The game is a FPRPG with a rather difficult-to-get-used-to interface. I admit to liking the 3rd person RPG format better(Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale) which translates to the lower ranking here. If you like FPRPGs, this may work for you, though you're limited in where you can go and what you can do. After a few hours of play, and a lot of saving, the game interface gets frustrating, making the game less than playable (or enjoyable) for me.
Good single Play, But No Multiplay

this is a pretty good game if you are the kind of person who likes to play by themselves. This game has no LAN multiplay capabilities unless you buy a CD for every person playing. Also the controls are a little awkward.
Be careful what you wish for.......

I, too, have been eagerly anticipating this game for a loooong time. All I can say is.....I can now see several months of my life becoming a blur when I look back on them in about 15 years or so....run, buy, call in sick, and enjoy.

This game is a ripp off! in order to play it online folks your going to have to buy all the exspaion disks too. Be warned! You'll not be able to play this game online without them and a whole lots of hassels!!!!!!! it stinks badly, plus you cannot return this stuff after you've opened the game for a re-fund either!

I bought this game because lots of my friends told me how cool it was to built and manage your own game but as soon as I got it I had problems with it. First you have to keep switching CD when you install it. Second it took me almost an hour to load it because I kept getting all these error screens. Once that was fixed I tried to play it, the game was slow and choopy I have a brand new Dell with a P4@ 2.4 GHz processor but it looked [bad] it told me to download a new driver for my graphics card I did this but still the game lookes bad it cant seem to take advantage of the hardware that I have. I have yet to try the toolset and built my own enviorment because it wont let me access that part of the game I get error screens something about not being compatible with my pc graphics card.
My PC more than meets the requirements to run this game but i still cant run it without it crashing or slowing down.

This game is an insult to the world of Dungeon and dragons
Come on even Pool of Radiance is better than this.
What the heck is this going back to the old format of dnd games Hello there, gamer want perspective like diablo2 Baldur's gate
where you can see your charcter see in slash, cast a spell not a permenant camera following you has if you were in a maze.
Extremely complicated for nothing thank good i have a geoforce2 asus 7700 powered by nvidia or else is it back to store for a refund or an exchange.
I got nothing else to say that wasn't said from the other reviewers... Get Warcraft3 and Diablo2 or even Pool of Radiance, Icewindale...

Personally, I'm not a fan of D&D and so I have absolutely no clue about the rules of this game. The only reason I decided to give this game a [change] was because it was highly anticipated. Although there are many bugs and problems with this game (I only experienced 1), I find that the gameplay/storyline/graphics more than outweigh the problems. After reading some of the other reviews I must disagree with some of the people. I ran the game on my 800 mhz desktop with geforce 2 gts at 1280x1072 and 64-bit and it ran just fine. I have yet to have a game crash on me except for one of the downloaded modules which was poorly designed. I found the camera view to be very smooth unlike the person who said that this should have been first person... what the hell were you thinking? As for Diablo 2... yes it does have some resemblances such as the stone of recall but who would want to walk all the way to town and then back? Overall the game held my attention for about the 30 hours that I took to complete it and it has great future potential in the online modules.
A wonder of Roleplay

Alright, I've played every Forgotten Realms game out there and I have to say that Neverwinter Nights is by FAR the best of them all. Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale are primative compared to this roleplaying revolution. The adventures never end! Even when you finish the main plot you can play modules made by other players...or even make your own adventure.
Excellent

Very good game although not revolutionary it truely is a great game in all aspects. Anyone the least bit interested in RPGs should pick this one up if you can handle the cost. :-)
