MOHAA Good Game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Graphics - Very Good
Sound - Excellent
Gameplay - Good
AI - Lacking

This is a great game for all of you "shoot em up" first person shooter fans. But for anyone looking for a real strategic challenge, look elseware. The graphics on this game are excellent, the flash of the guns and the bullets hitting is top notch. The death scenes are great enough that they didn't even miss the blood. The sound is also top notch. From the realistic pop of the guns to the constant screams in German, excellent. However, the AI is somewhat slow. If someone is looking in your direction, don't even think about hiding behind anything that isn't completely solid such as a wall or a box. Also, why do they run right into the line of fire when you are manning a machine gun?
Overall this is a good game and a great example of the use of graphics and sound. Anyone looking for a straight forward "shoot em up" experience, this is it. However, if you are looking for strategy, look elseware.

War...it's fan-tastic...

MoH vets will be right at home in this, the first pc edition of the classic Ps2 game. Stepping into the muddy boots of Army Ranger Jimmy Patterson it's out of boot camp (with a great advisory voice over by retired USMC Captain Dale Dye) and off to the battlefield. And what a battlefield. Jim will be taking part in many daring WW2 missions, embarking in Africa and spanning the globe to frost-bitten Germany. And yup, there's that now famous Normandy Landing to make it through in piece.

The graphics are crisp and (very) realistic, if your graphics card is up to the challenge. A downloaded blood patch will add some realistic gore if that's your thing...otherwise its just puff's of dust when you rip into those naughty German's with your Thompson carbine. The sound is also pretty involving, as bullets zip overhead, grenades go boom, and your squad mates bark orders and scream for medics. In fact its a lot like real war. Without the potato peeling in between levels.

With lots of varied landscapes to hide behind, and a nice (and authentic) variety of shooty tools to play with you'll have a blast on your first play through the game.
Sadly its a very scripted experience, and once you've pegged where that german sniper is, you'll find him waiting patiently every time you play through. This is particularly true of the riviting Omaha Beach level. The first time through you'll be in veritable shell-shock at the detail crammed into the level...from staggering out of your higgin's boat under intense mg42 fire, to the agonising crawl up the beach as your fellow rangers are blown sky high its a level that will go down in video game history. But make no mistake, it'll still be the same when you play though the next time. And the next time.

Still, there's a brilliant multiplayer game to duke it out in, with lots of diffent levels to suit the junior rocketeers as well as the wily snipers. I'd certainly give this five stars for the first time-through single player game...and the multiplayer saves it from being a one-hit-wonder. Add on the short-but-sweet Spearhead expansion pack and you've got one fine military crusade. On the ready line soldier, time to hit the beaches...

I Love it! Give it a Medal of Honor!

Medal of Honor Allied Assualt is quite possibly the best WWII game ever. The graphics are great, the gameplay is the best ever.
The weapons are even historical accurate! Get guns ranging from a
Colt .45, M1 garand, Thompson, BAR (browing automatic rifle), both U.S. frag grenade and a German one that looks like a black baloon at the end of a stick, get a Winchester shotgun, bazooka,
operate a tank, mounted machine guns, and much more.
I beat this game and was awarded five medals, The Leigion of Merit, The Norwegian War Cross with Sword, The American Campaign Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and the Bronze star.
Here are the good things about MOHAA:

Over 20 authentic war weapons.
Beuatiful graphics
The D-day mission is worth [the price].
The best war game---EVER!
Six missions
You will never get bored

Bad things:

A few graphical glitches
No blood
Heavilly scripted AI

As I said, it's a good game, well-worth the hype, the AI can do
many things, including: jump on grenades, run for cover, duck, and much more! But it is heavilly scripted, I once threw a grenade in a room with four Germans, one of the soldiers jumped on it, saving the others, but then he got up and started shooting
at me.
Overall, it's a good game the D-day mission is good, although it copies "Saving Private Ryan" way to much.

Nothing new, but a blast to play!

MOH Allied Assualt is a FPS with a WWII setting. While there is nothing especially new in the game, it is a blast to play and will undoubtably be a best seller. The game play borrows heavily from NOLF (hey, nothing wrong with that!), especially in the stealth missions and is much, much easier to handle than Operation Flashpoint.

AI is generally very good - Germans, once they see you, will hunt you down with ruthless efficiency. Your squad is likewise very crafty in taking out enemies and watching your back. There are, however, some gliches that are sometimes quite funny. In the very first mission, one of your squad throws himself on a grenade, then after it blows he gets up unharmed and continues the mission. In one of the later missions, one of the Germans do the same and gets blown to bits. There is also a dog in a mission that just gets frozen in place. Throughout the game, if you see two Germans standing around talking, you can shoot one and the other just stands there like he didn't even notice that his buddy just got wasted. Also, in the second mission, a German soldier runs THROUGH your buddy to get to you. Very funny stuff.

There are also some great surprises if you stay alert. If you line up two enemies, you can take them both out with a single shot. Very cool. There are lots of places where you can take over a German machine gun and take out entire squads (the gun never runs out of ammo!). The Omaha beach landing is awesome, but you will soon discover a pattern that allows you to beat it every time. In one mission, after you take out all the bad guys you win a medal for finding two tanks and blowing them up.

The hardest part of the game is dealing with snipers. They are well in the distance and hard to find in the rubble. Best approach is look up at your compass when you take a hit, it goes red in the direction the shot came from. Still tough, though, and requires lots of patience.

I've seen a lot about crashes in reviews but haven't had any problems on my 3-year old PC after I installed the patch from AE's web site. If it does crash, you have the option of re-loading it in Safe Mode with toned down settings.

My only complaint about the game is you have to shoot dogs to get through some missions, they coulda' just left that out without hurting the game one bit.

In summary, MOH is a real winner and well worth the money.

Great game, tons of fun

This game is really good! There's a lot of competition between WWII shooters out there, but I have to say this one is somewhere in the top 3. D-Day is a great mission, the best one. And there are other fun ones that can really challenge you. I have a lot of fun playing this game, I dont really know what all the complaints are all about. People say "The enemy seems to spawn out of nowhere", do you really care where the enemy runs at you that much? Kinda sad, but anyway, just have fun mowing them down, dont pay attention to where they come from, jeez. The last level is really a good one, I wont give out too many details, but it really puts what you've learned from the other missions to the test. Good game, good buy, not as bad as some people say it is.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault marks a turning point for historical shooting sims. The game's polished look and smooth gameplay make this title a must-have for any World War II buff (I would know- I am one). The realism of this game is incredible. This game looks great graphics wise. The utilization of the Quake 3 engine, although trailing behind the Unreal 2 engine, in my opinion, looks great. The shading and anti-aliasing work hand in hand to deliver the best possible picture. The sound is great, too- see for yourself by hooking up to 5.1 or better speakers. Of course, if you don't like historical shooters, this game is not for you. Be warned- this is not a run-around shoot-em-up game like Unreal or Quake. (Although it could be such in this game's multiplayer mode, which is a bit lax for a game with a stellar one-player mode). The game controls should be familiar to anyone who has played a pc shooter. The gameplay is great- the guns kick when fired- most noticeable in the sniper rifle, which takes a second or two to re-aim after squeezing off a round. You slow down when shot and enemies work together to hunt you down. The level of realism is very high. Weapons, ammo, and health are located in places you might find them in real life. The guns are accurately modeled after their real-life counterparts. The levels will make you think that you're really in the heart of Nazi Germany or storming the beaches of northern France. Overall, this is a great game. Between the graphics, gameplay, and challenge, this is a great buy. If you're not a big fan of shooters, I suggest you try before you buy. Otherwise, get this game! You'll be glad you did.

Best PC Game on the Market

This is far and away the best PC game out there. Once you play it, you will be hooked. The single-player is great (better than MOHFL for PS2), but it doesn't even compare to the online multiplayer. Once you play the game online, that is all you will want to do in your free time. The controls (basically the same as Half-Life) may take some getting used to at first, but you'll be playing like a pro after the first week or two. All you need is a fast net connection and 50 bucks to get your first sample of heaven.

This was one of the greatest games that I have ever played. The realism is incredible. After playing this game to the end, I watched Band of Brothers... I could not believe how historically accurate this game was. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Can't get much better than this!

I must say, I consider myself a WW2 history fanatic. I already own Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Good game, a little bit too science fiction-ey for me. Didn't like the ghouls and monsters all that much. I really wanted a true blue WW2 FPS, and this game gives me that. Very sharp, and the missions are a blast. I love the physics of the game, the weapon selection, albiet I haven't found a flamethrower yet!, and the story is perfect. If you liked Wolfenstein, you will LOVE Allied Assault. Get it, play it, love it.
