Not what i hoped not even close

before i get started i have to admit im not the biggest fan of grand theft auto. but rather just a fan of vieolont action games. however i did appreciate vice city and gta 3 was ok. im definitely not the type of person who looks down on video game vieolonce as i enjoy it myself but san andreas is diffrent. no its not diffrent in that it has more vieolonce langauge etc. ive played manhunt and the suffering and i wasnt offended. its diffrent in the fact that its just not that good of a game. now please dont discount my reveiw as bigated or anything and ill try to adress my complaints so that you the reader can give contex to my reveiws and or opions. the major gripe i have with the title is the lack of gameplay troughout it. a lot of the game you are forced to backtrack. thats only if you fail the missions and beleive me the missions are so tough you will try them over and over many times until you finally pass them. each time you fail a mission you will be forced to drive back to the person who assigned you the mission and then drive to where the mission actaully took place. in a lot of cases you will drive aimlessely for 10 to 15 minutes doing multipart driving affairs only to fail again and have to go trough the same hassle. the missions range from easy and simple to complicated and are in some cases extremely hard to the point of being frustrating. sure the other gtas are hard vice city was tough and gta iii was outwardly insane. but adleast those missions took place in cities where if you died it wouldnt take that long to backtrack and get started again. san andreas is not one but three colossal cities and the countryside in between them. when you get in the countryside it really gets ridicolous sometimes youll have to drive trough the entire countryside which is HUGE and into another city to start a very tough puzzle mission if you happen to fail and theres a good chance because the game is so hard than you have to make two trips back to the mission instructor and then back to the miision bothtimes going trough huge amounts of land and taking FOREVOR in the process. in a special note there are also tons of little frustrating puzzles i constantly found myself saying why do i need to do this? suffice it to say if you enjoy pure action games DONT BUY THIS GAME! the autoaim system has thankfully been cleaned up since vice city but its still rather frisky. sometimes you will be aiming to a gang member in an incredibly intense shooting mission only to have your gun aim and track something much less important like a passing pedestrian. avcourse you then get shot relentleessely and die because youre being crazily outnumbered anyway. but suffice it to say when you do die it wont be as easy to get back to where you were as it was in vice city or gta 3. san andreas uses a lightly updated version of the graphical engining of vice city and as a result it looks roughly the same as its predecessor. its not that the game is outwordly ugly but it defginitely needed improvement it didnt get. however take in consideration the massive amount of veichles. pedestrians. landscape buildings and foliage that can be seen at one time and all is forgotten. on the plus side if you liked the do anything you want aspect of grand theft auto youll love the non story elements in the game that have nothing to do with beating the game but rather having some fun that the story mode lacked. any veichle can be jacked and any person relentlessely torn apart. youll have plenty of weapons like rifles. grenades. handguns. pistols including silencers. sniper rifles. rocketlaunchers. projectiles. shotguns. submachine guns. knives. daggers. baseball bats. flower pots. and more. if for anything that makes the game adleast worth a rental however its not nearly as satisfying as the pleasure you cant get from nearly ANY shooter. unfortunatly the posotive aspects of the game are buried under the fact that theres nearly as much backtracking here as there is gameplay maybe more. it should also be said if you work and have a family and want a qaulity gameplay expereince do not get san andreas. you will not be able to put up with the frustrations it provides you. only get it if you have hours and hours to try the missions ovcer and over and over agin and backtrack every second youre not playing them. the graphics and sound are also left untouched meaning theres no deeper of an experinced to be found here than in vice city. in fact if you compared san andreas and vice city vice would come out in eveery category except size of the gameworld. and even though im more of a fan of shooters such as halo goldeneye and half life i admit vice city was a fun game. even if you disagree with me please dont say i wasnt helpful. i did my best to provide a clear and informative reveiw and simply dont want anybody to throw 50 bucks down on something that will give them more frustration than pleasure. unless you are a die hard fan of gta or simply have so much time that you dont know how to use san andreas is nothing more than a rental option.

Who cares what color the main character is! Damn America there have been 4 titles and no one has ever wrote a reveiw about the main characters of the previous series being a white guy. I really don't stress out on this type of stuff until somone shows there ignorance by not judging the game for it's playability versus it's color choices that it uses on it's characters! I am just glad that Rockstar was not affraid to step out of the box. Hell if the main character was green I would still buy and play this game until I couldn't play it anymore, simply because all of the GTA games have been good ole fashion fun to play! I am pre-ordering this game I suggest you do the same if you are a real video game junkie and a real GTA fan, there series just keep getting better, but if color matters, go join a an extremist group so that you can be labeled a domestic terrorist and not have the right to play an ousutstanding game.

Most real-time & entertaining game to hit PS2.

This game has been out for a while. And I have been playing it for a long time now. Have I ever had a boring moment while playing GTA: SA? No... I honestly have cherished every moment of gameplay. Why? Because this game has so much content and capability, that it is not possible to dislike this game if you have actually sat down to play and appreciate it. People giving GTA: SA low ratings must be joking.

CONTROL - Superb. When I want my character to do something, he does it, no questions asked. If I want to fire a gun at an enemy, I get to fire the gun without having to put up with errors or jams. If I want to hop in a car and take off, I get to do just that.

CONTENT: This game is a vast improvement over even GTA III. There is so much to do, that it is impossible to ever get bored. Every second is entertaining... there is always something to work on and/or improve. Challenging missions are everywhere; and if you don't want to do missions you can go lift weights, build up your muscles... or you can go put some neat features/colors on your personal cars.

RADIO: Good stations that have songs that cover just about any genre.

GRAPHICS: Of course there is always room to make graphics better, but the graphics on this game were very good, despite there being so much on the disk. This game covers everything, and there is never really a let-down.

If you haven't bought/played this game, I suggest that you do. It is worth every penny, and will keep you entertained for accumulated weeks at a time. Good luck!

The best GTA game yet!

The popular Grand Theft Auto franchise started years back with a little top-down crime-spree based game with a small cult following. But now, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is a household name. The hype that built up before the release of the 5th saga in the GTA series - San Andreas - was unmatched, and even when it was released, people were STILL blown away by the depth and entertainment this game provided.

In the 5th chapter of the GTA series, you start off in Los Santos (Los Angeles). Your character, Carl Johnson (C.J.) is a member of the declined Grove Street Gang. As you and your gang try to rebound from years of neglect and betrayal, you partake in drive-bys, beating up drug dealers, meddling with crooked cops, and it's never been more entertaining. The portrayal of south-central L.A. in the early-90's is extremely accurate, and the dialogue seems very true. The story will keep you on the edge of your seat, and the voice acting is another strong point, with help from MC Eiht, and Samuel L. Jackson as the crooked cop. As you progress through the story, you unlock two more cities (San Fierro (San Fransisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas) along with an extensive countryside that separates the cities. The game map turns out to be the size of about four Vice City's - very impressive. After about an hour into the game, you'll find out that there's TONS to do in GTA: San Andreas. You'll need to make sure to keep C.J. in shape by visiting the gym every so often, and you'll need to pay visits to the fast food restaurants once in a while as well. You can further customize C.J.'s clothes, hair, cars, etc. - all these little things add a surprising amount of depth to the game.

The graphics on San Andreas make the most of a dated PS2 engine. The frame rate slows down a bit occasionally, but for the most part, it looks great, especially when you're driving extremely fast, you get an EXTREME sense of speed. The soundtrack, containing music from the early-90's as appropriate, isn't as impressive as it could be, but that's just peanuts when you're talking about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - arguably the best game of 2004. Although the dialogue and some situations are extremely profane at times, it's all good when you think about the south-central L.A. context it's in. As Dave Chappelle would say, "Better not bring yo' kids!" That's right, don't play this around the little ones, and don't forget to sleep, eat, and shower because you'll probably be enjoying this great game for a LONG time.

Biggest Video Game Ever

First off, if you are a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc., looking for a good gift to give a child, this is NOT it. The game contains way too much explicit language, violence, and sexual innuendo to be suitable for kids.

However, if you are an adult looking for a great video game, this is quite possibly the best video game ever made. It contains aspects of just about every video game genre out there, including racing, driving, shooting, fighting, RPG, sports, extreme sports, even the dancing/rhythm genre. If you have ever played any games in the Grand Theft Auto series, San Andreas is more of the same but on a much larger scale. Whereas the previous two games in the series had you playing within one large city, San Andreas is an entire state containing three large cities with a lot of wilderness and stuff in between.

In addition, San Andreas adds more RPG aspects, such as the ability to transform your character's appearance by eating food, working out, and changing clothes.

If you own a PS2, your game library cannot be complete without this title. It is definitely worth the money, as it is estimated that more than 150 hours are required to do and see everything in the game.

The Facts

Being that the game has not come out yet, I cannot rate it. But I'm sure that it will be as entertaining as the past Grand Theft Auto games. My complaint is the $50 price tag; are you people aware that it costs Rockstar Games less than $5 to produces these disks? Of course, most of the cost is in the development of games, but with GTA, as with Madden and NCAA franchise, most of the conceptual premise is already there, so the cost of those additions have lessened every game. I know these games are fun, but these corporate entities are taking all of us for granted and for suckers.

Also, there seems to be some racial overtones to many responses to GTA-San Andreas. First, let me say that for those who say they are tired of being told "it's cool to be black", tell that to the 20 innocent blacks that were killed by police in Cincinnati and Denver alone since 2002. This is a perception created by conservative media to reinforce racial stereotypes and to further divide people on race rather than discussing issues that matter. A better and more realistic way to look at it is that "it's cool to make millions of dollars off generalizing and stereotyping black culture." Furthermore, those comments by those saying that they wished the lead character wasn't black have the right to be made. In fact, a very small percentage of reviews are of that opinion so there is no need for all the outrage for antiquated (old-fashioned) rhetoric. Of course, I am happy that blacks are being included in the killing spree that is GTA. All races and ethnicities should have the right to kill and mame in video games. Look for GTA-Baghdad next year with a guy named John Shrub going on a bloody, murderous rampage in late 1980's Iraq!

I was getting pretty sick of paying 50 bucks for games that I
could play through in one or two days ( or not play at all like Half life 2 ) when I bought San Andreas. This game kept me busy for three and a half months, and I still only completed 96%. Though not a great game overall there can be great moments.
Driving slow thru bad guy turf at night,in the rain,Patsy Cline on the radio. Ahh memories, memories.
