Really let down

I have never played the Sims before, but when I saw that it was being released for the PS2 I had to have it!

I enjoyed building the sim, but after I put her in her world, wow, how BORING. And it takes forever to do anything. Do you know anyone who takes an hour and a half going to the bathroom? Or eating breakfast? I think they should have made the timing on this game a bit more realistic. I don't know, I sort of felt like I was babysitting the whole time.

Maybe I wouldn't have been so disappointed if I hadn't expected so much more from this game. If you're thinking of buying it, stop - get the PC version.

The sims is an awesome game! Its way better than the computer version because it has way better graphics and you can play with two players.like the one were you compete against each other to steal as much food as you can from the people at the park. And you can buy a monkey butler that does whatever you tell him to.You have to unlock certain items so at the menu screen hold L2,L1,R1,R2 to bring up a cheat screen and enter MIDAS.That will make all the items unlocked. And to make everything free enter FREEALL.
Everyone who has played the sims on computer and have a ps2 go buy The sims on ps2 cause its way better than the computer version.

PRO: The user's agency not only draws us deeper in the game, but also initially attracts us to it. The Sims capitalizes on the human desire to witness immediate tangible results and create the best life for ourselves. CON: I don't want to play the game enough to memorize the commands simply because there is too much to remember, and I don't have the time. I could never become immersed in the game.
PRO: I felt as if I was controlling a world. I had the power to create, control, and live the character within the game itself. CON: Video games in themselves are not enough to capture the imagination. They need to be aided with good story lines that capture the gamer's attention and keep them involved.
PRO: The Sims allows the player to employ 'active creation of belief' which draws the player deeper into the fictional world. CON: The Sims is too akin to real life without actually being real life.
PRO: Should the user give the Sims free will or not? If the Sims have free will, the game paradoxically becomes more immersive because the user has less control. CON: I was not immersed in the Sims because every item I saw was a reflection of the real world.
PRO: The openness of the Sims provides us with a complex, center-less, open-ended system. CON: Books may take you away, but they force you to come up with your fantasy. The Sims give it to you without much mental exertion.

I LOVE this game!

I own this game, and it is a great collection to all the other many counsel games I have. I love it! :) It's a favorite, along with Kingdom Hearts.

Unlike the PC, I think it has great graphics, and think it is a great idea to have 2 player mode with the "Get a Life" mode.

It's an easy to control game, as long as you know the controls well. It is fun to control these lifes, make houses, and make your own little world. You can achieve goals in the Get a Life mode to get items not available in PC, play 2 player on mini games or on your neighborhood. When playing 2 player on neighborhoods, though, you may get a little competitive on who gets promoted quicker than the other, though! lol

This is a great game, and you can play for hours, as I know I do. The only thing I wish it had was places for your sims to visit, like you can in the PC version. This PS2 version also does not have as many items as the PC version, or anything from extension packs. On the PC, I mainly like the pets, and being able to go places, which you can't do on the Playstation. The only pet you can have is fish. :(

Still, this is a great game, and hopefully there will be another Sims for the PS2.

I'd like to think of myself as an expert on The Sims. I first discovered this groundbreaking and quirky game after playing SimCity. I bought The Sims game and let me tell you, there is nothing funnier then watching all these mini people walking around doing your bidding and getting into trouble. When I found out The Sims was coming to Playstation2, I immediately went out and bought it.
Firstly, the game was finally transferred to 3D! This in itself is a HUGE improvment, as I always felt the original PC game's graphics seemed a little dated. The camera is as smooth as it gets, rotates beautifully, and zooms without a hitch. The graphics were revamped, with a great mix of items from expansion packs and new items exclusive to the console versions. The character selection screen allows for as normal or as crazy sims as you can dream, and playing other modes besides get a life unlocks new character selections such as hats, new clothes, and accessories. As well there are many new features to keep you occupied, two player mode (unlockable), the original neighborhood play (unlockable), and even a two player cooperation mode (unlockable) where you must work together to advance.
The sounds were a direct port of the original game, so if you were hoping to hear new Simlish sounds, forget it. However, if you don't mind the same language and sound effects, then you'll like that they are crystal clear, and dare I say it? They sound even better then the PC version.
This is no ordinary port of an already well established and incredible game, it adds more of the things you love from the original. More items, more characters, more games, and of course more antics from your sims! If you love The Sims (and who doesn't?!), this is a definate pickup for your console.
I gave it four stars because although overall this is a great game and the controls smooth, they may cause younger gamers a bit of difficulty. Also I feel gameplay may have been better advanced by adding a feature from the original game, the autosave on exit.
I cannot tell you how exasperating it is on leaving your game for the night and reloading the next day, you find all you've done was lost because you forgot to save! If the game were to add this small feature, many a long mission would have been completed sooner... Of course, this is a minor gripe when compared to the smooth gameplay, ease of use, slick graphics, and overall fun of this game. If you didn't want The Sims on PC, buy this game NOW! You'll get all the fun and addictiveness of the original and so much more.

SUMMERY

Gameplay: 5 of 5
Graphics: 5 of 5
Controls: 4 of 5 (may cause some gamers trouble)
Sound: 3 of 5 (lack of originality)
Overall score: 4 of 5

The Sims is very fun. I think it should be rated 4*'s because you can play forever but sometimes it gets annoying to have to unlock everything. You should listen to me too because I have every Sims game. I LOVE THE SIMS!

One of the best games ever. I loved this game and i've beaten it a million times.(Not that it is easy) It is an addictive game that you can play all the time and never get bored. The graphics aren't the best, but the game makes up for it by being so fun.The Neighborhood mode is great, too. You could play with 4 people.(if you swich off controllers) A standard for all Sims games. It is also a very simple and fun game and pretty realistic. I loved this game and recomend to buy it and play over and over again. Fantastic!!!

Very Nice; Of course not the best in the world.

I've had this game for a couple of years now, and so I have played this game a lot. I had a little trouble with picking a star rating for how fun it is, because I would give it 5 stars, But since a lot of gamers prefer fighting or shooting games, I gave it 4.
I'll tell you about the three basic modes to play in this game:
(Get a Life, Play The Sims, Bonus)

1. GET A LIFE.

In get a life you can create a character and begin to play in a series of levels. It's sort of like an expansion pack, I suppose; because it's just like the original sim games except you'll be moving in with roomates, throwing parties and completing goals, and living in an already built neighborhood. Start by living under your nagging mom (Your an adult and have not moved out yet) and once you complete your goals you can move into a better house up the street. Move in with others, throw parties, make money, and at the end of the game you supposively retire with two kids in Prep school, married, and a bunch of money.
Also, in this version of The Sims, you need to unlock some of the objects in Get a life mode so you can use them in Play The Sims.

2. PLAY THE SIMS.

If you've played the original version of The Sims for the PC, then you'll find that this mode of the game is quite similar. Some of the original families are already moved into the neighborhood. Only differences is that you have more options to choose from, you cannot build on a second story house, the cursor is also harder to use at first.

3. BONUS

For this mode you can play two- player. You can unlock these by playing get a life mode. You select characters, then usually where ever you go (Museum, night club, ect) You usually try to make freinds or money.

Huge disappointment

I'm sorry, but this game can not compete with the PC version(s). The 3-D graphics lose a lot of their coolness by being so dark and indistinct. I agree with the reviewer who said that you couldn't zoom in close enough to get a good look at the graphics. The unique features (Get-a-Life mode, two-player mode, etc.) don't compensate for the un-user friendly Buy and Build functions. Being a devoted Sims fan, I expected more. Either rent it first or buy it used. It's not worth the [$].
