So I got this as a Christmas gift, and as I start to install it I look and there is no CD key, ANYWHERE! BURNED!
SO I can't even PLAY this game to tell you what it's like, unless
I buy a second game and -hopefully-maybe-possibly- find one in there.
Which I will tell you honestly isn't going to happen.
I've own a few Atari games, and the quality of their
products are on a hardcore downhill ride. I have another Atari game (Demon Stone) and in that one the SOUND doesn't even play. I won't be buying from this company ever again.
Just a Movie

I am rating NWN2 as a 1 in regards to the official campaign's replayability and current nonavailability of playing online with friends. The campaign is excessively limited as I'll explain later.
I am giving NWN2 another star beyond my rating of 1 in that outside of the campaign, there is huge potential.
For the positive, there are lots of classes and prestige classes to choose to play, and combat options are huge considering you control a party of 4 or 5 characters. While only your main character can multiclass, each of the NPCs in the party offer many alternate strategies.
Unfortunately, the negatives greatly outweigh the positives. The official campaign is strictly linear. While your character has conversation choices, it matters little what you choose to say to NPCs. For instance, whether you choose to insult the sergeant of the guard or try to smooze him, the campaign forces the storyline forward. The insult to the sergeant may cause him to mutter and curse you, but he'll still let you pass through if that is the campaign's goal.
Ultimately, you are watching a movie where your sole options are in tactical combat. There are even two 25 minute segments where you cannot even play the game (cannot move, cast, sit, rub your nose, whatever) beyond a few meaningless conversations where your responses do not matter. Those occur as you advance between chapters I and II, then II and III. It is a pretty movie, but horridly long when you have to sit at your monitor to actually watch all 50 hours of it.
Because there are absolutely no choices to break away from the linearity of the campaign, there is virtually no replayability. It is fine to play it once, but understand its limitations before investing your money and your time into NWN2.
NWN2 Disappointing

NWN2 is just an extension of NWN1 with upgraded graphics, The voice files for your characters are the exact same ones they had in the original with nothing new. Most of the music has not even been changed. For some reason I did expect more, but I am ok with the game simply because of the roleplay potential. The big negative is with the DM client, it did not work at all when it was released, and it was an absolute disappointment for people who run Persistant world servers.
I think the main object of NWN2 was to create an improved platform over NWN1 where people can specifically create their own persistnat worlds and run with them. They have done that, but it started with a broken DM client which got the game is off to a slow start.
I still think it will be a good game to play for a while. I must admit though, I am finding myself not playing NWN2 as much as I thought I would. I am already bored with it to a certain degree.

I played the orginal NWN for over 2 years straight as my primary computer game. I preordered this game and when I started playing it...I was like...what the hell. Single player isn't really fun, another thing that isn't too good is that I just got a new computer and game lags no matter what graphics setting I put it on. I've got 2 gigs of ram and a Gforce 7800 256 card. Hopefully patches will be released that improve the game.
Not as good as Neverwinter Nights original but passable

I think Bioware needs to wake up to the fact that Neverwinter Nights 2 does not advance the series but takes it to new heights of annoyance.
Game play is smooth as I expected and I am running it on an Athlon XP 2800+ (about 2.1 Ghz) with an ATI Radeon 9550 256MB video card and 1GB of RAM. No problems found there.
However, I am peeved about the camera angle problem like so many others, but I have found that zooming out seems to resolve at least some of the issues though not all of them unfortunately.
The controls are vastly different from the original and at times frustrate me so much that I often forget that when I click on a quick item that I am on the wrong person when I am doing it and want to pick up the mouse and throw it across the room. Its easy to forget who is who during the heat of battle.
The other bothersome thing was the lack of really good NPC's when you are starting out in the game. Why did they kill my Wizard in the first 15 minutes of the game. I mean give me a break. I could have used her with the abundance of scrolls I find lying about or easily looted from bodies or chests. And what's with the tree hugging Druid, c'mon... give us some better PC's to start off with.
I can appreciate the story line though as it seems there was some thought put into it. And, I also liked the AI of the NPC's that works quite well during battles.
All in all I will recommend buying this game only when the price comes down. Do not pay over $30 for this game, it is not worth more than that.
Hopefully, poor sales will force Bioware to revamp the Neverwinter Nights series and get back to grass roots rather than killing the series off entirely.
Please Bioware, fix the game and revive the series. The fans want you to make a better product. We are loyal to your brand but we expect a better product from you.

Someone recommended this game to me at the beginning of the summer. I had never heard of it, but I saw it was made by the same people who had done Knights of the Old Republic II, so I decided to give it a try. The guide to creating a character was easy to use and I was off on my adventure. The tutorial was easy and straightforward, which is a great plus. I don't like wasting time figuring out how everything is supposed to work. I just want to get right to the action. I see that other people had problems early on with bugs and other issues, but I had none of these since I didn't play it until almost a year after it was released. I also have a fairly buff gaming rig, so there was no issues with that. The storyline was well-written and the characters were interesting and diverse. I have played through several times as different races and classes and never tired of the game. That is one of the surest signs for me of a great game. I wish I could say the same of the expansion pack...sigh.
Unacceptable because of SecuROM

I bought this game, it's now shelfware. I didn't play it nor will I ever. The problem is that in order to play the game, one must insert the game DVD into the disk drive. Unlike previous games, there is no way around that because some low-level software installed by Atari checks this. I uninstalled the game immediately when I noticed this.
I am a casual gamer and wanted to play this on my laptop every now and then, on flights or when waiting at the Airport. The DVD requirement makes that impractical because when I travel, I need to think of passport, tickets, schedule, and a million other things and certainly not the games DVD for NWN 2.
The second technical issue I have is with the SecuROM software installed. This software hooks itself deep into the system and causes instability. I am using my laptop mainly for work, so having this installed really is not an option for me. I can't risk my work environment for software that is _always_ on yet serves no use except to make sure other people don't copy NWN 2. I get no benefit from that. I have complained on the Atari forums to no avail.
I the future I will carefully check in advance if SecuROM or similar software is included and avoid such games. Too bad because I was a huge, huge fan of NWN 1, and I still play it every now and then. Expectations were high.
Give it a chance

Sure it lacks the extensive mod community of its predecessor and sure its system requirements are strangely high but once you grab a friend and set off on the campaign you will have a great time. I am excited for the NWN2 scene when the expansion comes out, we just need more modders to switch over from NWN1!

This seemed very cool when i first installed it. This game concept is just like Dungeons and Dragons online. I thought it was going to rock as soon as i started choosing my character and class. The graphics look really good but just can't compare to DDO. The quests in this game just drag on moving from one loading screen to the next. Also the combat system is really slow, and depressing when you click and it takes 5 seconds to hit the monster. Its just like playing an old school game with new graphics. I just left the game in its box and uninstalled it, I can't even sell it on ebay now because its not even worth the shipping costs. I'm never going to buy a game brand new in a store as soon as it comes out. 50 bucks on this just put tears in my eyes...depressing!

Obsidian:i have a couple of questions for you. 1)it is illogical for you to spend thousands of dollars for 3-4 years on producing a game only to release it in a mostly-unplayable condition.why would anyone do that??
2)didn't you notice that the market value for your game has achieved a world record by dropping down by as much as 20% during the first week of its release??what does that say??
3)can anyone in obsidian PLEASE tell me what in heaven's name were your tester's(if you have any)doing during the production of this game??i mean, there are glitches in the game that just BEG to be noticed.were your testers really working hard for their money??
4)after the release of NWN2(at this critical time of year),do you really think that gamers will trust your name ever again??especially after spoiling the name of one of the best games ever??especially since this is not the first time that obsidian screws up.hint:temple of elemental evil!!
i don't know if anyone from obsidian will ever get the chance to read this comment, but if anyone does, then please know that everyone would be better off by NOT having this game released especially at this time of year.simply put, what a shame...
