If you own a PS2 then you probably own this game, it is an essential purchase, and the best yet in the GTA series.

I started buying GTA games back when GTA1 came out for the playstation, at the time I loved it, but after a while I got bored of it, and in hindsight it was a bit c**p. The top down 2D view and ridiculously slow frame rate ruined the game completely, I didn't even buy GTA2 or GTA London. So fast forward to 2001 and GTA3 comes out, I hadn't seen any reviews of it so thought it would be c**p just like the earlier games, until I saw one of my mates playing it. Obviously it was completely new and different and I bought it straight away, since then the GTA series has been one of the best game series around.

Anyway San Andreas tops them all, firstly because of the sheer scope of the game, it is at least 4 times the size of GTA3 & Vice City, and includes massive areas of countryside. The Plot is also the best yet, set in 1992 it owes a lot to great 90's films like Boyz N the Hood. The soundtrack though is amazing, I know Vice City had more diverse music, but if you like early 90's hip-hop, check out Radio Los Santos, it just plays classic after classic. As a result of this game I went out and bought the following albums,

Dr Dre - The Chronic
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
NWA - Niggaz4life
Ice Cube - The Predator
Comptons Most Wanted - Music To Driveby
Eazy E - Eazy Duz It
The D.O.C - No one can do it Better
2Pac - 2Pacalypse Now

And thats just the albums which had tracks on here, as a result of buying those albums, I bought a load more as well, mainly thanks to this game.

The only minor problems with San Andreas are the targeting system, and the combat options in general, which are still a little limited. The missions are also a little monotonous at times, but there are so many distractions it doesn't matter, you can take time out to have a bet on the horses, or go on a killing spree in a redneck village, you can do pretty much anything. Replay value is limited, but you'll get so much life out of it playing through the first time, it really doesn't matter. I can't wait too see how they top the scale of this game on the next GTA game.

Everyone knows this game is awesome.

We bought the PS2 version because our PC version had a lot of glitches and eventually stopped working all together. No problem whatsoever with this version.

a great formula wins again

rockstar sure knows what their fans want. freedom, the sweet freedom to do (almost) whatever they want. and this is exactly what this game offers its players, as well as a good storyline and gameplay way better than the rest of the series.

first off, i'd just like to say that the coolest new thing in the series/this game, would have to be freefalling from a plane, or a helicopter, or a fighter jet, or off the top of a skyscraper. you can just fall and fall and fall, then you pull your chute and poof, magic, and you can glide to the cement safe and sound. or, you could be a little masochist and don't pull the chord...

the graphics are imporoved compared to vice city, but that's not saying much. sure, the sun glaring in my eyes, blinding me, and the cloudy mountains and all those cool trees and rivers, yes, they do look cool. it's just that these games' graphics are blocky and rough, mostly the people. but it's a style that rockstar i'm sure meant to contrast to the violence of these games. and i'd also like to add, in response to the MAVV "review", what the hell are they talking about? they said that all the women in this game are naked, and after beating this game at 42 hours and one minute, i saw not one naked [...]. there might be one in the strip club, behind closed doors, but i never visited that place, i had too much fun riding through the mountains and evading cops in the desert.

that's what these games are about, giving the player freedom to do what he/she can't do in real life. or, they can, but it would be illegal. if these stupid, un-educated MAVV women would open their eyes for once, they would see that if they keep shielding kids' eyes from violence, these poor children will just become another statistic. because, they didn't know what gangs were, they didn't know not to wonder into dark alleys, they didn't know about the war and how it is changing our country, they didn't know the effect of violence and it's stupidity. i remember, from being a kid, that whenever my mom would tell me i couldn't watch a movie, because it wasn't the type of movie for me, i would want to see that specific film more than anything. and somehow i would always get my hands on it and watch it, and you know what, sure it was violent, but i'm not murdering people. in fact, i've never killed anything in my life, there is nothing i hate more than real life violence. and videogames are not real life violence, they are entertainment, just like movies and books, they put the same stuff in our heads as history books and films do, so why haven't kids been killing people since the dawn of literature? who knows, some people just aren't right in the head, and whether or not they play violent videogames shouldn't matter. but of course the only people that will read this and see it for what it is are people that agree with me. fellow gamers.

but enough on how much i despise the MAVV, and onto the game.
sorry about that.

the replay value of this game is outrageous. during your various missions, you come across a multitude of side-jobs. including: truck driver, vallet, delivery boy, car-exporter, gambler, pimp, figure-8 racer, mountain biker, pilot, tagger, gangster...i can't think of any more right now, but you get the idea. and this game is freaking massive in size, especially when you're stuck in the middle of the desert with no vehicle and miles away from a road. it's a long walk. and now, a cool new feature, you can swim. and it's pretty fun. but one thing i noticed is that earlier on in the game, before you unlock the rest of the map/cities and areas, if you swim across the river to the next town before you are supposed to, you are automatically hit with a 4 star wanted level. i don't know if rockstar meant for this to resemble the whole illegal alien crisis, crossing the border, but that's what it seems like.

i can't say much about the story, it's pretty much like all the other games. you are the hero/antihero, you get screwed over, you meet a bunch of interesting people, you do cool things, justice is eventually served in a badass manner. you get the idea. you even have a mission where you get to fly back to liberty city (the city from the first game). unfortunately you only get to be in one place when you get there.

the new stat thing is alright. like the ability to be fat or fit. you don't really need to eat food, just keep excercising. not many new weapons, if any at all. and i also found this game to be a helluva lot easier than the last two titles. though in some parts, you can get a little pissed when the game doesn't let you start back at the part where you died; you have to start waaaaay back at the beginning of the mission. that irritated me the most.

well, that's about all i have to say about this game. so if you haven't bought this game yet, do so, or be in the dark about all the cool new gameplay features in this new title. oh, and i made a mistake, skydiving is the second coolest new thing, the first would have to be the bicycle. it's really freakin' cool, if you don't agree, you are a fool. just kidding, but really, buy this game, now.

A Classic

This is my alltime favorite PS2 game, every now and then I'll just pull it out and play it for a bit just because it's so enjoyable. I'm going to hit on a few points that make this such a great game.

Story:
You are Carl Johnson(CJ) you come back to the west coast after spending some time on the east coast. From start to finish this ia a incredibly deep story.

Graphics:
Obviously not spectacular now and wasn't the best looking game when it came out, but Rockstar has never really relied on super spectacular graphics to make GTA games what they are.

Sound:
The voice acting is funny to say the least when the gangsters are conversing and besides that this game has an awesome soundtrack. You can find hilarious stuff when you flip through the radio stations aswell.

Playability:
This is a very playable game. It doesn't take much to learn the controls. Most people don't like the targeting system but I actually think it is very solid for it's purpose.

Entertainment:
If you've played this game you know that this is one of the most enjoyable games ever. Even if you don't follow the story you will have a blast playing this.

There's not really much else to say except that if you haven't picked this one up already do it now.

this was a very fun game

This was the best GTA game ive played out of all of them, this one had more better stuff like working out, driveing a train, swiming, and more great stuff to do. This was a ghetto part of GTA witch was alright i still enjoyed it, it was'nt just about killing people you could do more better stuff in this game then the other GTA games, but GTA1V came out and thats a preety decent game but really kinda the samething, in this one you can work out and become buffed why could'nt they put that in GTA1V but this game was fun.

The player gets the PROFOUND feeling that they have been tranposrted to a real living breathing early 90s California (and Vegas) world. A world full of opportunity, music, humor, and danger. It feels so real sometimes that you'd swear that unknown, possibly dangerous, activities are taking place all around you whether you're playing on that street or twenty blocks away. No other game has ever been this ambitious and this successful at reaching it's goals. Halo, for example, is a child's tinker toy compared to this.

must have

The End of Video Games

Years ago the world had good video games. There was Super Mario on the NES, Pitfall on the Atari 2600, and plenty of great games for the computers of the day (MS-DOS, Apple II, and Macintosh).

Now we are stuck with games where you have to kill people to win. You have to resort to prostitution to win. Worse, this franchise has sold millions. Am I the only one sensing that moral values are gone in today's society?

I've heard of ten year olds playing this game. We wonder why there are so many troubled kids in today's society. Why there are so many teenage pregnancies. Why tragedies like Columbine have to happen. Everything can come down to the awful video games like this one and those first person shooters (Halo, etc). This stuff is causing a steady downfall.

I used to play a lot of video games. Mostly ones like Super Mario and the sports games. I've just been so frustrated by the industry lately that I don't even play them that often. I haven't held a controller in over a month now (as I write this), and that's coming from someone who has rated other video games very highly. The trouble is that you can only do so much with baseball or Mario. After a while you beat the games so many times that you need a new challenge. When something like this comes up on a shelf, you just want to run and go find the nearest source of morality.

Parents, don't fall into the trap. This isn't just a racing game. This will make you want to throw that Playstation out the window, or at least sell it in the newspaper.

Kids, don't let your friends call you stupid for not having this game in your library. You go spend quality time with your true friends at a place like the food court or Abercrombie & Fitch while the others are at a video game store playing this demo and then buying it. Remember that you will have stronger morals than them and you will be happier in the long run. Most guys who play these games get obsessed with them. It's not a cool thing to sit in front of a TV and pretend you're a gang member. Oh yeah, and girls don't like it either.

The developers of this game should be ashamed of themselves and go take a page out of Cliff Johnson's book--he wrote the excellent puzzle game "3 in Three" for the Macintosh many years ago, and sometimes I despair the world may never see another game like it.

an extended vice city

Ok...sure the game is bigger, but it is the same exact thing as vice city, with minor changes. I thought this game was insane, until I realized how long it would take me to beat missions that were exactly like the rpevious two games. I go to a friends house who is on the third island and...OOOOOHHHHH mission where you pick someone up on a mountain and drop them off at a hotel! WOW! Anyway Halo2 is a much better game and it made me realize how this game is poor.

When I first played this game, I got bored in 10 minutes. All you do is shoot and kill people for nothing, have the police chase you and you shoot them, Bring girls into your car and do it with them. I dont recommend this game at all its overrated.
