I eagerly awaited the newest edition to the D&D genre, but have been displeased overall with Neverwinter. For me, the one of the biggest reasons to play is individual character development along with team development - meaning the party system. Also, the graphics of the game are not as good as I had hoped. Infogrames should take lessons from Blizzard entertainment and Warcraft 3. Running around in OK 3D is not near as fun as awesome enhanced 2D (like Warcraft 3...). Since I am not a huge fan of internet gaming and prefer the single player campaign I can say that overall the game is not living up to my expectations - I know it was developed for multi-player, but the game just isn't delivering what I had hoped. Still, it is way better than Pool of Radiance (don't buy that one!). I am hoping that Icewind Dale 2 will deliver more of what I am looking for in an RPG.
nice game but a bit too tame

played the single player part of the game, nice but none too original storyline, would have been more interesting if the developers went all out make it really gutsy, i find it too tame and perhaps ok with pre-teens, would have prefered if the developers added a language filter, some random events and generaly make it less homey. would like to see a bit more gore, the dialog is lame, and some of the henchmen's battlecry is too annoying example is Linu. this is stableto run, never had any problems with crashes, would be realy cool if this game is just as naughty as Fallout 2

I bought neverwinter for 8 bucks. Absolutely great. I never really played dungeons and dragons so it was a little confusing at first, but the game is fabulous. Learning curve seems a little longer than most games. Take an hour or so before you make your mind up on the game. Some of the negative reviews say its like diablo. What is wrong with being close to the best ranked pc game of all time(gamespot.com)? If you don't like the style of game dont buy it. Neverwinter is suposed to be a good rpg and it deliveres. If you don't like action rpg games, you cant criticise a game for being one. For what its suposed to be, its great. Similar to diablo, seems a little more complex. Gives characters a lot of room to devlope and be creative, so every character isnt the same. If you liked diablo or baulders gate, you got to try this game. (...)
Fascinating.

Neverwinter Nights, in my opinion, represents a new type of game. Mainly, a large world complete with it's own unique dynamics and quests, that can exist for only one person, or for any amount of people. Taken almost directly from the pages of AD&D guidebooks, Neverwinter Nights exposes us to a world unlike any other.
You start the game by choosing what you want to be, and how you want to be it. Several races (including Elves and Gnomes), and several classes, along with a point distribution system ensures that you play the game you want to play.
The UI is at first a little hard to get used to, but so are any games in this genre. You are faced with a lot of options, but they are all explained rather well by the quick introduction series that you go through before the game REALLY starts.
Once you understand the combat system, the magic system, and the henchman system, it's simply a matter of going out into the world and discovering things. The single player game takes the form of a series of quests, with branching subquests, which full out gives around 60 hours of gameplay to the casual gamer.
After you have finished, you may find yourself wanting to play online. You can set up your own server, or find one to play on. It's all free, because it's all player made! With multiplayer, a person can take the role of the dungeon master, just like pen and paper game, and build a world and a story for you to solve.
This game lacks in the graphics department (characters aren't well fleshed out, textures are monotonous) but on the flip side it doesn't require much to run. The graphical deficiencies are made up in the intriguing gameplay, and the ability to make a world to suit you, and have others participate.
