Look but don't touch

This game feels like a museum. The graphics are gorgeous, but you are not allowed to interact with them. For example, you'll be running through an abandoned house. You take a moment of pause and shoot everything in your surroundings. Nothing, I mean nothing breaks. Even glass bottles can withstand your bullets. All right, so the windows do break. But not without A LOT persuasion from your Tommy Gun.

In my experience, this game feels more like an interactive movie. It relies heavily on scripted sequences which you can nothing to influence. Basically, 3d cut scenes. In one sequence, I tossed a grenade at some soldier's feet. Someone shouted, "Grenade", but my buddies kept talking. Boom. They still kept talking. You can also tell which soldiers are scripted by shooting them. Talking soldiers just take the bullets, extras have their helmets knocked off. Yes, you can't kill your "band of brothers". I've tried. :)

The graphics are fantastic, and the sounds are marvelous. Outside that, its really just a simple shooter whereby you follow a linear path that kills you if you deviate from it. The AI is pretty weak. Also it utilizes 1st person shooter cliches (aka, barrels explodes, complete the objective then face a mass of nazis, where there is lots of health, there are lots of baddies, etc.)

Still it's a fun "ride" (think of the same interactivity as an amusement park ride) which really has no replay value. I would honestly call this a renter if it were a console game. Or wait until its price gets lower. 20-30 is a good range for this.

Alright game made worse by some awful levels

Yes, the graphics and sound are great. Yes, SOME of the level design is awsome (the first mission being the best). But it gets bad fast. First the realism is REALLY lacking. Enemy soldiers take one bullet to kill while you can get shot as many times as you want as long as you get "healing potions" and "first aid kits". Second, in the later levels the gameplay is reduced to playing though each section twice. Once to see the placement of each sniper, and the second to kill the now spoted sniper. This is nessisary because the Enemy can shoot you through trees, floors, doors, walls, you name it as soon as you show as much as a toe. While this might not seem bad it is because it takes ALL stealth away from these missions. No point sneaking around, the snipers will see you as SOON as you appear (sometimes sooner). And the snipers NEVER miss unless you are close to them. Oh, and a word to the wise. NEVER break the sequence of the game, it will stop working. Example: on the mission you have to escort the downed pilot to the resistance I ran back down the hill before the truck full of soldiers came attacked the church. I shot them from behind, and went into the church and killed the gaurds. I then click on the altar-thingy to open the tunnel out when it says "all objectives not complete". What happened it the AWFUL AI in the game stopped the pilot from following me. When I broke sequence the AI decided to shut-down and he just stood on the hill like an ass. Soooo, I did in fact beat it by using the "pushing" him into the church. When you move next to a character he will move aside for you, so i ended up herding the pilot into the church to beat the level, LOL... My last big complaint is the AI. Not at all what it was made out to be. To make up for the awful AI, scripted events take place to supply a endless stream of soldiers. Take for example the macine gun nests, when you shoot the soldier behind it anouther will take it's place. Just for kicks I say and shot 150 soldiers before running out of ammo. And this was in the middle of a field with no reinforcements. The game will do things like make enemies apear right behind you. Make enemies re-populate a house after you clean it out. Magically apear whenever it is least convinent. Arghhh, the bottom line is this. Great sound, graphics, multiplayer (away from the AI and scripted events), but baaaaaad gameplay.

Ending a major dissapointment

The game has some interesting missions nad features, but the final mission is nearly impossible to beat. I have read several walkthroughs and reviews and they all say the same. It is only by sheer luck that the final mission can be finished. It consists of planting bombs in a building and escaping before it blows up. Unfortunately, by the time you make it to the door, too many enemies are there to kill you. If you stop to shoot them ,you die in the building explosions, if you run outside, the enemies simmply shoot you full of holes before you can board the train. ther were also several problems with freezeups and installation, overall a major disappointment in gaming

Seems designed by some kid

If you're supposed to be some kind of secret agent why do you need to anihilate an enetire German army per level? Maybe it's just me, but my idea of a WWII James Bond isn't a guy that bursts into a heavily fortified German military base with a big bad ass machine gun massacrating everything in his path. This doesn't make sense and it seems like some random kid designed the game.

Avoid

Just another shot 'em up

I give 5 stars for graphics, 3 for sound and none for realizm. No one person could possiblly do alone these missions as the game unfolds. It starts out good as you are a member of a fire team and all are working together, but then after that it's you against the entire German Army. This game was not what I expected after reading all the reviews and above. Kind of reminds me of the game DOOM.

My Bad

This game runs super slow and the graphics and gameplay fall well short of Castle Wolfenstein, which runs beautifully on my system. Hoping the actual game will run properly, because I've always thought that the Medal of Honor series is pretty nice.

Above is my original review after only playing the multiplayer demo... After playing the single player demo, however, I must admit that my original assumptions were incorrect. Though I feel that the graphics still fall a little short of Wolfenstein, the more true-to-life style of gameplay more than makes up for it. Though not entirely realistic - i.e. being able to walk w/the scope enabled and carrying over 100 lbs of equipment/guns, but it's still all good... highly recommended.

Neat WW2 Game

World War 2 is finally made better than it must have seemed! This earns only 4 and a half stars because of how complicated things get. That's the beauty of this game! It has great graphics, realistic, life-like battle scenes, and violence. Just like that movie Black Hawk Down, but it is different. How, you may ask? Because, this was in Germany. That was only in Africa. The beginning of "Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault" is almost like you're in Africa. *Shrugs*. I don't know. It's Germany anyway, but you won't find Hitler anywhere soon. Maybe he shot his eye out with his Red Ryder 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle, so you don't have to kill him. Oh well.

Apparently, I had already played another awesome Medal Of Honor game before, when I thought it was this game.....I was right. It doesn't need blood to be a good army game. It just is. The graphics are cool, the battle is cool, the weapons are cool, the projection room you go into to review a mission after you've completed it is cool....

THE WHOLE GAME IS COOL!

Maybe this is a bad first review... but simply looking at the screenshots of this game make me cringe with amazement. Realism anyone?

Won't run more than 5 minutes on recommended hardware

This would be a five star review if only the program would run for more than 5 minutes. I'm running on a 1GHz P3, 256M RAM, ATI Rage 128. The demo runs fine but the full program doesn't like the video card because it keeps causing it to send an invalid signal and I have to reboot. I have the latest drivers. I don't have this problem with any other games.

If you have the same video card as me, I don't recommend this game.
