Great gameplay, but needs story.

Lets get this out of the way-'Galaxy' is the best platformer in years and I wholeheartedly recommend it for great family fun. 'Galaxy' has consistently fun and fresh game play that getting the stars will be a pleasure. The only problem here however, unlike the awesome Zelda, theres not much in terms of story. The peeps at Nintendo seem to have only focused on game play and just threw in some quick story accessible from the game's "reading room". Ten, twenty years ago this was fine because games weren't art, but today's great video games need more than pitch perfect game play which is what 'Galaxy' has at the very least.

Awesome game play, but forced 'add-on' story is not acceptable today in video games. 'Galaxy' is great fun, but thats it- no hilarious dialogue or much in the way for story. Nintendo has to focus more on story if they want to get the sales numbers it deserves(Halo).

Buy 'Galaxy' because its fun. If you want something more like a story you simply wont find it here which in this new day and age of video games is simply not enough. Step it up Nintendo!

Very Cool

Surprisingly awesome! Bought this for my 7 yr old son and he took to it like a duck to water. The 3D view is outstanding. As an adult, I have a hard time putting some of the realms into perspective. My son has no trouble at all, in fact, I think it challenges his mind more than other games. The camera angle follows you quickly around the planets. Planets are round remember, so Mario is always right side up so the camera is rotating the planet and universe around you.

I'm a childhood fan of the Mario game franchise. I'm not a true "gamer" - but rather an everyday guy who plays for the sake of the occasional amusement - to settle the soul - relieve some stress - waste some time.

It's clear that Mario Galaxy is the best I've seen - a blend of the Zelda style quest and the standard Mario lore, this game is a perfect 10.

If you buy only one game for the Wii - - - Mario Galaxy should be it.

Mario Galaxy yay!

I have not played Super Mario 64 because I didn't have a N64, but I did play Super Mario Sunshine; this game is much better than that!

Super Mario Galaxy has a long intro, but after that it's mostly gameplay! The set up for playing different levels is similar to the past 3D Mario games, you have several different locations and a few different missions for each location.

The problem I had with Super Mario Sunshine was that every place seemed the same and the missions were very similar. Collect coins, clean sludge, and clean some more sludge all in the same tropical location against the same enemies.

Super Mario Galaxy however has a variety of worlds to visit with a variety of enemies. Not to mention the shape of the worlds.

Each "Galaxy" is a set of round or irregular shaped planets that can be walked on from all sides. The planet levels reminded me of Sonic Adventure 2. It's a relatively unique level design although it sometimes is difficult to know which way to move the joy stick.

This seems to be an essential Wii game. It uses the Wii controls, it is cute, easy to play, and it is long enough to provide lots of game time.

so much fun

This game is so addicting! It seems like it will take forever to beat...but that's good...more fun. Really neat concept - every galaxy has it's own "feel". Definitely a must-have for Wii owners.

I bought this for my 5 year old and I will admit to sitting and playing with him. The graphics on this game are incredible. It is a lot of fun. Great eye-hand coordination needed. I love it and so does my son. lol.

Another awesome Mario Game

As I tell my daughters, I've been playing Mario for DECADES. I really thought that I would never be able to play such a 3D game, but it's so much fun.

And the nice thing is that if you only have 15 mins to play for while, it STILL LETS YOU SAVE. Such a nice feature for a busy mom that still wants to have fun and play with the kids.

My girls are always asking if they can watch me play this game. "Oh, alright, but only if you are good for the rest of the day!" Ha Ha!

I must preface with the fact that I am not a huge Mario fan. I did not play Super Mario Sunshine, and feel I missed very little, but did enjoy Mario 64 and a couple of titles on NES and SNES. It is apparent that Super Mario Galaxy, even to non-Mario or even non-Nintendo fans is a masterpiece on so many levels. The graphics are the best currently ot for Wii, including shader and physics systems, the soundtrack is impeccable, and the gameplay is intoxicatingly fun. I was not particularly excited about SMG when I first heard of its impending release as I am a huge Metroid fan (Prime: Corruption is a fabulous game as well). Even though the game can be enjoyed by young children, Nintendo has always made games that appeal to both kids and young adults and that is a difficult feat to accomplish. I only own three Wii games (SMG, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Zelda: Twilight Princess) because the number of horrid third party titles for the Wii is frankly disgusting. SMG is either my favorite title or in close competition with Corruption. The storyline isn't particularly strong, but it doesn't need to be, because the game develops so cohesively as a wonderfully entertaining experience. Nintendo has always made great AAA games and SMG is truly a marvel. The only game I'll be playing more is Super Smash Brothers: Brawl upon its release.

I would reccommend this title to casual and hardcore gamers alike. There are virtually zero imperfections and the gameplay is so addicting it's very hard to put down. I think any Wii owner should own all of the AAA Nintendo titles, and this is certainly no exception.

Though many naturally think of Nintendo as a great hardware designer, Nintendo has also consistently shown it knows how to be a great game design company. Super Mario Galaxy is certainly one of the jewels in its crown. You can obviously get the jist of the game from the hundreds of reviews preceding this one, but the only way to really appreciate the graphics, UI, puzzle, and game world mechanics design (all woven together with a common backstory) is to play the game.

Speaking of UI (user interface) design, I love the Co-operative mode, which allows my wife to play along even in a casual manner. And since the Co-op mode is entirely optional, a partner can leave the game and rejoin at a later time.

As a gamer who is mostly into FPSs and RPGs on the PC, I was not expecting a lot out of this game, but I was pleasantly surprised!

I have been a Mario fan since the first Nintendo gaming system came out, graduating through Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube. Mario can be counted on to be 'family' friendly fun. This game definitely lives up to the Mario legacy. You'll find a lot of the old characters, yet upgraded to a new level. And the twist of gravity on the different planets is genius. This is a game that is fun to play with (or without) your kids. Mario Rules !
