This game was terrible.

I have played dozens of games and this is by far one of the worst games I have ever played. To start off, the story line is incredibly slow and boring. Sometimes things are not explained fully and instructions become confusing. The characters are silly, too. At one point in the game, Max, the main character, meets up with this cowboyish/western kid who has this incredibly fake accent and, to me, it just makes me think of what the point was of putting such an unoriginal and boring character into the game? This character just adds the slow and annoying process the story line proceeds in. I mean, what were the creators thinking? Sure, Dark Cloud 1 was pretty good, but the sequel was just ruined. Also, this sequel doesn't really tie into its prequel, as far as I can see. The only reason I am giving this awful, boring game one star was because of its amazing graphics. It has incredible graphics that you will be in awe of. If you just buy games for their graphics, this game is for you. In short, the plot is silly, the charcters are unoriginal, and the story is slow. This game is childish and should be meant for young children. Even if this game is rated Teen for violence, there is hardly any. One guy dies, a few people are intimidated and beat up, and a few enemies are killed, but that is about it. This game is terrible so don't waste your money.

too easy

I'm not a kid, and this game was too easy for me. Someone with quicker reflexes and nimbler thumbs would probably think it is laughably easy.

I do like the RPG flavor *without* the turn-based combat -- I just do not like turn-based combat -- but playing for four hours without getting killed is a sure sign that the game is just a little too easy for more mature players.

A bit dull for my taste...

I don't think I'll actually end up finishing this one now that Xenosaga is out.

From my perspective it's quite similar to the first, and the changes were pretty minimal. The thing I really hated about the first one was the way the dungeons would go on... and on... and on... with no variety or letup. This one isn't much different, although they do occasionally send Max on a little quest in the middle. The battles are typically boring, just like the previous game, and there's very little strategy involved. The boss monsters have been laughably easy so far.

The golf game (sorry, "spheda") would be pretty cool if there was an opportunity to practice, but since you have to defeat all the monsters on a level to get one round it's just not worth it for me. I find fishing in video games less fun than fishing in real life (I rather dislike real-life fishing), and the fish races are bleah yucky too. I'm also not a big fan of hidden treasure hunts (oh, I need to make so-n-so my friend, but I don't know who so-n-so is so I have to wander all around town asking everyone...)

The story's far too predictable, sort of a rehash of several recent RPG themes thrown together with some Dark Cloud specifics added. I couldn't possibly care any less if Max ever really finds his mother... or about any of the other characters for that matter. The time travel thing is pretty much gratuitous, and I don't see that what you do in the present actually has any effect in the future--except that it determines how "complete" the future is (if you get 100% complete in the present then the future is 100% complete too, but placement/color/size/type of buildings etc. has no effect whatsoever). They could've changed "time travel" to "magic portal" or "teleporter" and it would mean just as much.

I'll give it three stars for the effort, but that's probably at least one too many. It's a nice-looking game and the game engine's very versatile, but I don't think the gameplay is anywhere near decent and the story needs some serious major help. Maybe kids'll like it.

I played dark cloud 1, I wasn't that impressed. Dark cloud 1 lacked story, good characters, fun dungeons, it was horrible. This game pisses me off in some ways but is good in alot. There are so many sub-quests to do. When I say sub-quests, I mean like uhhh, mini sort of extra things you can do to enhance your gameplay. You can combine 3 pictures to form an invention. You will probably spend hours trying to find out combinations and get so frustrated that nothing works, but its alright when you do get one. Also, you can fish, which is pretty cool because you can do things with the fish. Or even build up your weapons, but still, that is not too fun. But there is still one major area the game lacks in, thats dungeons. The dungeons are all the same. Every level of the dungeons is an exact replica of the last one, with one new monster and different paths.

Overall, its a renter. You will not finish it if you rent it probably, but I have not beaten it yet so I can't be sure. Just remember, if you want to fight in the same dungeons over and over and over and over, this games always on the shelf!

AS an avid gamer This Rpg has by far been the best buy I could have made. In htis game You play the character Max Who overhears something he was not supposed to and then embarks on a quest to find his mother. Along the way he meets a young girl by the name of monica whose timeline has been destroyed.
Teaming up Both max& monica set out to rebuild the future. Controls are a bit tricky at first but become easy after about an hour of gameplay. As the story progresses you gain other abilities to rebuild towns and cities giving you considerable power within the game to customize it to your preferences.

Mixed bag of fun (female reviewer)

Dark Cloud 2 has every thing I look for in a video game. Its nonturned based, has cute charachters, the ability to create things and lots to do, maybe to much.
Though the load times are incredibly short they get repetitive when you have to go back and forth between places so much. This coudl have been made easier by showing the entire game as a line chart when moveing around instead of the map, don't get me wrong the map is pretty, but it gets tiresome. However if you domt mind a few extra clicks and seconds its nto a big problem, I don't mind it enough to actualy not buy the game because of it. Thats my only compalint about the programing and design itself. The graphics are wonderfull. especialy if you are an anime fan
The music in the game is all so verry cute, but gets verry reptitive, as it does in most games. How ever this music seems to have three main movements in each song so it seems like more music then it is, helping it stay fresher longer.
During the game you have to build up origin points, or basicly make towns, this is the point in the game where the extra click between places gets to me. Buidling the area is fun, woudl be funner if you didn't have all the conditions placed on you though, so you have to save your suplies. This low point is actualy a high point in disguise, once you have all your origin points restored but still haevn't conqueared the game you can visit your towns and add all the litle things you want to ( as long as you dont disrupte the things you have to have).
On the subject of the goals given to rebuild your origin points, it's all gues and check as far as I can see. You build and hope it says soemthing changed, with out a walk through I would have never been able to figure out what in the world I needed to do.
Now on to the meat of the mater. The game play is great, lots of action and keeps you on your toes the whole time during the dungeons. The mosnters didn't get repitive, since in all most every dungeon a new monster was added or there was some new thing to do with the monsters. I only have two problems with the dungeons. You can't acuatly plot moves and learn as you die, since each time you go back in the map has changed. The second is that you dont get any health restored after killing a monster, yeah I know I'm a wussy for wanting it but I was spoiled on kingdom hearts.
Building up your weapon is another realy fun aspect of the game, you can few the weapon a step in to the future and plan wich path you want to take. You're weapon gets a new titel and look with each level you build up.
I also enjoyed the difrent costuems availble for the charachters, I wish there were more of them, I'm such a girl when it comes to things like that. I spend m ost my time in DOAX dressing up the girls. Max's clothes are verry limited only one not pertaining to over alls, Monica has mroe choices, some of wich are verry cute.
This is a great game. It looks nice, the plot is decent ( not overly complex, but interesting enough to keep you wanting to know what hapens next)and finaly it has a strong female as one of the main charachters. It's allso not overly hard, for the beginers out there like me.
