Not bad

I've had the game for a couple of weeks now and am overall happy with it. As many have mentioned, the pro to the game is that the graphics are 3d, and they added more text bubbles, a few more items not in the first Sims game. There are more options at the beginning when you create the sim(s).

One note-Get a life is harder than I thought, pretty time consuming effort. Although unlocking the classic game isn't difficult, it's available after you move the second or third time.

Now for some gripes. The control scheme is okay, but it's tough at times to get the wall paper on. For some reason if you're not paying attention it will get put on the opposite side (ex if you're wallpapering the kitchen, you might find the wall paper on the outside of the house instead of the inside wall).

The biggest dissapointment I had was not being able to create 2 story houses.

Also the save files are huge. Something like 1.3 out of an 8 mb memory card.

Last complaint-the fastforward slow down option, unlike on the p.c. you only have one level, and it's harder to activate. You have to keep your finger on R2 the whole time. It's automatic when everyone in the house is sleeping.

Some of the extras they threw in were pretty funny, especially the "Vibrato bed" and the options you have with it.

If I had to make a reccomendation, I'd say overall the PC version is better, mainly due to the expansion packs. On the other hand, with the PS2 you never have to worry about not having enough memory or the right graphics card.

If you have the pc versions and are looking for something new this might satisfy you. Despite it's downfalls, it's still pretty fun and time consuming. 2 player mode is a plus (one of the scenerios has you competing to clean the maid's house-funny stuff).

Better than the PC game

After many hours of playing the PC version of the Sims, it started getting slower and slower, especially as I added more expansion packs. I don't know about everyone else, but I was getting really frustrated having to wait so long every time my sim did something. It also got fairly boring after there was no more challenge. (By now, everyone knows all the cheats)In the PS2 version, not only is it much faster, but with the Get A Life feature, you have specific goals to complete, and it's a lot more fun with the challenges. (plus, I don't know the cheats!) In conclusion: if you liked the PC game, you'll love this. The only frustrating thing is that it is pretty much the original sims. no downtown, vacation island, pets, superstar things, etc. that's the only problem tho. and you can't zoom very much. XD!

Caution! Highly addictive game!

Of my 30 or so PS2 games, I have to say this one was by far the most addictive. I spent untold hours living in "happy sims world" and played the game through 3 times in "Get a Life" mode and twice in "New Neighborhood" mode before finally putting it back on the shelf, though it never collects dust for too long before someone in the house takes it down to play again. It takes a while to figure out all the ins and outs (first time trying to move out of mom's house I died 3 times before getting the hang of it). But once you get going there is no end of fun. Whether playing the "Get a Life" part of the game or building a "New Neighborhood", you will have hours and hours and hours of fun gameplay. HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!! The more you play with your sims, the better you get at building a successful life for them and building the perfect dream house for all their many sim needs. highly recommended!

My Sim and Me

You start the game by "Getting a LIfe" and from there, it is all uphill. After decking your sim out in whatever apparel you wish; i.e. 'male or female' facial hair, glasses; is my sim lazy or outgoing, energetic or shy? It finally begins with your newly named Sim living with his dead-beat mom in a broken down house.
After finding out that your mom will not help with anything; you have to start attaining certain goals; i.e. borrowing $800 from your mom, getting a job, and moving out. From there you just jump from house to house, accomplishing various goals and getting promoted, and along the way you will throw raging parties, play strip poker with a member of the opposite sex and take many many showers.
There is also a few two-player games; the first one I played was The Museum, where you have to con certain well-dressed individuals into giving you money to 'pay back to culture'. The game was okay, it was hard to see what was really going on; and since it was only 10 minutes, you didn't get to con much money...but if you do play it, be the woman.
You can also start out in a house and just buy better houses as the money comes along; but right now, I am just working on bettering my Sim, which is work enough. Though this game is slow (it takes about 25 minutes to get from the bathroom to the kitchen) it makes up for it in indepth gameplay...don't expect to get too far to fast; but I recommend it for everyone and anyone...especially those who spent days on building the perfect Sim City.

A not-so-fun time

The PS2 version of the Sims is sorely lacking in the refinement and playability that made the PC version such fun. The inability to download limitless skins and items certainly works against Sims for PS2, but the killer is the game control. On the upside, they added a "goals" section, so at least you can feel like your hours of play are toward some end. Overall, though, this is a small and hollow shell of the game the PC version is. If you're die-hard on getting it, I highly recommend a dry run from the Blockbuster. That should cure you.

The PC version is better

I owned the PC version before trying the PS2 game. The only reason we tried it (thankfully it was a rental) was because I wanted to try to play it with my husband. We were both really disappointed and only played for an hour. Once you are used to the PC version is hard to play this one. First, it looks really dark and I really didn't like the graphics. It was hard to see what your sims wanted on the little clouds that come up above their heads (my TV is not that small, it's more than twice the size of my computer screen). It was really frustrating to get used to the controls, especially when it was time to build (building is my favorite part of the whole game). In terms of the two player game it was not what we expected. I would stick to the original version of the game. It's an alternative if you don't have a computer at home.

I brought this game when it first came out in January last year and I've always been a fan of The sims. I found that the sims for the playstation 2 when I first played it was a unique experience in its own right yet it made me long for more in dept options. I knew that once it was ported from the pc to the consoles it would be watered down, but I didn't know how are how much until I played. For anyone who hasn't played a Sim game it's a blast and a thrill in it's on worth, but for an experience sim lover it leaves a little to be desired.

A wonderful game... if you didn't play the pc title

The first thing that you should know about this game is that if you have the original pc game (and based on sales figures, most people do), than this game is propably not worth getting.

The 3d graphics aren't the best i have ever seen (there's alot of jaggies) but they are very modern looking and clean.

Although you definately have more camera options than the pc game, one problem with it is that you can't zoom in to a sims-eye-view as i would have liked, but it is much better than the shoddy, fixed angles of the pc game.

The gameplay is nearly unchanged from the pc game, but if you disliked the pc games overly-open-ended style, there is a new Get A Life mode that will propably please you, But its pretty hard.

As for the sound, they did a pretty good job of tearing it from the pc game, which gets on my nerves since i have been playing that one for so long.

And in the end its a clear decision. If you have the pc game dont bother with this, its just not much better. But then again if you haven't bought the pc game, this is a great buy. And one more thing is, if you bought the pc game and didn't like it becouse it had no crear gaol then this is worth a rent to figure out if the new mode works for you.

Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 7/10
Replay: 10/10
Fun: 9/10

OVERALL: 8/10

The sims on playstation 2...never thought that i would see the day! I have always had an interest in the sims, and was excited when it came out on the playstation 2 platform. There are a few small flaws in the game, but overall I was impressed with the way that the game turned out. If you bore easily, this is not the game for you, half the time your sim pisses himself getting out of the hottub. they get distracted very easily, and do not interact well. The biggest flaw in the game was that the sims speak giberish, as in all of the games. I sort of want to hear what they are saying. This game is a good buy for all you sims fans out there!!

ADDICTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a blast playing this ... I started playing The Sims for PS2 for the first time at the Game On exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. Then I borrowed it from a friend - still can't tell if that was a mistake or not. This was while my now husband and I were planning our wedding, and we'd find ourselves spending hours playing this game instead of doing what we were supposed to be doing. In fact, we'd get so wrapped up in making our Sims shower, eat and go to the bathroom that we'd forget to do so ourselves. Still, I thought this game was pretty fun and amusing ... my husband and I now sometimes speak "Sims" to each other --- "Snoo Snoo" --- but I would definitely recommend not playing unless you have ALOT of time available because you'll find yourself incredibly addictive.

Oh and someone else mentioned this, I can't see/read the little message bubbles when my Sims are trying to tell me what they want ... that's a bit frustrating.

But I still like the game!
