Having played Neverwinter Nights, I have been impatiently waiting for this sequel. The game is quite enjoyable and immersive. This is no fast-paced superficial hack and slash but a deeper role-playing experience. The editor will make the replay value of this game phenomenal.
Steep system requirements for a RPG

Overall the game is good, but I'm ticked at the slow framerates. The graphics are much better than NWN1, but not that much better. I have a AMD64-fx57 and 2 nvidia 7800gtx's sli'd. this game should run as smooth as silk at 1600x1200. I turned down all the advanced graphics and still get lousy framerates. Oblivion runs absolutely fine and the graphics are much better. I have the latest drivers etc., but i am forced to play it at 1024x768 in order to get decent framerates. It is definitely an engine problem that should have been revealed in playtests and addressed by the developers before release.
Steep System Requirements - But Fun

You get very little for what you need, a fast CPU, 256MB graphics card and a min of 1GB ram. It makes no sense, especially seeing as though this is the type of game that appeals to people with older systems. Yes, if you turn off all the shadows, water effects, and limit the number of lighting sources, you can run the game with all the other settings up and get a decent framerate of about 20 FPS outdoors. But given that the game looks 2-4 years old, and my less powerful Xbox 360 is running the Unreal 3.0 engine with a rock solid 30 FPS and every graphical effect you can think of in Gears of War, its NO SENSE. Its just one of those head scratchers.
The game looks nice, it looks good, but not great or amazing.
The gameplay is medium linear and the level design is uninspired.
The story is excellent and the voice acting is very good.
These elements make the game playable and will keep you involved.
I haven't had any glitches, only a couple rare crashes, 2 in 20 hours of play - nothing major.
If you love D&D, its hard to hate this game despite the flaws.
If you don't know or love D&D, I'd go for Oblivion.
Doesn't work on newer processors

This game is really slow on my AMD system. I have an ASUS m2n board running a dual core Brisbane at 2.2 ghz on XP 32 bit, 2 gig of Ram and an onboard nvidia 6150 graphics card. At first I thought it was the onboard graphics until I loaded up Jade Empire, Fully cranked, and played that with nary a hitch. I updated all my drivers, and the game still ran slow.
I am not really sure what is going on here. It's a shame, because this is a favorite game of mine :(
Not as bad as many might suggest, but not Baldur's Gate

Although NWN 2 suffers from some of the more common issues of RPG's it is very enjoyable. The graphics are excellent, far beyond NWN 1 (full disclosure, I recently upgraded my machine). The developers also followed D&D 3.5 rules, meaning combat is interesting, and there are many choices for character development.
My single biggest complaint is the linearity of the game. A -> B -> C. No plot deviations, no alignment or class based quests make replay boring. I hope the developer tool will make this game live on though.
I'm not sure what to make of the bad reviews

I'll admit I was leary of picking this one up after I read the user reviews and system requirements which I meet by the skin of my teeth since I have a 3yr old low budget CAD box. 6600 video card 2.8 processor 1 gig of ram yada yada... It works GREAT! I don't understand why so many ppl are having problems. Maybe I just got it the day the patch came out or something.
Gameplay is good (as far as PC RPG's go not compared to PnP fo course) Character interaction and that stuff gets a 5 star rating from me for a PC RPG although I would have liked the "D&D Hardcore rules" difficulty level to include the pain in the rear of getting a character raised when killed instead of the cheassy MMO style you get back up at the end of the fight with no penelty. If i want to make life difficult for myself that should be my porogative, that way you can make me AND the MMOers happy, since they're probobly trying to market to them too.
Level of Detail... This thing looks like it's using the doom3 engine! how in the world is that not an improvment?!
The interface does need some customizability though, assigning your own hot keys and such. Although it seems a lot of the compaints about the interface are more because a lot of peeps havnt read the manual to know what the hot keys are instead of pointing and clicking at everything and a few other otions.
The Camera seems funny to me, I'm not sure why. It's certainly more than usable though Not nearly as bad as some of the complaints I've read. I just cant seem to get the right sensitivity for moving it around that I really like since it seems different situations require different speeds.
I havnt tried multiplayer or the toolset yet. But if the compaints about it I've read so far hold true they'll probobly work fine.
Not an improvement over NWN, not as fun as BG

I feel like this game reached its height of fun with Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. Since then its gone down hill. At least you can play with more chars in your group in NWN2 and have more control over them than NWN. However, even though NWN2 has taken some power away from the fighter types compared to NWN (no more devastating critical), it still seems like magic is MUCH less important in these games than in BG. Also, to me a lot of the fun comes from controlling the leveling of several different kinds of characters, but there are many limits on this in NWN2 (limited number of custom characters, few choices on classes to level chars to, etc.). If you haven't played BG, get that at a bargain price instead.
Still in the beta phase

This game had potential, but it needed to be properly beta tested for another few months. The game would get 3 stars overall if I didn't have to reinstall it every few days because its 2-D textures are missing and if I didn't have to spend hours browsing self help forumns to get the framerate decent. I have a nVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX (256 mb card), 2 gigs of kingston memory and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 4800+ processor. I should not be having any problems running this game, but I had plenty. The story line is interesting so far. I kind of wish they wouldn't have given me a dumb halfling bard as an npc, especially when they could have given me a cleric. And let me tell you, he is as obnoxious as he sounds, and useless. You get a wizard, sorcerer and thief, and all three are much cooler than the obnoxious little halfling. And having a magic user and a thief with you completely eliminates the need for him. Anyhow, the henchman AI is horrible, there is an unofficial mod that is supposed to help with this, but I haven't tried it yet. You are given some choices to turn certain behaviors on and off, such as their usage of items, but there is no button for "Hey fool! Don't cast a fireball at the party's feet!". Or a button for "Druid please, I know you aren't a cleric but please use your healing spells, two of my party members ran off to aggro the rest of the dungeon and have left me for dead.". But the brief periods where my henchmen don't do anything dumb and when the framerate dosn't slow down to 20, the game is fun. Get this game used, borrow it from a friend, or wait and see if they drop the price. Atari owes me an apology though. "No, Atari, we don't want a female drow cleric, we would rather have a short, stupid, dumpy, useless, obnoxious little halfling! Duh!".
Hours of fun...

Fun game, even for someone who's not into Dungeons and Dragons. Other then some problems with AI, the game is great. Fun adventures, interesting story, and beautiful graphics.

This game is beautiful. The intro part of the game is outstanding, it teaches you all the basics of the game, and draws you into the story. It is fun, fast-paced and a feast for the senses. I am completely satisfied so far.
Users of the previous Aurora toolset will find themselves right at home in the new toolset. It is intuitive, easy to use and leverages much of the old toolset's functionality. I've only worked with it a little bit, but I've been impressed so far. No steep learning curve plus added features and functionality.
The only hangup I have at all is the limited number of creatures in the toolset, but after NWN, SOU, HOtU and 2 CEP's I guess I'm pretty spoiled. So I will shut up.
This is truly a great leap forward for the Neverwinter Nights franchise and RPG's in general.
