I am a huge Sims fan and could not wait for the title to be released console version even though I had some doubts. I should have listened to those doubts. Maybe the game would have been totally great for me if I hadn't already been totally spoiled by playing Sims with all the expansion packs for the past few years on PC which is absolutely way too cool for school.
Major disappointment!

I have been a die hard fan of the sims since it was first released on the pc. I own every expansion pack available. I must say though in my opinion the ps2 version does not live up to its predicesor. Yes the environments are 3D which is a plus but I do not agree that the graphics are better. The objects are not as crisp as in the pc version. You do however get to customize your sims to be more unique in the ps2 version.
The game speed is another issue. It is much slower in comparison to the pc version. Yes you can fast forward but even this is still slow. The pc version offers you three speeds normal, medium and fast fast forward.
The ps2 version does however have some nice game play features which the pc does not yet offer. On the ps2 you have a "get a life mode" and a "missin mode." In get a life you have objectives to fulfill so you can move out of moms house and in to your own. From there you keep working your way up in to sims high society by completing the levels. You are able to unlock new objects as you go. In mission mode you and another player get to compete to be the best at various tasks.
If you are looking for a huge variety of objects for your sims home the pc version is the way to go. The expansion packs offer much more than the ps2 could ever. Not to mention the endless sim websites to download from. The pc sims has endless possibilities.
Well...

The best thing about this game is probably the idea of it being on PS2, that or being able to costomize your sims so well (which is awesome!). But you have to have TONS of light in your house to be able to see anything clearly. You can't zoom in as close at the PC and they barely took anything from the expansion packs besides a few objects. You need to get used to the controlls, but after that it's pretty easy, I wouldn't recomend building a house right away, that will take tons of effort if your not used to 'em. :)
On the good side you can play two player mode, work together or play against each other. Though you can't see them, if you COULD get closer the graphics would be great. There's now a place where you can play with rules and goals and work your way up! Making your sim is a lot more fun now and with the cheats you can build your dream house! If you have a bad computer that makes your game crash every 2 minutes (like mine!) this will probably be better for you. If you haven't played the PC verson before, to bad for you ;) check out the PC first.
Plain boring

It is quite addictive for the first 3 hours, mainly because you're learning how to use the interface.
But then you realize that it is a stupid game: you're responsible of managing the lives of some people. But for this game, to live is to eat, sleep, watch TV, talk, tickle, go to the bathroom, clean... etc
Has anyone really wondered what is this life for? The beauty of living cannot be represented by the minimalistic abstraction of our duties.
People who find this game amusing really don't really have anything better to do with their lives.
what a great game!

this is probably one of the best PS2 games that will ever come out. it is from the makers of the best-selling PC game for 1999, 2000, and 2001 (the sims & it's expantions) and now it's (for the first time) comming out with it for the counsole : play station two with many new features. one of the many features is a double player mode where you get missions to do such as one called "maid's day off" in which you go to a maid's house and you & the other player clean the house, and whoever wins gets to take a dip in the hottub with that dirty, dirty maid! YAHOO!!! Another mode is the "life mode" in which you live with your mother, get a job, and , with enough money, you can move out, get married, get your own house, and start a life!!! Of course, there is the original mode that you can do with a bunch of new & cool objects like the kid's sandbox, the treehouse, the in-ground hot tub, the cooler, and the party bar. there is also a neat charecter skins making. you are able to make your sims just like you to the best detail; have them blue-eyed, long, blone hair, backwards hat, no shoes, a red t-shirt, whatever you want in complete detail! is your mouth watering yet?
I Can't Wait!

If there was a "6" as a rating, that's what I would give this game! It's awesome! The new graphics are soooo cool. I'm a fan of The Sims, but this looks even better! Everything is in 3D so you can go in any view you want! Secondly, they made the game level based! I always thought they should do that, and finally, they have! The options you have to make a sim is incredable! Plus, you could customize and win so many objects! How can you not want this game?! There are endless new features and great graphics! I'm getting the game right when it comes out!
Very fun and entertaining!

I have never played the PC game, so I cannot quote on what the differences are, but all I know is that this is a very very cool game. It's like a Create It Yourself reality show or Big Brother: The Video Game. Its cool! That's all I can say. Check it out!!
An okay version, but PC one is easier on the eyes

I have to say at first I hated this game because it is hard on the eyes and you have to get used to controling with the stick instead of a mouse (pretty hard in design mode). But as I have finally had more time to play, it still has some of the old Sims magic. I agree with those who say this is disappointing in what you can do to your sims (clothing, hair, and so on) but maybe as we progress, more things get unlocked (? keep hoping). I think the price of this game is too high. After all, the Sims PC has been out nearly 3 years (maybe more). So far there is not much novel in this game. If you can get a good deal or borrow it, do that before spending [$$$].
Definately rent this one

This game, based on all of its' good reviews, I thought it would be great. However, I was disappointed when I recieved it. The game is fun for a while, then QUICKLY gets boring. I've heard it said that it had more items and things to do than the first original PC version. I find this to be false. In fact, I believe the original bland PC version is better.
In the PS2 version, you can't have more than one floor. That's just wrong :( and you can't have a roof either! grrr. I admit there are more options for fully customizing your character.
The whole unlocking thing gets annoying, but an interesting idea. The level-based thing is a good idea, but doesn't cut it because of it's difficulty sometimes. Again, with all games involving The Sims, the timing is unreal. Since when does it take 2 1/2 hours to just go potty? It's easier going on the floor :P It saves time.
The only thing I really enjoyed in this game was the two player feature.
Another annoying feature is that you can't zoom in very close, and all of the pictures *like thinking bubbles and item pictures in the Buy section* are so tiny, you need to squint to try and figure out what the heck they are.... grrrr
Well, in my opinion, the game is fun for a while, but definately not worth its' price of [$$$]. If you wanna play it, I suggest renting.
BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
