Sims on PS2 has both pros and cons

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

The good things: Better graphics, bigger screen, clearer picture, easy to control. What saves this game is the 2-person "Play the Sims." My husband and I created ourselves, then built our house and decorated it like our own and then played the game together. Realizing our Sim alter-egos were sitting on the couch staring at the TV, when we were pretty much doing the same thing in real-life was hilarious.

The bad things: Why didn't they add more? Only 5 career fields? No Business Career? Politics? Hacker? This wouldn't have taken much. Allowing you to build a second story wouldn't have been that difficult either. Maybe they held some things back in order for us to have to go out and buy it again in a year or two when they've added those things in.

Summary: Highly addictive and fun to play, but held back by annoying oversights.

Good like the PC version. It has both pros and cons. First the pros, it has 3D graphics and has two new modes Get a life which you do objectives such as borrow money from your mom, fix the TV, get promoted to the highest job levels and lots more. And it also has 2 player mode. Here is the cons, no stairs tool, now this was very stupid of the developers not to add this, I mean I live in a 2-story house and so I can't recreate my house on my PS2. Another con is EA put the game on a CD, this causes several sub cons such as, a DVD can hold more data which means they could have put in some expansions such as hot date and unleashed. Another is I don't think this game is worth [$$$] dollars with all these cons, The Sims Deluxe on the PC comes with some expansions and cost [$$$].

Even if you never played the sims

I bought this games with high expectations, and it didnt fail.
I had never played the sims but i had heard it was a very impressive game, and also it is the best selling game ever made.
Well i popped it in my ps2, an I just became an addict. Its a very unique game where you control your "sim" an what he/she does. Its a like a life simulator, making our dreary lives into a game. Anyways you wont regret buying this for anyone. The mature sexual themes on the back, ignore it theres nothing bad. The only downside to the game is the audio. The music thats there is good, but only a little of it. THe people talking may get on your nerves so just turn off the sound an pop in a cd somewhere. All in all a very good game

Great Game

I gave this 4 stars because I didn't really like the controls as much as I did on the pc. Also the challenge levels are quite difficult. The graphics and the thoughtfullness of the levels bring this game back up. If your looking for a game to just build a house and stuff get the pc version. Otherwise go with this.

I just got this game yesterday and i am very impressed. Although i did not get to play it that much i since it is my brothers ps2 when i do get to play it i do not waste time. the reson i rated it 4 stars is because when you build a house and try to paint it you have to do it by hand and on the computer you just have to press shift. you cant have 2 story houses either. but the good stuff about it is that there are objectives and the graphicsare sssssooooo much better!and when you creatate a person you can do the girls make-up and the boys facil hair. you do how fat or skinny your sim will be and if you want glasses, earings (even for men)........... in the sims on the computer the face and the hair are together but in this you can do what face you want and then the hair you want. you pick what style of clothes and shoes and then pick their color.some peaple say the controls are hard to get used to but they really are not if you read the manual type thingy. every video game i get i am so excited to play it i read the instructions so it doesn't take me an hour to figure out how to play it! it took me 2 minutes to figure out how to play it.i know i said this b4 but THE GRAPHICS ARE SSSSOOOOO GOOD!!!!

Dont waste your time or money...

this game is nothing like the computer version it costs more and the game does not work well. You cant do anything unless you pass missions and the controls are really hard to use so if you have a computer ud be better off buying that version because the video game system version is a total waste of money

This was great until....

Alright I rented this game wondering how the contorl's would be and how it would compare to the PC version, Trust me, The PS2 version is great, better then PC, I love how you need to complete goals to move on, the game has a point!, unlike the one on PC where you just move around, so far everything was great until this after noon, I had to get a promotion as one of my goals, and i needed to work out to do that, but first, my sim needed to raise the fun level, i told him to go play basketball, he got out there, and just stood there, DOING NOTHING! now when i tell him to stop, he doesn't, he keeps standing there, my sim will not move!!! This game was great, but they needed to fix the little bugs like this one before putting it on the selves

Great game

I have had this game for 6 months and it is still fun. There are lots of jobs in this game such as Military,Robber,Daredevil,Waiter and so on.If you play this game to long it gets boring. In this game you can even build houses. This game takes up lots of memory on your memory card so make room.Over all this is a great game!!!!!!!

Fun ... But Nothing Incredibly Special

The biggest improvement for the PS2 version of "The Sims" is the 3-Dimensional world you get to navigate. This adds various levels of fun and "coolness" to an otherwise 2-Dimensional game. And "The Sims," of course, is an acquired taste.

Do you like multi-tasking and micro-managing? Than this is for you. But if you're into exploding building and weeping mothers, well, get the pointlessly gory and nearly-unplayable "Manhunt" instead.

"The Sims" offers hours of entertainment. The first day I got this game, I played it for several hours, almost building "bonds" with my main character. I wanted to see him succeed, do better in life, get the girl, get the nice stereo, etc. I put it down and tried to do something productive, like read a book....

.... then a few minutes later, I was thinking about what he'd do next. Should I work out for a couple of hours to get that job promotion? Or maybe he should throw a party to increase his social happiness level? These are questions I should've been asking myself, applying to my personal life, but found much more enjoyable to click buttons about.

So "The Sims" is addictive and fun. However, because this is a PS2 game and not for the PC, there are no upgrades. But I never bought any of the PC upgrades anyway, so that doesn't really matter to me. And now that the PS2 is fully embracing on-line gameplay, perhaps these additions will come in the future.

For the meantime, this is a fun and flawed game, very singular in its target audience, and enjoyable to those who have a weird God complex.

Fun, for a while
