I usually DO NOT take the advice of others when it comes to purchasing games because I'm the one who's playing it and everyone gets a different expierence out of any game, whether it be a LOW BUDGET title, or a so-called "BLOCKBUSTER" hit. I've read several reviews on this title and i have to say that this is one of the only times where i can sense that there is some real truth in the complaints about this game. Why would i come to such a conclusion when i don't even own the game??? Well, the reason is a lot easier to understand than you think. First of all I'd like to say that i own "NWN-Gold" and the very last expansion pak. I enjoyed the series. But after reading on several websites and comparing and sorting out the 'HONEST' reviews from garbage-(Those who 'Praised the game simply to be included in the ME TOO crowd'), i noticed a very disturbing trend that has been a plague on the entire gaming market for some time now. STAGNATION!! As long as gamers(including myself) keep dishing out the BIG$$$$ for so called "GRAPHIC ADVANCEMENTS",the big companies will continue to throw as much unfinished,1/4 tested, resource killing tripe @ us because they KNOW that no matter what..if there is a major title on the box..people will buy it.These guys are smart because they know that the average gamer(today's modern gamer) does not want a story. They also know that most(not all)modern gamers are easily distacted and get extremely GIDDIE over *SHINEY THINGS*,They figure we all just want to be lead by the nose so we can get from point-A to point-B...finish the game..and rush to get online so they can give our opinion of the product. It's called-"POWER SELLING" and it really is an insult to those who are loyal to a certain franchise or genre and end up with the short end of the stick because JOHNNY NEXT DOOR JUST GOT HIS FIRST HIGH-END FROM HIS PARENTS AND HAS SOME HOW PLAYED THE GAME (with few or no bugs : as he'll soon write in his next Amazon review)and has now become the voice of reason. OK...(SURE,I'LL BUY THAT)...and don't even get me started on the way consumers are getting YANKED on the cost of upgrades and in some instances, purchasing a new PC in anticipation of thier favorite NEW game releases. So am i bitter??? NO..just a realist and an observer of the truth. So to the many honest reviews that were written on this site about this game-(The bad reviews were the only honest ones),my hat goes off to you and thanks for the warning..I'll PASS on this one until a "GOLD" ,"PLATINUM" or any completely fixed version is released and only if it comes with a $12-$20 Price tag so that even if i find the storyline to be complete garbage..i can put it on the shelf beside (NWN-GOLD) and not feel so bad for wasting $50.

NWN1 is possibly one of the greatest games ever. Besides having a good solid design, the two expansion packs, years of bug fixes, numerous commercial modules, hundreds of excellent player created modules, a enormous amount of player created content, and some very well done persistent worlds, they decided to not include a large portion of the audience. Linux and Mac players have been left out this time around.
Since I'm not about to spend $150 on Windows XP, nor I am going to built another PC for only running NWN2, NWN2 gets a big fat zero in my book. I'll keep playing NWN1 for now.
Great game... if you have the PC power

The game is great as long as you have the necessary RAM and processor speed. Its a bit different from the 1st (all-time great game), and will take some getting used to, but as a DnD player, it's a great blend from the 3.5 rules and the PC version. The replay value is high and a ton of classes to choose from. I also like the amount of customization that goes into character creation, allowing you to create really unique characters. Would have been nice if they would have more voice sets than jusy using the 1st game's, but no worries. It had room to improve, but you really can't beat the 1st NWN.

Having seen my fair share of RPG games, I would not rate this game among the top games in this genre. It is definetely better than its predecessor and the Icewind Dale in both gameplay and story, however it still can not match the complex storyline of Baldur's Gate (not to spoil it here, but the story is very alike Baldur's Gate 2). Although there seems to be some technical problems, none bores the player to quit the game. And there are actually some advancements as the spells in this game is much much potent and you can actually work your way through the game with only one warrior in the party. This stacks well with the 3rd edition rules and gives a better feeling of classic dungeons 'n dragons.
As you may have noticed by now, I have compared this game with Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. That is because it would be real unjust to compare it with the likes of Oblivion or Diablo as there is little alike in these games beside the common background and items. This game is best suited for hardcore FRP players who likes to play games with little resting and minimum of powerful artifacts and try to stay alive by the little stock of healing magic/potions. If you want to play this game in such a way and maybe on a harder difficulty, the fun may become surprisingly high. Be aware though, that this game is by all means real hack'n slash and you should not await a real FRP experience (if you would like to solve puzzles, that is).

This was a fabulous game. I waited to play it until a significant number of the patches were out and I think that's why my experience with the game was considerably better than others.
I really enjoyed the storyline in this game. I thought it was engaging, deep, very well developed and told. I enjoyed watching my character go from barely taking on Lizardmen to fighting Dragons. I also felt like my involvement in the greater world at large was much better done than previous games. The NPC characters were considerably more interesting and I enjoyed having them in my party. I also liked that we could control 3 NPC's and for awhile even 4. Made it feel like a true adventuring party vs. NWN1.
Overall a great game that I would highly recommend to RPG fans.

I have no idea what this other guy is talking about; NWN 2 is amazing. It offers about 50 hours of gameplay (10x better than 1st NWN). The graphics aren't great, but they scenery/sound is absolutely amazing because unlike the 1st NWN which used tilesets, NWN 2 actually uses heightened textures. The story mode is amazing as well, with great sounding dialogue throughout. There were some bugs, but the patch fixes many of them. Also, it's great how you can obtain strongholds, train your army, and manage a small economy.
Love The Game

U will need a strong pc for this game coz sometimes it loads a huge map and the pc will start to lag id say a core2 duo with a 7900 or 7950 geforce should do the trick. But the game is good and its very exciting, the storyline is a bit crap but the game is fun. Its also fun to play with your friends but i dont like it when ur friend can skip the lines be4 u can read or understand. So i suggest playing the game solo first to know it better. I gave it 4 stars coz in the end u HAVE to use a sword, so if ur an archer u will have a bit of a drawback as u cant use swords properly, U can multi class but i dunno how good it will do you if u want the full potential of a ranger. But the game is very nice and im looking forward to playing the expansion
Great for DND and solo gamer fans!

I love this game because it is just like DND and is playable by just me. I am not an online gamer. I like that it gives you 'real' companions and has a decent storyline / theme. As the main character, I feel like I am in an interactive story where I can control my fate to some degree and I don't really know what to expect from the others I meet. I like the way I don't have to sweat the details, or I can sweat them as much as I prefer. It has a good variety that way. I also like when you combat, you don't have to be too involved (don't need a lot of hand/eye coordination), just click on the next enemy and let your character roll. The NPC's have interesting personalities and backgrounds, so the world is not too flat. I don't mind the 'extras' just wandering around in the screens... they don't bother me either way and are not pertinent to the action.
It took me a while to learn how to control the camera views (as others have complained about) but once you get the hang of it, it actually works pretty well. I have tried other games that actually make me nauseous but this one didn't. I use the mouse and the keyboard to control it. It also took me a few tries to learn how to use the items you get like potions that are used on yourself or a companion. Just save your game often and reload if something doesn't work, so you can try it again until you understand exactly what to do. The other issue with this game is it does need lots of video memory to work well. I first tried to load it on my old gaming laptop and it waited until I got it loaded and tried to run it to tell me that I didn't have enough video memory. Look at the specs before you buy it and make sure you have enough.
Overall, I give this game four stars because it is interesting, fun, dynamic, pretty close to DND in rules and theme, and for single gamers. I didn't give it the full five stars because of the camera control learning curve... it took me a while to get used to it, as well as learn how to use some of the items. Maybe the manual could have spelled it out better? I would buy all games like this one just because this style of game is one of two I prefer (being an old DND player from years ago.) So, if you just want a good DND game that offers a variety of choice and respectable depth, this one is excellent and higly recommended. I hope they put out some more like this soon.

I'm surprised by the really bad reviews. This game played fine on my computer with almost all the setting turned up completely. The graphics were awesome, the spells were awesome, the story had a lot of things going on in it making it awesome, companion development was awesome, and the toolset is awesome.
The bad things about this game is that the toolset when it autosaves gets completely messed up, so i'll have to look into that. The companion AI is horrific, which is pretty universal for all reviews, and the patch at the beginning is somewhat ridiculus. There was like 10 of them! It didn't take my computer very long to do them all, but it was kinda sad to think a game with that many patches still had companion AI problems. Oh well.
The finer points of the game that I thought was awesome was the new prestige classes were pretty sick, the crafting was fun, and the new feats were pretty awesome.
The finer points that i thought sucked was the fact that they took the shifter prestige class out, and they lowered the max lvl to 20! Man that pissed me off. When you beat the game its fun to go through and cheat, but only going to lvl 20 isn't as exciting as lvl 40 and owning everyone with the power from your pinky... anyway...
Well still awesome game, I have hours of fun on it and I can't wait for the expansion. And what the heck is up with the expansion costing more than the game! I've never seen that before... Anyway, Neverwinter nights has one of the most epic, creative, interesting, and enjoyable stories ever in my opinion. Great buy if you want a great game, but you probably need a great computer or you'll get the problems listed in other peoples reviews.

I have been enjoying this game a great deal. The reason? There is a strong focus on an immersive story, character development, interesting equipment, and intriguing adversaries, and the graphics ain't bad to boot. I think the reason that many people have been grumbling about this latest entry in the D&D computer games universe (besides the significant system requirements) is the proliferation of action oriented games for the Xbox and Playstation series that focus on graphics and extreme action. This game is more of a thinking person's game where strategy and tactics count more than reflexes and skill at pressing multiple buttons. A lot of the enjoyment comes from advanced planning, character development, thinking through a variety of options, item management, and resolving encounters without fighting (although there are plenty of rewarding opportunities to slug it out in the trenches or kill the enemy using stealth and precision). This is the closest I have been in a long while to the enjoyment of the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games.
