new activities by spending more time exercising is a nice way of motivating you. But more could have been done with the programming, especially with strength training. For example, you don't want to work the same muscle groups every day because those muscles will need to rest. It would have been simple to set up programs where you work certain muscles on alternating days. Also, it would have been nice to set up programs where you could warm up, do some aerobic exercise, then cool down.
Another issue I had was with the BMI calculator. Naturally, it can't take into account certain body types. A muscular male friend who used the Fit was classified as obese because he's relatively short compared to his weight. My sister is also short & muscular & was judged as being on the high end of normal, almost obese. I'm somewhat muscular with a fair amount of body fat on a petite frame and was classified as underweight. I have a pretty fast metabolism & I'd probably have to become a protein-junkie bodybuilder to gain the muscle mass that would put me in the Fit's normal range. BMI estimators in general can paint a very inaccurate picture. If you have no muscle mass whatsoever, the Fit's BMI calculator might work for you. Otherwise, get a professional to figure out your BMI & listen to their opinion on your fitness goals.
That said, if you never work out because you can't be motivated or can't find the time, you could definitely benefit from purchasing one of these. I use it mostly to improve my balance & occasionally my aerobic fitness or just for fun (I love the hula hoop game). Many people seem to use this for yoga, but I think they'd be better off with a video.

I just got the Wii Fit last week; in 7 days, I have lost 6 pounds so far! The game is so motivational; my kids (10 and 17) love it, too, and have been using it daily as well, challenging themselves to beat me. So far, I have obtained results far beyond my expectations, and would highly recommend it to other middle-aged folks like myself, who want to lose weight and feel better all around!

Fun but lacking some essentials. I wish one could set up a routine instead of having to go back to the menu after each exercise. Also the push up exercise hurts your hands (the board is not designed for hands). Also it lacks a choice of body build, according to the game I am severely obese (I have 8% body fat).
Great for the ENTIRE family!

I purchased the Wii Fit the day it came out. Our only problem is taking turns. My children love it so much that they hate to wait for their turn. I use it as well. We even have my 73 year-old mother using it. The games are fun and the "unlocking" of additional games and activities makes you feel like you have won a prize. It is easy to use and very encouraging. My middle daughter was a little upset about her BMI rating but we talked about how BMI fluctuates and that is just a measurement. So, as long as you do it with your kids I think that it is great for them too.
Love Wii Fit--but give yourself plenty of time to work out

I love this product--I feel like it's helping me do the yoga postures correctly (even a yoga teacher couldn't help correct my balance the way the balance board does). The strength training really works--my quads were sore for days following my first workout. And the balance games are a lot of fun. My only issues with this are the gazillion menus you have to get through for each workout--to get 30 minutes of workout time it will actually take you about an hour! I wish there was a user setting to bypass all the menu tips and warnings to make your workouts go faster. Also, it would be nice to be able to have a competition with others in your family without having to log in and out of your user info (again, a million menus to get through to change from one user to another). You can use the trial feature to do this but then you don't get "credit" for it as a user. Oh, I also really liked the jogging feature--I'm trying to figure out how to use this exercise with my treadmill (which should work since it doesn't actually use the balance board but you put the wiimote in your pocket or carry it) since my treadmill is in the same room as our wii. Overall, this is a lot of fun and the tracking feature of your BMI/weight can definitely be motivating.
I just have to wonder about the credibility

Wii Fit was a birthday present. It weighed and measured me, told me my physical age after testing was 74. In 3 days I was 51. While this is great I do question my rapid weight loss on the Wii Fit. I attend Weight Watchers, have always eaten healthy but my metabolic rate leaves something to be desired...like one that burns! According to Wii, I am unbalanced in the balance games but am stellar in my balance when doing the Yoga. Pretty clumsy dancing because going off and on the board is difficult for whatever age I really am (mid 60's is a valid guess). So I need to know is this my true weight? Is Wii smarter than the doc's scale, the Weight Watcher Leader's scale and even my scale. I sure would like to believe it is. My posture in 3 days has really improved. The arthritic spine is not as painful and I START EVERY DAY WITH Wii and an enormous smile, often giggling as I slalom down the slopes, unbalanced, ride in a bubble down the river, dodging the sides - each time, improving. Wii stays here-the hardest part is for me to push all the right buttons on the TV when setting it up! THANK YOU Wii for helping me.

The Wii Fit is technically not a game. There are game like aspects such as the points system, unlocking new excercises etc. At it's heart it is a workout tool just like a barbell, a jump rope or an exercise bike albeit one operated from a game console.
I am pretty satisfied with the Wii Fit. It allows me to get a light workout during the days when it is too inconvenient for me to hit the gym. Like going to the gym, you get what you put into it. If you don't focus on getting the forms right, you're not going to get any benefit out of it.
There are a few things that can be improved upon:
1.You can't program a series of exercises that you can go through one right after another like a circuit.
2.It gets pretty annoying having to click through a lot of menus to get to the next exercise.
3.Too talkative. I don't need all the motivational stuff. All I need is how many reps I have to do, count them down, tell me my score, next exercise.
4.The default option to click through should have been Quit instead of Retry after each exercise.
It would be nice if there was a downloadable update that would plug up some of the shortcomings of the software.
That being said, this is a great device to keep the workout going all throughout the week. There is no replacement for going to the gym but for those days when it's inconvenient to do so, you have a machine at home that can be a backup. Despite a few shortcomings, I still recommend the Wii Fit.

Wii Fit is so much fun and you're gonna love it a lot, like buying a new car or donating your blood to charity--it will make you feel good every day and in almost every way.
I've been playing it nonstop since I bought it and I have found out some super awesome cheat codes and ways to beat the game!!!
1) When you're doing the running game, the Wii totally doesn't know whether you're actually running or not, so if you shake the controller up and down, it thinks you're doing really well. You won't have to run even a little bit! Me, one point. Wii, zero!
2) For the hula hoop challenge, it wants you to swing your hips a lot as it calculates spins and calories being burned. But if you hold down the A button while you do it, it thinks you're working off many more calories than you are!
3) On any of the balance tests, I recommend getting a book or a large turtle and put it on the Wii board. It will cheat the system into thinking you have perfect balance. Ditto for the Yoga games. Again, book or turtle or (if you prefer) turtle on book.
4) When you're doing the Jacknife ab crunches, the Wii is only measuring when your feet hit the board--not actually anything to do with the crunches. So just sit on the floor and tap the board with both hands every time it thinks you're coming down from the crunch, and you can definitely cheat that game. I usually take a snack break while I do this one.
5) Finally, if you want to get a better BMI and weight reading for the Body Test (and therefore lower your Wii Fit Age), I suggest moving a few couches or chairs on either side of you, support your body with your arms on those couches(chairs) and then just lower yourself slightly onto the board. That way, it's not gonna read your full body weight, but instead you can get it at exactly what you want it to be.
I'm guessing the Nintendo people don't want me revealing these cheats, but these loopholes are indeed there, and that's not my fault, and all I'm doing is sharing them with you so you can do better at the game!
