Hi! This game is awesome. The georama system is somewhat better than the first. You are able to go into dungeons, look for georama parts in some floors, and build your own town to restore the origin point. At the end of Balance Valley is my favorite part of the game. Saving Lin from the fire, and fighting that man (forgot his name) with Monica. My favorite place to build is Sindain, however. I haven't beat the game, but I intend to. I almost had, but I accidentally erased it from my memory card, and I had to start all the way over. Now I'm in Sindain on the third floor. So buy this game if you haven't. It's worth renting, plus buying.

Not quite what I expected after reading reviews....

Dark Cloud 2 is a worthy attempt to craft a fun action RPG type game.

(+) DC2 has great voiceovers for all of the characters, and has amazing cel-shaded graphics. The weapons build up system is pretty addictive, and there is no lack of dungeons. The characters are pretty cool too.

(-) The game has NO STORYLINE and its 50 hours long. Now I have no problem playing a good RPG for 50 hours, but if I'm playing I'd at least like good character development and a cohesive storyline. DC2 has virtually no real character development, and the story is the most cliched and predictable I've ever seen in an RPG. Maybe it's just because I'm hardcore RPG and have played all the best, but I have to say that storyline is a HUGE part of an RPG. The dungeons in the game are incredibly repetitive with basically the same exact monsters with slightly altered appearances. The dungeons are even worse since each dungeon has about 20 levels that all look exactly the same with the same exact enemies. Although having 2 characters might seem good, leveling up isn't easy, and resources for upgrading weapons are limited, and new materials are expensive, so you'll basically have to choose one over the other early on or end up with 2 weak characters. In particular, Monia is basically the more useless of the 2 characters. Maybe if it didn't have such a kiddy feel to it. You'd think that if it's rated T for teen, they'd atleast have adult or teenage characters that are viable to play with. After reading the reviews, I would have thought the game would be fun, but needless to say I was very dissapointed.

My favorite game

I love this game! I hate games with constant combat, so I really enjoyed the variety of activities, especially building the villages. I also spent a lot of time fishing, trying to catch giant fish for the contests and races. Improving all the different weapons was a fun sideline, too. The game was challenging, but never impossible. I can't wait for DC3!

Great Game, but drones on.....

I will have to say when I first started playing this game, I was amazed and addicted. It was creative and added features that I've never seen in any of the games I had played before. However, there is one HUGE downfall, the fighting and dungeons go on and on and on, they are not challenge, nor new, they just basically put "bad guys" in the same scenery and background countless times. It will get old very fast. I found myself playing the "drone on dungeons" just to get to some of the extra features. Aside from the dungeons, there is only one other thing I found that took away from the game...and that was the story line. The story makes little sense at times, altough the idea had so much potential near the being, it just gets shady and boring after you progess thoughout the game.

But the +'s outweight the negitives. I found my self playing the game for hours just fishing and trying to win the mini games and contests, also there are a lot of great suprises not having known anything about this game going into it. I found it very cool and entertaining that they incorporated mini games like golf, and the fishing contests. The Finny Frenzy fishing contest, is a RPG by it self. You over time can train and try to breed fish to make a trophy fish that can win any race, from fighting it out, to a speed demon.

I give the game a 3.5, worth the money espcially at the current price, but don't expect to beat it cuz you will likely get bored of the countless dungeons.

Great Game

This game is totally awesome you can make stuff with the right items of course. The garme is alot better than its predecessor in some ways your weapons brake but they don't dissapear, when you get thirsty you can't heal instead of taking life points of and that only happens like ten times only in the whole game the cons are that you have buy items to make the stuff for building the town and that sometimes its way too hard to level up. Another good thing is well its not good its great that you know what to do to build up a weapon but building up when its reaching its final forms it gets frustrating building up. All in all its a great game with a few cons but every game has at least one bad thing right.

video game crack

Although this game gets a little repetitive, especially towards the end, there is something completely addictive about it. The controls are really easy to use, the storyline is cute, and the game is huge and can eat hours and hours of your time. The really cute characters and fairly warm and fuzzy monsters are fantastically well designed, and really fun to watch and play. The levels are sort of repetive with endless killing until you reach the ends, but extras are built into the game, like Spheda, a little golf game you can play in the levels, or building your own tiny village with the loot you gather on levels, so that some of the monotony is broken up.

It's a strange combination of cute and violent, but it really works.

I can't believe I traded this game in.

I miss this game so much. Bought it when it came out, had piles and piles of fun playing it, even at 22 years old. The game does get a bit repetitive, and the monsters from one chapter to the next are all pretty much the same just a different skin. But this game is just SOOOOO fun, it has a very endearing quality to it. And now I find myself missing this game when there's nothin else to do between classes. Sports games get boring quickly....the model of repetitve gaming. One of the best games ever made for the PS2....the golfing, fishing, city building, all of it. The bad things about this game can get very bad, though it is only one or two things, but the good things about this game are very very good, and they are in abundance.

BEST PS2 RPG GAME EVER!!!!

Give a developer some more time and money and look at the results.

Wow.

I used to absolutely dis-like cel shading and was still skeptical before playing this game. This game has changed my mind. The game world is stunning. Truly beautiful. From the waterfalls to the sunsets to the town designs. Amazing stuff. Smooth animation and framerate as well.

The story incorporated into the game isn't anything special but it is great how Level 5 flowed the story within the dungeon exploring of this game.

I like the tweaks to the dungeon design in part two. Sure, they are still random, but the levels seem to flow better now. Also, the addition for the objectives for medals is a nice addition for replayability. Looks like you can get three medals for each level. One for clear time, one for a specific task, but then there is one hidden challenge as well. Anyone open these up, yet? Plus, I noticed there are now branching paths for some dungeons. Having crossed those yet so I don't know exactly how they branch.

Retooled weapon design system is excellent as well. Really like the sphere spectrum system. Then you have the all new invention system to upgrade STEVE. This is awesome. I probably spent nearly an hour taking photos of various items to get a nice pool of ideas for inventions. Two things I need though are cloth and a water tank. It dawned on me that I hardly even touched the Georama mode, yet. My favorite part of the first game. I can't wait to get cracking on it some more. The mini games are all over the place as well, including some fishing, golfing, etc. Great stuff.

Oh, and I gotta give props to SCEA for the translation and voice acting. Translation is much better than the first one and the voice acting is good. Seemed like SCEA put much more care into translating part two over the first game. The game is absolutely packed with things to do, it's looks as though you will be able to get at least 50 hours of playtime to complete everything, so it's quite a lengthy adventure. So early in the game yet my gut feeling says Dark Cloud 2 is going to go down as a classic to be remembered for the PS2 many years from now. It is exceptional. Greatly improved from the original and one of the most polished games I've played in awhile. PS2 owners should definitely get this game, and yes, even those who did not exactly enjoy the original, it improves on every single aspect of the first game and then some.

What a sequel should be

Wow.
Dark Cloud 2 has so many more little features that make the world complete and fun to explore. For example, Max can build inventions using ideas captured in his camera, there are medals to win by completing the dungeons given different challenges, there are photo scoop quests, and of course there's fishing...The Cel shading is very crisp and pleasant to see and the music is great.
Double weapon use!No cycling through 6 characters to find the one who can beat the baddie. I'm only 8 hours, 2 chapters in and wow, so much to do...Can't wait to build the towns and play with the georama.
