As a newbie...I have enjoyed this game

OK...I am a true 1st person shooter game addict. I used to play the D&D style games on Sega and Nintendo in the way back time!!!

This game was my first return to that genre. I have to say I am enjoying this game. I am not blown away by it, but I do like it. I have read in some forums that Bioware took some of the best things D&D had to offer and threw it all out. I cannot comment since I am not into these games that much.

I like that this game cost me $30 and has kept me busy for days on end resolving puzzles while exploring the Neverwinter world.
I paid $50 for Max Payne 2 and Jedi Academy, yet finished them in 6 to 7 hours of pay time!!! RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!

NWN is a steep learning curve, the potions, spells, charms, and rules were utterly confusing to me and still are! I find the in game descriptions of items to be utterly useless! So I am a bit PO'd about that. The manual does nothing to help you. There should be a wizard to recommend character classes and help newbies pick character based on our game play style. Instead you get a menu of pre-created characters. You are better off reading a good walkthrough, using a trainer program at a cheat site so you can play and learn....THEN go back and do it for real.

Overall, I am enjoying NWN. I think the graphics are just fine. Not breath taking, but not bad either. Just remember this game is a STEEP learning curve...I am near the end and I canot figure out what somethings do or what some items are good for!

Super Duper

What!?!?! I have a Voodoo Graphics Card and NWN is very compatible with it. The game is as advertised, it is an electronic version of D&D. The graphics are a little less than I expected (compared to games like dungeon siege), but I will sacrafice that any day for playability. As far as other bugs are concered, I have only ran across one and I easily fixed it. My mouse pointer was not visible when I booted up NWN, but it took me 10 mins. to fix, 5 of those spent on the website reading the FAQ's.

If you are a D&D fan, buy this game. The multiplayer enviroment is excellent and addicting. It's limited to 63 or so players at a time so it decreased the chances to run across jack ... that take the fun out of role playing (I'm thinking of UO).

I haven't even delved into creating my own module, looking forward to it.

Going to be the #1 RPG of 2002...

Neverwinter Nights is scheduled for release on Linux, BeOS, Mac OS, and Windows ME/98. I doubt it will run under Win95 even.

What a shame. I purchased this game, installed it but it just won't run. Make sure before you spend your hard-earned dough that you check to see if your video drivers are up to date. I only have a Pentium II 10 Gigabyte computer which is still only 87% full but there is a conflict with the video drivers & because of this, the game will not load.

This game's incredible, but if you're not going to use it to create your own modules (or play in a friend's) you're not getting the full experience.

a distraction

This game is fun, but really it is just a distraction for me that doesn't leave me feeling any accomplishment when I finish.

Warning for multiplayers!

My husband bought this game with the hopes we could play with our friends (who live in places from Seattle, Washington to the United Kingdom).

If even ONE player has a 56K modem, you can only play with two people! Luckily a friend told us this before we opened the package and we got a full refund. And of course the Mac version won't be out for a while.

Okay

I was deciding whether or not to join a RPG club, and I wound up playing this game. I played for the entire time! Part of this was learning how to set up magic and all the other controls, but once I figured most of the stuff I had fun with it anyway. What I liked about this was that I think it allowed for both mouse and cursor movement (I think, but I played this awhile ago), which is good because I hate trying to click on a moving object. I also liked how the game progressed, and even allowed for multiclassing. The other thing that took so long was that I wanted to get every little treasure, and for the most part I managed it.

There was one thing that wasn't correct, though. A friend and I sat down one time and wrote a character sheet, and it turned out that the druid learned one spell per day (plus perhaps one or two extra for his wisdom), but could use it up to three times per day at the start. NWN seemed to be designed backward in this respect, as it said spells per day was different spells that the druid possessed, but they were only useable one time per day. The sorceror seemed to have normal uses per day, but I believe they were just starting out, and this might account for it being normal rather than backwards as well. As we understood it, spells per day actually meant just that, the spells that were used per day, whereas this spells known meant sepearate spells known. While the spells known might plausibly have given up to 9 different spells, each with 4 uses (spells per day), though I doubt it, I really don't think it was designed to have four different spells, each with up to 9 individual uses. It seemed like it would make more sense to have it as a mana pool, especially since wizards have unlimited arcana, this would mean spells per day was actually 4 uses per day, with any spell, and in a mana pool once 4 spells were cast from that spell level it gets expended. Rather than 4 spells and unlimited uses, which is why I pretty sure it was backward.

One of the Best RPG's I've played

Being a HUGE RPG fan, I was eagerly awaiting NWN. I hadn't found a game with an intriguing plot line, imagination and a diverse setting since Planescape Torment (a game years ahead of its time). In NWN I found what I was looking for.

Because NWN has the ability to be a good solo game as well as free on-line party play there is something for everyone. What is even better is the dimension of the DM. A "player" that watches everything the other players do and can type in responses for NPC's, insert creatures, treasure and other encounters.

Class, race, skill and feat choices were far ranging allowing the creation of extremely varied characters. There where times when I felt a bit limited on feat choices (especially as a fighter) when higher levels, but I think this will be fixed with the new expansion.

I was a little disappointed at first. The adventure that comes with the game is a little linear and the plot is so-so. But NWN comes with an amazing campaign editor. There are people making some really clever and inventive adventures for free download. Not to mention that many of these adventures come with custom made enhancements to NWN (such as new items, landscapes, races and world rules). I have played through at least 25 downloaded adventures and at least 1/2 were excellent and 5 were so good that I e-mailed the adventure to all the people I know that play the game.

Having played well over 20 other computer RPG's, this one has held my attention for nearly a year now and with the upcoming expansion I expect my interest to continue.
