The Sims was a great port of an iconic PC game, its one of the most challenging games I`ve ever played on PS2.
The Sims is an RPG/simulation game that has the player being in control of virtual people and how they live.
There are two parts of the game,"The Sims" and "Get A Life",the GAL bit has you create an adult sim and bring him/her up through the ranks of life from living at moms house as a low-life and don`t even know how to cook, until you are with a family of your own and have an expensive mansion and promoted the the best aspect of your job,in GAL for each "rank" you have different goals, you must complete all the goals of each level to move on higher.
"The Sims" bit is the bit where you can create your own family of sims, buld your own housing, get the adult sims jobs and use cheats, this is basically the game that you can just have fun in.
You can purchase,or cheat, press L2+L1+R1+R2 simultaniously in the main menu to bring up the cheats secton, then write in FREEALL using the letters they provide,it only works in "The Sims" not Get A Life, this cheat provides allows you to get anything you want for free, but with the exception of buying food, pizza and paying bills, but dats easy, just get a job, work 3 days in a shift then allow the boss to fire you and you should have no problem buying these things, except the bills, just avoid the bills as the billman just comes and takes something liek your TV,but you can just get another one for free,so screw them.

You have something like six guages to show your sims feelings, there is:

Hunger:Shows how fed your sim is,if it is low The Sim will be very bad mood and will start automatically cooking for them selves, even if they can`t cook.Easy to rid your sim of hunger just cook, grab something from da fridge or order pizza.

Social:Your sim will feel lonely if he/she doesn`t talk to someone, either talk to other members of the family or answer teh door to neighbours, throw a party or invite someone, careful tgough you shouldn`t ring them late at night as they will just be p`d off at you.

Hygene:
Your sims are clean things, but they are very keen on their hygene, ignore this and people will avoid them and they will start sniffing their armpits to find they stink. After eating pizza its a good idea to go wash your sims hands, and take a wash often, whether a quick spray in the shower or a nice relaxing bath, the sim will get cleaner.

Fun:
The Sims get bored easily,if you neglect this the sims will start being moody to other people, this is easy to fill in,just watch TV,play computer games, play pool or for the adult sims, get a few friends to join you in the hot tub, this will fill in both fun and social guages.

Energy:
Your sims need to sleep at night,or you can just have them high on caffine,or when need to pass time, take a nap on the sofa next to the book shelves.

well this game was great and worth a buuy, seeya thangs 4 reeding!

Just not a sims fan......

For the life of me,I can't figure out why so many people think that this is a great game. The sims on the PC is mildly amusing, but it get's sooooo repetitive.Get up,clean up,go to the bathroom, eat,go to work, come home, watch tv,go to sleep NOW REPEAT ABOUT 500+ TIMES!!!

Sadly, the PS2 version is even worse;as a matter of fact,I could tell early on in the game, that this was a rushed project. There's only a handful of diffrent styles to choose from esp. with the accesories, and hairstyles(most of the hairstyles look really dumb by the way). Also you can only make your sim have a punk look(mohawk, goth make up)if your sim is female. Why??I thought that the sims was supposed to have all these outrageous options.

As for the "get a life" mode,it's a total joke. There were some good concepts put in,but the creators tied them together terribly. One of the main problems was that there was such a flimsy stress on the time schedule. The mom would never go to sleep at a certain time;sometimes she would sleep all night, sometimes she would stay up and then sleep all day.You will also be annoyed at how many times she will wake you up at 3 or 4 in the morning just to watch tv or listen to the radio!!The mom is also a total slob;throwing trash on the floor, leaving dirty dishes out and even going to the bathroom in the kitchen!

What's even worse is that you HAVE to play this terrible mode of play in order to unlock certain furniture in the regular sims mode.Believe me,after hearing "mom" nag at you for about 70% of the things that are HER fault, you'll be quitting this REALLY quick!!

I don't know,I guess the sims is a game that you either love or hate. This is just my opinion, but I don't understand what all the hype is about. If you are one of the many sims fans however,I suggest you play this game on the PC rather than the PS2.This game is not as great as you might think it would be;I'm just mad that I wasted $.. on this one.

Great game, but gets boring

No more reticulating splines or hyperventilating the children (or is that hyperactivating the children?).

Though not quite basic fare, The Sims, a PlayStation2 release from Maxis and Electronic Arts, takes the core game back to the beginning, and introduces the phenomenal simulation to a new platform and likely a new fan base.

Paul has a problem. He lives with his mother, has little money and no skills. He is neat; his mother is a slob. She leaves garbage on the floor. The television is smoking and she incessantly demands that he learn to fix it. Of course, just walking up to the television and tinkering with it is conducive to session of electric shock therapy. Paul will need to skill up, earn points by studying cooking and mechanics.

Then he will have to find a job in order to make himself self-sufficient enough to move out of the house.

The Sims does deviate from the PC version of the game in several areas. For starters, the game begins after creating your Sim with a dream sequence where your character receives a romantic kiss and a naked foray into a hot tube. Don't worry, parents, in typical Sims fashion, even though your Sim is naked, you don't see anything. But it is in the middle of this dream sequence that your Sim receives a rude awakening. The mansion sequence is a portend of what could happen if your Sim is successful in life.

When you are in the learning phase of the game, your "mom" will jabber in Sim talk, but a pop-up screen will also give you clues as to what you need to be doing. Don't study cooking and your first effort on the stove may result in a fire. You must accomplish certain tasks in order to prove that you are ready to move out of your mother's house and try to make it on your own.

Bonus items will also be made available as you accomplish tasks. Fixing the television will unlock a vanity mirror, which as any PC Sims player knows, is used to practice speech and increase charm.

The game also features the building modes and the same interface features buying, speeding up time, as well as the range of personal indicators to measure hygiene, fun, and energy among others that the PC version has.

Another one of the newer features in the game is the multiplayer mode. You can go head-to-head in a competition, and if successful, you can unlock the "Play The Sims" mode, in which two players can have created Sims share a home.

The control elements of this game were wonderfully ported from the PC to the PS2. PC gamers may take a few moments to get acquainted with where everything is, but once the concepts are in place, it could almost be said that this platform while lacking the various expansions of The Sims PC series is easier to play (certainly easier to save) than it's older cousin.

Because there is no mouse to move and issue commands to your Sim, a beam of light and circle, falling from the heavens, is used to initiate commands.

Graphically the game is color and almost identical to the PC version. The playing area may be a little more finite, but the environmental elements are very well done, and the world is quite colorful.

The game's sound is almost incidental to the play. The Sims jabber in their own peculiar language and the music is almost akin to the tunes heard in an elevator.

The Sims, for the PS2, serves and an introduction on the PlayStation 2 to the concepts of the PC game franchise while dropping in some new ideas to give the program some fresh aspects. This is a game in which you micromanage a created character in a cyber realm that, to some extent, mirrors the real world. It takes time to play and develop a character, and those who have never played The Sims may find their opinions of the program defaulting to one of two settings either you will really like the game, or you won't like it at all.

Sims addicts can take comfort in the fact that now your PC hard drive does not have to be eaten alive with saved games.

This game is rated Teen for comic mischief, mature sexual themes and mild violence.

THIS IS A GREAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never played The Sims before because I didn't think it was that great and I didn't want to take up the room on my computer. But, when I found out it was coming out for ps2 and other systems I was very happy. Now I can enjoy playing the Sims with taking up space and my computer. The Sims is a great game I already beat "get a life" mode and now I am going on to "the Sims" mode. In the Sims there are two different types of game play. One is "get a life". In a get a life you start out living in your moms house and you have to beat missions. An example one missions is two learn skills and borrow $$$ from your mom to move out. It is very fun. When your beat the missions your move into a other house. After your moms house you move in to Dudley "a character in the game" party house. Then you have to clean his house and other fun missions then you move into Dudleys house and be his roommate. This is one of the best parts of the game. In Dudleys house you have to throw great partly and move in with a guess from the party. After you move in with a guess from the partly go to the guess house and are he or her room mate. While you're their roommate you still have to throw parities and you have to score with a person at the party and get married. Once you get married you move in a house and save up some money. Once you save money and beat the mission you move to other house and you have to have two kids. Once you have the kids you have to keep their grades up in school and you have to save money. I would recommend not to spend money because in your next house one of your missions is to save up $ 20,000 for reticent. So I saved out my money and when I moved in I already beat a mission. After having your kids and beating the missions you move into a huge house. There you send your kids off to school. Then you have to throw the best partly ever and this is how. 1. first eat. 2. have everyone go around the piano and play it and make every one dance don't stop play Intel you get tried. 3. when you're done with the piano have everyone go into the hot tub. And you threw a great partly. After you throw a good partly then you win get a life mode. The ending is very good. When you beat get a life mode you unlock different items like hot tubs, better cooking supplies, and my favorite was the monkey. When you unlock the monkey he can clean for you and fix things for you for cheaper than the maid and repair man. The monkey can also, help you throw a better partly. He can entertain and cook for you're partly. The monkey is a very good to buy. But the monkey is 15,000 so save up your money. Now to go on to the other mode "The Sims" it is pretty much the same thing as it has always been but with different items and stuff. There is also another mode that is very cool. It is "Two Player Mode". In two player mode you can go in your friends house you can go in your own house and it's really fun and new.

Pros and Cons of The Sims"

Pros

1. Very fun to play.
2. New features like "get a life mode"
3. Loading time is pretty good.
4. Fun to beat levels.

Cons.

1. Hard to play if you never played The Sims before.
That is the only con I could think of.

Over all the game is great and would recommend this game to anyone it is very fun and you can play along with your friends.

I was really excited about the game coming out for PS2, but when I got it, I was very dissapointed. It's not really like the PC game, it's somewhat confusing, and it is harder to control. It isn't a bad game, just not nearly as good as the computer version.

Terribly Dissapointing

Introduction:
The anticipation for this game was building up inside me i get it and >:o. I was expecting this to be the best sims ever. I was shot down...

Gameplay 1/10
I was very dissapoited in the way you move your sim. I was hoping you would actually move him with the left anaolg stick, having control over his whole body. Not like in the computer game. Also... in the computer game there are three speed options. 1, 2 and 3. You press 1 2 or 3 on the keyboard and it will go that speed. On this game u have to HOLD DOWN R2 and it doesn't go higher than 2. Big flaw. When you go to sleep it's speed 3 automatically. I really don't like the fact that you can't build two story houses... another terribly dissapointing factor. Also I hate having to unlock the stuff in the buy mode. I wish I could just play freely. The gameplay is terrible and i really, honestly have nothing to good to say about it.

Graphics 9/10
Compared to the computer game, this is definitely better. When you get in the hot tub, steam comes out from it, as well as the cooler. There are more face options and the people look more realistic. I definitely feel more in the game, then controlling the game. Nothing bad to say here... but they didn't look amazing, so 9 suits it well.

Sound 7/10
Ahhh... yes sim music. Everything is the same as in the computer game. Except they speak clearer (not that it matters). The music really isn't that bad, but gets annoying sometimes. The sound FX are good, not great.

Play Time 3/10
You can play it forever, but you won't want to. Not only because the game is bad, but because you just start to get bored after a while.

Overall 4/10
I was really dissapointed. I was hoping for more and I think EA games could have made this MUCH MUCH better. Go buy the computer games... they are waay better.

Final Recommendation
Do not buy this game! If you really really wanna check it out... rent it first. Do not buy on the spot... I did and it's been collecting dust in my "Bad Game Pile". The only good thing about this game is the graphics.

I agree with the positive comments, but....

I love the Sims for Playstation 2 so far. There are a lot of neat new features that others have described. To play devil's advocate... (and hopefully round out the view for those who know the Sims for PC/Mac)

Benefits of PC version over Playstation Version:
You know how many more skills you need for each section before you could get a promotion, on PS2 you don't. (EXAMPLE: I need one more body skill and two more charisma skills before I can reach promotion)

You can see all the friends you have, with PS2 you can only view the top 5.

Silly, but the nudity censor is much better on PC. On PS2, the nudity blocker is so big you almost can't see your Sim!

On a PC, you can choose from 3 different speeds. On PS2, you can only choose from slow to medium speed. The only way you can get fast speed is if all the Sims in your household are asleep at the same time.

That's all I've noticed in my first week of play. It is still very fun, though, and when played on a high definition big screen TV with awesome sound it is much more fun than on a little computer screen! I can't wait to try the 2 player mode.

Hope this review helps! As I said, I agree with all the positives, too, I was just trying to present a different view.

HORRIBLE

I have ALL of the expansion packs for The Sims on PC. I LOVE that game.. and thats why I wanted SO much to get The Sims for ps2. When my brother brought it home, I ran upstairs, all excited to play my new game that I had paid SO much $$ for.. and what a waste it was. Lets talk about the graphics. Well first of all.. you can't even SEE them! Everythings fuzzy and you can't zoom in far enough to even see what your doing! The Get a Life mode.. well it about put me to sleep! The Mother was always telling me to do this and do that. I mean, come on! I just want to have alot of money and build a house and have a family! The game is so confusing. It took me a LONG TIME to get use to the controller. When I went to build my house, it took me forever to put up 1 wall. Theres not much of a variety of things either.. besides you can't even see what your buying! The picture is like ... this tiny! For now, I'm sticking to my PC version.

REALLY REALLY.......FUN

An interactive reality video game?

The Sims seems to borrow some elements of "reality TV" and created a sort of "interactive reality video game". If you are even just a little interested or intrigued by any of the "reality TV" shows (and apparently most of America is since there are a countless number of popular shows, from The Osbournes to Survivor, etc.), then you'll probably be interested in this game. It's a refreshing and enjoyable game that can be played for hours and hours or for just a quick little session, with a friend or solo. Even if you never played a video game in your life, you can pick it up easily enough, and yet it's entertaining enough for the veteran game pro as well. The game is well presented, explained, and simple, yet still very deep and complex. It's a completely original game, like nothing else on the PS2. Even if simulator-type games are not what you are normally into, you may still enjoy it, since you can make your Sim do pretty much anything you want him/her to do.

It's a simple enough idea... just make your Sim character the best person he/she can be, and enjoy the interactions with other Sim characters and their environments. Your Sim is happiest when all of his/her needs are being met. He/she needs to eat when hungry, needs to sleep when tired, needs to play when in a bad mood, needs to interact to keep relationships strong, and yes, even needs to use the restroom when the bladder is full... you get the idea. You lead your Sim through all the daily activities in an effort to make him/her as happy as possible, get a job, be successful, and perhaps even find love (or maybe just a one-night stand?).

Beyond the simplicity of the basic structure of the game, the real fun is in it's humor, unlocking all the hidden items and features, and building/upgrading your house with all the purchasable home improvement items. When you first create your Sim, there are numerous clothing options and body styles and looks to have fun with. Make your Sim look like you, or make your Sim look completely stupid and silly. It's up to you. You can choose the career path that your Sim will take, and when you have the money, spruce up your Sim's abode. Put a couple of hottubs in the house, throw a raging party and see if you can score with a party guest!

There are also a number of ways to play The Sims. You can play a level based game in the "Get a Life" mode, where you'll need to achieve a set of goals (such as getting promoted at your job, etc.) before you can move out of your current living situation and move on to an increasingly better lifestyle. It's also in the "Get a Life" mode that you can unlock many of the hidden items, which makes the game even more fun... and addictive! You can also play an open-ended style of The Sims, where you can create and play each character in an entire neighborhood full of Sims. Two players can also play together in this mode. Then when you want a little competition with your friend, try one of the many mini-games (you'll also be unlocking these in the "Get a Life" mode) such as the Frat House or the Museum.

However, as with most games, there are some short-comings. The game can be a little slow at times, but if you find yourself waiting for your Sim to complete a task, you can always speed up the time by pressing the top shoulder button. So no big deal there. Also, some people might find the Sim language a little annoying, but it can actually be fun to hear the unusual, non-sensical words... well, maybe for the first few hours anyway. And lastly, the graphics may not be awe-inspiring especially for a PS2 game, but I think they are done well enough that it doesn't detract from the gameplay... and I think the gameplay is the most important aspect afterall.

Overall, I recommend this game highly simply for it's easy-to-use stylistic presentation, unending replay value, and refreshingly fun gameplay.
