I am a big fighting game fan, but the beauty of this is, you dont have to be. It is simple enough for a beginner to catch on in minutes, even my GF can play with me. The online 4 player blasts are chaotic fun. Must have hands down. If you own a Wii, you are just being silly and mean to yourself if you dont this too.
Imporvements over Melee, still not the original.

I'm an avid fan of nintendo and the smash bros franchise, so this review is based on the history and quality of how this game compares to it's predecessors.
Graphics: *****
Sound: *****
Gameplay: *****
I was very pleased to use the gamecube controller again, as adding wii motion support to this game would result in epic disaster. Controls and gameplay were kept the same and consistent.
Pros: Slightly slower gameplay than melee, making it more like the original title for n64. Final smash moves add extra element to the game, however they are very cheap and unbalanced. Many new game modes and options. Extensive record keeping system to view all of your stats and human battles. Better graphics and many more sound tracks. Decent selection of new stages and characters. New items to broaden gameplay.
Cons: Some classic characters moves were altered. Mario no longer has his tornado down+b move while standing on the ground, instead it is replaced with the pointless, damageless, FLUDD pack. Epic mistake on nitnendo's part, as mario was my best character and I used the tornado move often in the original game. Also, link can no longer infinitely strike with the sword combo, he only slashes 3 times. Subspace mode, while fun, is also excessively long, and shouldn't have to be done to unlock things. More things should be unlocked by beating certain modes with certain characters, rather than subspace mode and redundant play on minigames like target test. Could have had more classic stages and better new ones, I felt there were not enough hardcore duelings stages, instead they were sacrficied for wario ware, pictochart, 75m, and other relatively bad stages. Needed more original NEW characters. Example they took away Dr. Mario who had mario's moves and replaced it with wolf. So now we have 3 foxes instead of 3 marios. They need to stop duplicationg moves and make original move sets for original characters. We don't need 3 foxes and 2 marios. Ness and lucas not only are the same they also look identical for the most part. I don't understand. Make original, not same old with a new look.
The cons listed above are minor and do not affect the gameplay. The game still is solid, and a step above melee. Hours of fun wrapped up for multiplayer action, with a fair amount of decent stages and characters to play from. Not a huge fan of the trophy / sticker collection as melee had 290 hard earned trophies while this game has over 500 and they are tedious, not necessarily challenging, they went a little overboard on that.
Pick this game up, it's a must have for any fan. This is probably the best of the series, however I'm not sure how much is left for nintendo if they make a 4th game, it seems they are running out of ideas. Melee was a huge step above the original, but brawl isn't as big of jump. Enough said, the game is very fun and almost flawless. Pick yours up now.
Can't say but my hubbie likes it a lot

So, I'm not a gamer in amy sense and my husband hasn't had a Nintendo system since the late 80's early 90's (poor guy) but I got him a Wii and this game for his b-day and he loves the nostalgia of this game. He's downright giddy when playing.
nintendo does it again

great game. lots of depth. controls easy to learn. Sometimes the screen moves a little too fast for me, but that could be signs of my aging. good work, nintendo!

My husband and four years old son love this game. It has become the new household favorite. I couldn't beat the price or the quick delivery. It was just what I expected from Amazon, a great company that offers great products.
Great game but how to save your stages ?

Great game and wonderful graphics. May not be compared to xbox or PS3 however, I am pretty happy with it.
One disappointment is, whenever I start the wii, the game starts from beginning. It does not save when I left off. May be its my mistake to search for saving button on the wii. I am a little new to wii system. So will figure out eventually. Otherwise its great.
Excellent Game!

In short, Nintendo has made another incredible SSB game.
I would, personally, say that it has lived up to the all the hype it got in development.
When I got this game, I played it for about 3 days almost constantly. Even after all of that, I still play it at least every other day, and still haven't unlocked everything that it has to offer.
I wouldn't quite say it's better than Meleé, but it is definitely an equal to it.
I still highly recommend buying Meleé. =)
Here's a really brief overview of the game:
Characters:
With respect to characters, it has a nice wide variety of characters, and replaced some of the "clone characters" from Meleé (like Roy) with a similar character, but with different moves (Ike).
Young Link has now become Toon Link (Windwaker style), and Wolf O'Donnell was added to the Star Fox team. Don't forget Lucas from Mother 3 joining the battle with many similar attacks to Ness. The returning characters have very little changes. The main one that kindof upset me was that Peach's notorious Exploding Hip Thrust thing now just blooms out in hearts instead of exploding. It's much less satisfying to see =)
Stages:
With respect to stages, there is a fair amount of variety. The only problem that i have is that many of the stages are kinda small and simple. Nonethless, there are some larger ones, and remain fun. Besides that, you do get some (and have to unlock a few) Meleé stages such as Hyrule Castle, Big Blue, etc. Another cool extra they gave you is the stage creator, where you can make your own stages. Nothing super complex, but nonetheless, it's alot of fun to make them and play them. Music plays a big part in stages, as you can choose what songs to play in your own stages you make, then you can change the frequency that certain stages will play certain songs. Very cool.
Unlockables:
New addition to trophies, is that you also earn stickers. You can get the normal trophies, but stickers are another collectable that randomly appear in the gameplay. Not quite as exciting as trophies, but still fun to collect, and needed if you want to unlock everything. Another thing you get to do is to collect music, which appears during gameplay as little CD's on the ground. Pick 'em up quick, as they go away quickly. There's like 300 songs to collect, and you only start out with around 100 i think. So you got a ways to go, better start early =)
Single Player:
Returning is Classic Mode, and All-Star, with very minor changes. No more races in Classic, just target smash. All-Star's the same, just fight every character. The new thing is called "The Subspace Emissary" which is an awesome story mode. Not a super in-depth storyline, but it'll unlock all the characters for you if you know what you're doing. And, it's fun to boot. Also returning are the Multi-man brawls, and Home-run contest. New addition: Boss battles. You fight bosses in the story mode, and this is like All-star with the bosses. There are about ten of them, and you get no continues. It's hard =)
There's alot more of things in Brawl that i haven't talked about, but i don't wanna ruin ALL of it. It's über fun, and i highly recommend it. It's fun for one person, or with as many as you want (there's a rotation mode where more than 4 people can play =]). I definitely recommend buying it. I recommend buying Meleé too, but since this is a review for Brawl, I won't push that one too much. Brawl = Awesomes. That's all there is to it. =)
