dude..... this should be a great game, but i mean whats up with everyone upset about the main charecter being black??? I mean come on people are you that shallow? I dont care if he's green, gta kicks ass.

Should Be Amazing, Genre Defining

Rockstar has used the previous Grand Theft Auto games to redefine the action genre. The storyline is substantially larger than previous titles. While GTA3 took place in Liberty City (New York) in the 1970s, GTA:VC expanded the playable area in Vice City (Miami) in the 1980s. GTA:SA takes place in California and Nevada in the 1990s, and, for the first time, allows you to travel between three major cities (Los Santos (LA), San Fierro (San Francisco), and Las Venturas (Las Vegas)).

Some of the new features in this game are:
1) the ability to ride bicycles, combines, and many other new vehicles.
2) swimmming! No more flailing and drowning!
3) Driving between the 3 cities, through hillbilly country
4) Can physically alter your character with tattoos, haircuts.
5) You are what you eat: you can gain and lose weight!
6) Flying airplanes, from remote control to jumbo jets

I really am enjoying this game, having played well over 50 hours and completed less than 70% of it. The main storyline takes well over 30 hours to complete, and that is only if you don't do any of the side missions (taxis, ambulances, pimping, firetrucks, vigilante, trucking, etc.)

The storyline is very involving, and your character has more depth than earlier games. (Heck, in GTAIII your character couldn't even talk!)

Great fun for adults, but pushing the PS2's limits

Here's my final review; I've left my initial review intact below. By the way, I'm now in the $0.50/hour range for game play.

This game largely lives up to expectations established by the two previous games in the series, and exceeds them in some important ways.

I would now give the game 5 stars for fun, 4 for overall (because of the graphical limitations presented by the PS2).

Parents of children and even early to mid teens--please don't buy this game for your kids. It's not for them, it's a game for adults...that's why it's rated M.

My copy of the newest Grand Theft Auto should be coming in the mail today from Amazon, so after I play it I'll give a "real" review. In the mean time, I will review the price of the game. As with nearly all new "prime" Playstation games, this one is going for $50.

I read one review stating that $50 was too high of a price to charge for this video game. I disagree. Consider this...when you go the the movies and pay $8-10 for a two hour show, the price comes out to $4-5 per hour for your entertainment.

If you use the statistic of dollars per hour, Grand Theft Auto is a bargain. Consider the following:

If you play... ...you pay
2 hours $25.00/hour
12.5 hours $4.00/hour (same as a movie)
25 hours $2.00/hour
50 hours $1.00/hour
100 hours $0.50/hour

It is no exaggeration to say that most folks who buy this game will play it for AT LEAST 25 hours. That makes it only half as expensive as going to the movies. Many other folks will play the game for 50 or even 100 hours, making it seem dirt cheap.

Here's another way of looking at it:

*If a concert (avg. price $50) were as cheap (per hour) as GTA4, it would only cost $4 to see Usher, Hillary Duff, Mos Def or Sum 41.

*If a day at Disney World ($55) were as cheap as Grand Theft Auto, it would only cost $20. (Think about it, though. Much of your ten hour day is spent waiting in line for attractions or waiting in line to spend more money for food or games. That makes it even more expensive.)

*If a day gambling in Vegas (let's say you bring $300 and go home with $150) were as cheap as Grand Theft Auto, you'd only lose $20 instead of $150.

I could go on, but I've probably beat my point to death by now and besides, I need to go check my mail box again...maybe it's here now.

This is another reason why video games should be banned.
You play as some street punk who MURDERED HIS OWN MOTHER. Hmm, would I want to plays as a lousy high-school dropout, or a talented plumber like Mario? Wait, Mario has violence in it too, so...

I bought this for my son as a birthday present. We loaded it into a PS, and all we saw was violence, violence, and more violence. Video games are for kids. Stupid people like Rockstar should stop trying to corrupt them.

This game is an enemy of good morals. We teach our kid about honesty, and nonviolence. Then we see this heap of junk.

Do not buy this game, and send a letter to the president saying that it should be banned!

Don't See What Makes This Great

Many teens say that this is the best game ever created. I don't see why. The graphics are very poor, and the audio was just horrible. The voice actors, obviously, are not good at acting. The cars a all just about the same. The only thing that separates them are their appearance. The cut-scenes were poorly done. The game is definitely overrated and cheesy. There is no way this can be considered a great, let alone good, game.

One thing that immediately reveals itself is the cheesy graphics. The least they could do is try to make the environments look realistic, and the people look like people. I know the game is limited to the standards of a Playstation 2, but they can still do better than that. If they can't even get the game up to standards, how can it be considered a great, let alone good, game?

The game play itself is poor. Instead of making something challenging, them make it simple. They have created this stupid target lock thing so that you do not actually have to aim at the target. It also almost eliminates the possibility of missing. This also makes beating people easier. You cannot lose the target, so if you get knocked down, it is easy to get back up and start fighting again. Videogames have been around for a good amount of time now. I think the videogames need to be harder these days. Not easier.

Of course, beating people and killing them is illegal. So the game thinks that a police officer would immediately open fire upon a person if they saw the person attacking another. As you continue to commit acts of violence, you wanted meter goes up. All this means is that the number of police officers running around on the ground, trying to kill you, will increase. Eventually it seems that everybody in the world has decided to become a cop and try to kill you. Everywhere you go, there will be cops. Every car on the road becomes a police car. Its like every police officer in the world comes to get you, and remember that you cannot escape. They'll always be waiting somewhere. Usually everywhere.

The audio was just terrible. The gun shots sound like little toy guns. The voice actors don't like to try to at least sound as if they were in the game. In fact, it sometimes sounds like there is some feedback coming from the microphone. Very impressive... NOT! They could have at least tried to do a good job with this game that so many people say is great.

So this game that people like to cheer and rave about, especially High School students, is actually a very pathetic game. Its poorly acted, poorly writ. There is hardly anything entertaining about it. Going around and being a jerk for now real reason. At least Mafia is doing it in the spirit of good films like the Godfather.

Entertainment = 4.8/10

Favorite Part of the Game = That's hard. One thing I did like was that you could steal a bike and ride around on that. That was pretty goad. I mean a motorcycle.... Not a bicycle.

this game is just plain bad. The graphics are much worse than in vice city or in gta 3. there are 5 rap stations and only 1 rock staion. i was looking forward to playing this game. it was such a let down. thank goodness i didnt flush 50 bucks for this worthless hunk of overrated plastic. i rented it first. its about worth as much as a landfill. which is where this thing belongs. the swearing is just annoying. real gangsters probably dont say mother f*ckin b*tch as much as they do in this thing. you also can only steer with the anolog sticks. and there is no option to change it. the graphics bring me back to the days of the games pong and pac-man, except those were good games. please dont waste your hard earned money on this game. i hope this message gets to Rockstar* so they can fix it.

Well, its truly exciting.. I personally cannot wait for this game to be released. But i can't understand why people are saying they have played this game and people telling everybody what to expect. No one has played this game yet (well, not unless your working on the game lol.) And its not right to tell people what to expect, because nobody knows what to expect, for all i know it could be just prancing aroung on a pogo stick shooting butterflys with a water gun, none whatsoever information has yet been released on what to expect from this game yet, except for its title, "GTA San Andreas". And it being released october 19 '04. So, until there is more info released from rockstar or take two, i don't see how anyone would want to waste there time reading these bogus reviews, actually there more like preveiws not reviews, but not knowing what at all to expect! So, good luck to you all, and when there is more info released on the game when its due date is closer, i'll be happy to read them!

This game looks awesome!! I loved GTA 3 and VC. I'm glad this game looks must more realistic. And I think it's great that the main character is black. I'm a white teenage girl, and I have no trouble with it, so why do other people? Anyways, I cant wait for this game!!

I'd rather give it 10 stars

Now to the game. This is definitely gonna be the coolest game ever. I mean Vice City was tight but this looks even better. It's good to see that the usual mobster storyline is mostly gone, and now it's gonna take place in the projects, where gang wars are currently taking place. I will definitely try to buy this game, and if I don't have enough cash, I'll try to steal it because this very well may be the greatest video game ever invented.
