PRO'S: Hands down, it has to be the fact your character comes to posses an entire keep. Not only that, but you can spent vasts amount of money to improve upon it. I almost kinda wish they had put more special missions for your troops. Perhaps, in a future game, they can bring back treasure from the bandits/monsters/etc. There were some glitches I encountered, but nothing that can't be fixed in future updates.
The second would have to be the improvements to a characters animal companions. There is nothing worse than having a multiclassed character, and have an animal companion that is roughly half your level. At this point, they become nothing but cannon fodder. NWN2 fixed this by giving you a skill to rectify the problem. Now your pet/friend can keep traveling with you as a help, and not a hindrence.
The above paragraph also applies to spell levels with multiclassed characters. While I never saw it as much of a hindrence, NWN2 fixes this issue as well, adding a similar skill for spell levels.
Lastly, some of these fights are truly hard. Gone are the days of NWN, when you could Powerlevel through everything relatively unscathed. Three things pounded my hindquarters in NWN2: The red dragon (which I never defeated), the two black dragons, and the final fight.
CONS: I want to start off by saying that I have played through the game. I have a 9800 NVidia graphics card, and 6MB of RAM...and it still runs slow. I have to place most of my settings to low so massive fights run smoothly. I also agree with what most say about the camera angles. In a word? Dismal. Up close or far away, it slides through walls and NPC's, giving you a nice polygonic view of the inside of someones face. Also, if walls are high, you might as well set the camera directly above you. This posed the biggest problem in the final fight.
Next I wish to address the cutscenes. With as much graphic power this game seems to be pumping out, you'd think the programers could have done better than cardboard cutout scenes. It's the computer equivalant of a silent movie cuecard. NWN definitely has NWN2 beat on this one.
Also, I'm sad to see character portraits disappear. While it does appear that you can rectify this somehow (I assume through downloadable content), this shouldn't have to be the case. While the color/hair/face pallatte can produce an array of combinations, I miss the up close and personal touch.
Lastly, at least one of the new classes seems incredibly weak. Now perhaps I played my character wrong, but I found the Warlock to be disappointing and a one trick pony. I quickly became bored with the same abilities. This wouldn't be so bad if they made up for it with perhaps some fighting skills, but, alas, the Warlock is no better than than any other arcane caster in hand-to-hand. It was near impossible keeping her alive in the final battle.
Story: I have to say that the story really isn't all that much more impressive than the original NWN. As to be expected, you face characters that turn on you at a later date. Somehow, it just doesn't seem as devestating as when the paladin turns on you in NWN.
I will never listen to Amazon

I buyed this product before listening to the reviews and found myself STUNNED! It works perfectly and runs plenty fast on machine. Everytime you have different characters party you get some knew story lines. Plus it is far better than Neverwinter Nights 1 mainly because of the graphics rendering and how everything is in 3D. Personally I will never listen to these narrow minded fools.
Maybe instead of whinning about graphics you should buy either a new graphics card or go and download new drivers. Everyone knows this when you buy a new game you should always update the drivers.
I've found this to be fairly true with almost every product that I've bought some items that have only gotten a two star rating have actually been far better than the supposed 4 star ratings.
Fun, but it's too early to judge

Update: The below still applies, but having played more of the game at this point, I can say that I'm not disappointed by the single-player campaign. My only major gripe with the game is its enormous performance demand; I have a reasonable machine, well above the minimum system specs, and in some areas the game skips and crawls even at the lowest-quality, fastest performance settings. Most areas are not nearly so bad, however.
In terms of fun, the gameplay is a logical step up from NWN, but the interface is a little cumbersome. It's quite obvious that the designers were striving to borrow the best traits of both the original NWN and Baldur's Gate and combine them, and they don't always integrate perfectly. Changing the inventory to icons instead of proportionally-sized items is less fun, and the new quickbar system is less "quick" and more "confusing." However, some additions, like the Quickcast menu and the new targeting system, are great.
As for the campaign, the characters are fun and the plot is, if not a masterwork, at least interesting in content and epic in scale. I won't say any more; you'll have to discover it for yourself. As I mentioned before (below), the plot is really secondary to the engine and toolset.
...
If NWN2 lives up to the potential of its predecessor, it is far more important as an update to the toolset than as an official campaign. Certainly, the single-player game that shipped with NWN2 was a little flat and disappointing, a little too focused on the rules. And yes, it is a bit buggy.
However, few games outside the extremely popular first-person shooters like Half-Life have ever been as ALIVE as the first Neverwinter Nights. The regular updates from BioWare and, more importantly, the enormous number of excellent fan-created game modules made it the best game purchase I've ever made.
It remains to be seen whether NWN2 will live up to that standard. If it does, then I would say that the mediocrity of the official campaign is almost irrelevant next to the open-ended potential of the game system. If you're interested in this game, keep an eye on the online communities concerning it, and you'll soon know whether or not it's worth buying.

My wife and I have played the original so this seemed the next logical step. Updated graphic drivers, installed the game and d/l the latest patch. NWN2 runs great on both of our computers(AMD4400 dual core 7800gtx in SLI & AMD XP3000 6800xt). I have read negitive reviews from others about crashes, bugs, etc but have not had any problems. Looks great with easy to use interface that is improvement from original. I am learning the toolset via on-line tutorials and hope to create my own module to play soon. Steep learning curve for toolset but not any harder than the original.
Outstanding, its a step up from the original!

Either NWN or NWN2 I still rate both of them 5 stars. This game has more content than the original release of neverwinter nights. For now you can only reach level 20. But that was the same with the first game, until shadows and hordes expansions were released. This game definetely has more potential than the first game which is why I gave it a overall of 5 stars.
A bit of a let down

I have no idea why this game has the system requirements that it does. The graphic and special effects, while well put together, and not cutting edge. This game looks like an expansion to the original Neverwinter Nights more than a entirely new game. Personally if I pay a new game price I expect a new game in the box, or an extremely polished and improved continuous of the original. Looking at this game and the original side by side you would be hard pressed to explain why this needs the extra muscle it does.
Like many of the other reviewers I found the story for the campaign in NWN2 to be quite boring. So boring it was hard to even play through. The voice acting is okay as are the cut scenes but the story is very boring and cliche. Like the original the one thing NVW2 has going for it is the ability to download and play adventures created by other users. This is where this game shines, there is a wealth of custom content and adventures available on the internet for NWN2, and if you have invested in the game this is the best way to put it to use.
Out of the box NWN2 is an okay game, but there are better. With the wealth of custom mods on the internet for it though it is as good as the original to me and maybe a bit better. There is a good amount of potential in this game and luckily there are those devoting time and attention to bring it out. This keeps replay high and the game relatively fresh.
Very enjoyable game

I really like this game. Took some getting used to the controls, but after an hour or so of playing, I had no problems. Graphics are great. I had no problem jacking up all the settings to high (and I don't have a dual or quad core cpu and my video card is a 7900 GTO). I do however, run the game at only 1152 x 864 b/c the fonts get hard to read if I go to higher resolutions. Story lines are good, though the NPC story lines are not quite as interesting or as long as the original Neverwinter. I've had more than a few mornings where I regretted getting so engrossed in the game.
One complaint is that they changed the numbering of quick slots from the F keys, to 1 thru 0. I had a much easier time finding the F keys on your board, especially in an intense battle. They did improve the number of quick slots though, so now you can have 10 rows of them,(there is a little arrow to help you scroll thru all 10), which really helps the spell casters.

If you enjoy D&D based RPG's, you'll enjoy this. It may run a little choppy at times, but, it's nothing to be overly concerned by. Great character development, Many hours of play, and a good story makes this a worthy purchase.
Dissappointing

I loved the original series and hoped for a lot with this one. I confess I have not played it a lot but this is mostly because the interface and game play is so clunky. The combat interface seems nearly worthless and the camera is difficult and cumbersome. Friends tell me there is a great story line but I have not played enough to know for myself. I have some trouble forcing myself to go back and give it another chance. Perhaps with a patch or two it might be playable and more enjoyable and I could get to see the story line. I suggest this game be purchased from the bargain barrel.

THIS IS AN AWESOME GAME. EVERYONE IS ENTITILED TO HIS/HER OPINION, BUT SOME REVIEWS ARE MISLEADING. I'VE RESPONDED TO ONE SUCH REVIEW BELOW.
MY RESPONSES/COMMENTS ARE IN ALL-CAPS.
Bad:
Radial menus are gone.
THIS IS GOOD IMO!
Campaign is linear.
WRONG! IT IS LINEAR IN THE BEGINNING.
No exploration as there are no longer any area transitions. Go to world map, click area, fight in small area, go to world map, continue over and over.
THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO WALK FOREVER TO RETURN FROM A DUNGEON TO TOWN TO BUY/SELL GEAR.
Toolset is not intuitive and frustrating to use. If you think NWN's was difficult this one is much worse. NWN's is far superior in ease of use.
A CALCULATOR IS EASIER TO USE THAN A SPREADSHEET TOO.
There are very few tilesets and they lack what NWN's have.
TILESETS ARE OLD SCHOOL. EXTERIORS ARE NOW WALKMESHES WITH NO LIMITATION ON PLACEABLES.
There are no longer any Item, Monster, Clothing, wizards in the toolset.
THE WIZARDS IN NWN1 WERE UNNECESSARY. JUST COPY AND EXISTING ITEM AND MODIFY IT.
They used the same character soundsets as NWN but they're worse. WRONG.
MOST SOUNDSETS WERE UPDATED AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS GREAT!
Camera edge scrolling is too slow to use effectively. There is no way to adjust edge scrolling.
NEVER USE EDGE SCROLLING.
Chase camera is useless underground because walls obstruct view.
THERE ARE PLENTLY OF CAMERA OPTIONS; SOME MORE USEFUL IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS THAN OTHERS.
Cannot put 2 weapons or shield and weapon on quick slot - Dual Wield
ALREADY ANNOUNCED TO BE ADDED IN PATCH
Cannot unequip a weapon using quick slot. It must be done manually from the inventory screen.
YOU CAN JUST EQUIP ANOTHER WEAPON AS EASILY W/O UNEQUIPING THE EXISTING ONE
Cannot put skills/feats on quick slots. WRONG.
DRAG THEM FROM THE CHARACTER SHEET TO THE QUICK SLOT.
AI party characters get stuck and cannot move.
THAT HAPPENED IN NWN1 OCCASIONALLY TOO. THE GREAT THING ABOUT NWN2 IS THAT YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL OF THEM JUST BY CLICKING ON THEM TO RESOLVE AI ISSUES.
AI party characters must be micro managed as the AI is horrible. You have to keep pausing the game to get everyone working together, unpause for a few seconds, pause and rearrange them, and so on, and so on.
YOU PROBABLY WILL DO BETTER IF YOU MICROMANAGE, BUT THE AI IS DESCENT.
AI sometimes will not do what you order them to.
HAVEN'T NOTICED THIS.
Direction keys WASD over control movement making it very difficult.
YOU CAN REMAP ANY KEYS BEFORE YOU START THE GAME. YOU CAN'T REMAP DURING THE GAME SO PEOPLE OCCASIONALLY MISS THIS.
New targeting system is difficult and you end up casting spells on the wrong target constantly.
YOU CAN TURN OFF THE AUTO RUN ACTION ON SELECTED TARGET. THERE ARE TONS OF GREAT OPTIONS TO CHANGE THE UI AND BEHAVIOR IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE DEFAULTS.
No Linux support.
WHATEVER
No Great Cleave of Coup-de-Grace animations. the monsters around you just drop dead without anyone touching them.
HAVEN'T NOTICED
Cannot drag a box or ctrl click all of your party members to select them all; Like older titles from Obsidian??
OK
Character heads pretty much all look them same. You can give them different hair styles though.
I THINK THE OPTIONS ARE GOOD.
Hardly any monsters. They used different colors or just renamed some monsters with the same model. The first part of the campaign is just fighting dwarfs. No Minotaurs, Hobgoblins, only 2 dragons. THERE ARE PLENTLY OF MONSTERS.
THE MODELS ARE SPECTACULAR. I'D LOOK FOR OTHER DRAGONS, ETC. IN AN EXPANSION.
no rideable horses which NWN has
PLEASE!!!!!!!!
DM client is beta as they planned not to add one even though the 1st has it
THE CLIENT WILL BE DELIVERED. BE PATIENT.
Large persitant worlds are gone because of huge memory requirements (Developer's own words) This is probably why it shipped with D&D online a pay per month subscription
OTHER PW BUILDERS ARE MOVING FORWARD SO TIME WILL TELL
Non-stop cutscenes
AWESOME CUTSCENES AT THAT! HELLO! THIS IS A ROLE PLAYING GAME.
Poor animations
WRONG! COMPARE THE DRAGON MOVEMENT IN NWN1 AND NWN2. HA!
No more character portaits
GET OVER IT.
Hardly any variation in armor, weapons, clothing, items, etc - Falls way short of NWN
WE MUST BE PLAYING DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF NWN2. THE VARIETIES ARE PRACTICALLY INFINITE.
Graphics are better than NWN but mediocre when compared to other current titles. Frame rates are worse than titles with better graphics!
GRAPHICS ARE INCREDIBLE. GO TO THE NWN2 WEB SITE AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.
Obsidian dropped the ball on this one. They have not listened to the large NWN following and have implemented what they want, not the customer.
APPARENTLY THEY DIDN'T LISTED TO SOMEONE, BUT THE IMPROVEMENTS ARE RIGHT ON TARGET IMO.
If you're thinking about buying, it is more like Baldurs Gate than NWN. Even the "You have been waylaid by enemies," on the world map is back. If you like Icewind Dale or Baldurs Gate you'll probably like this.
OKAY
If you own NWN stick with it, if you like the sound of this type game buy NWN Diamond edition. It is far superior to NWN2.
IF YOU DON'T BUY NWN2 YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A LOT OF FUN!!!!
