First, I would like to say that Eric Thomson is a total moron. These graphics are not so-so. The are incredible.

Now that that little misunderstanding is cleared up, let me tell you, Jak & Daxter is one of the best platform games for PS2. The levels are really big, and really fun. The plot is really cool, too. You embark on little mini adventures for different people, which keeps the game moving. Please go out and get this game right now. And remember, Eric Thomson is a total moron.

You really can see the quality with Jak and Daxter: it's fun to play, it's paced really well, and it allows you about as much freedom as a "quest-based" platforming game can. I loved it from one end to the other, and even went out of my way to beat it completely.

You can see plenty of reviews that will give you the story--let's instead take a look at the gameplay. Jak & Daxter is a "platformer", meaning you spend a lot of time jumping up and down on various stair-step parts of each level. The monotony is broken up by side quests: for example, helping a farmer herd cattle, or shooing pigeons away from a series of monuments.

There are also changes to gameplay: "end bosses" that require you to crack the pattern to beat them. There are "riding" stages where you're on a small skimmer, and even these have diversity: sometimes you're racing some bad guys, sometimes you're racing the clock. Last, you collect "Precursor Orbs" as you go, which you can trade for Power Cells, the core collectable of the game. Precursor Orbs are hidden all over the place, as are Power Cells that don't need to be bartered for--they're just waiting to be discovered. It's not easy, but the important part is, when you fail, you know why, and you feel driven to try again, just one more time. A good game makes you really feel like you've earned something that's hard-to-get, not like you had to wrestle it out of the programmer's hands. You don't have to collect every Precursor Orb, nor do you have to find every Power Cell...but if you do, you get a special ending to the game.

Probably the most important point to Jak and Daxter is that little "E" on the package: the game is rated "E" for "Everyone", and it truly does live up to that claim. It's hard for me to find games that I can enjoy, and still share with my 8 year old daughter, but she loves this game, too. It's unfortunate that the second game went in the "T" (Teen) direction--it just doesn't seem right for Jak to start using shotguns and rocket launchers--but at least we have this one, and I would recommend it for the whole family.

For the record, I played Jak & Daxter on a PS3. It ran extremely well and has no glitches or hangups.

Very fun game!

Jak and Daxter is a really fun game but its a little confusing. Unless a character on the game tells you what to do or gives you a certain goal to reach like in the beginning of the game when you have collect 20 power cells. Because after you cross Fire Canyon, you ask yourself, what now?
But Jak and Daxter is a really fun game, it has great graphics and there is alot of fun stuff to do. So its really worth buying.

This game is awesome! The characters, environments, effects are all top notch. This is the game you put into your brand new PS2 to show off to your friends. I have been playing this game non stop for the past 2 days. The more you play it the more you will like it. If you are into platform or adventure games at all then you will definetely want to check it out. It is the only game in this genre on the PS2 that has gotten me this excited.

A pretty good game...

This was the first game I got for my PS2. I loved it in the beginning. It had all the things I wanted in a PS2 game. It was easy to figure out and fallow along with. But it got a LOT harder in the end. It was like I couldn't do anything to beat it(the part I'm talking about is after you collect the somewad amount of power cells that you need in the beginning). I just gave up then. About 2 months later i started to play it again. Well, since I hadn't played it an a couple of months, I stunk big time. So it was even harder for me. Now I'll probably sell it at GameExchange. I suggest now you get the sequal "Jack II." Like I said in the begining, "A pretty good game." So I rated it 3 stars.

Great Game!!!!

theres no game for the ps2 right now not either rachet and clank going commando or rachet and clank not gta vice city or resident evil that even comes close to jak and daxter. its quite simply the greatest platformer to date. and the reason why is because it combines the beautifal pleasure of many classic platformers and combines them to create an expereince like no other. jak and daxter itself is the definition of a platform game and unqeuistonably the greatest platformer of the last 3 years. wow graphics are superb the detailed animations would resemble that of something seen in either an art museim or a painting. wow there mezmorizing thank you sincerly naughty dog. the gameplay is completely 100 percent fun. you go around catching these eggs and powercells in a vast number of wonderful envirorements. wow the characther animations are excellent concealed down to perfection. complete with breathtaking scenery flawless animations and a perfectly executed plot. if youre a fan of platformers you will love this one to peices. overall jak and daxter is a platformer concealed down to perfection. and while the the battleratings between rachet and clank and jak and daxter still emerge i say theres no comparison.
