it's pure addiction, i tell you.

this game is beyond description. there is SOOOO MUCH YOU CAN DO. if you get bored of building weapons, go fish! get bored of that? go take pictures and invent something! get bored of that? build your ridepod! get bored of that? build your monsters! get bored of that??? play speda and earn medals!

you really just can't get bored with it. though at first look it may look kind of kiddy, you will definilty change your mind when you see how complex this game is.

and the story isn't bad, by any means.

so buy this! it's the best game i've played in a LONG TIME.

An instant classic.

DC2 is definitely the PS2's Zelda! It's a great title that combines action, adventure, and more all into one.

GAMEPLAY: Lots of things to do. I will divide all of the categories of the gameplay:

DUNGEONS: The main part of exploration. Kill monsters, find the keys, advance to the next floor, and collect treasure. Kind of repetitive, but fun. Another thing in the dungeon is the medals. Do certain things in the dungeon to earn medals where you can trade them with Mayor Need for items like a hot bikini for Monica! :) You fight as Max or Monica.

Max battles with wrenches and hammers and even has a gun. He also has access to a robot named Steve. You can buy armor, feet, and weapons for Steve to make Steve tougher. You buy them from EXP.

Monica has a sword and a wristband that shoots magic. She can turn into monsters, too. But I don't like the monster system, to tell you the truth.

One last thing. The weapons. You can level up your weapon and transform it once you meet the conditions like raising its flame or chill etc. Pretty neat.

THE CAMERA: You can take pictures when you get the camera. Look in Max's room for a photo album. The pictures you take can be used as inventions such as items, clothes, and parts for Steve. Look out for scoops, pictures of neat things. Like when you first fight Linda the elephant, take a picture when she raises her legs.

FISHING: You can catch fish, too. You can cook them, raise them in an aquarium once you invent one, and even mini-games like the Fishing Contest and Finny Frenzy.

SPHEDA: A golf style game where you put a sphere in a time distortion and earn rare treasure. Pretty fun.

GEORAMA: Collect Geostones from dungeons to build houses and things in certain areas to change the future. You can put people in the houses, also.

PALM BRINKS: Max's hometown. Lots of things to do here. You can even let people join your party to help you.

GRAPHICS: Cell shading, you either love it, or hate it. Personally, I love it. The charascters are cell-shaded but everything else isn't.

MUSIC/SOUND/VOICES: The music is quite nice. So is the sound. The voices and dialogue are a bit cheesy, though.

OVERALL: I have just beaten this game and I'm currently on the bonus dungeon where you are in a mine. It's TOUGH! This game is worth checking out.

Addicting & In-Depth

First off, the bad. The plot line.... well, it's cheesy, and pretty typical. But, the game itself is far from the typical. Dark Cloud II is by far one of the best RPG's I've encountered. You don't have to spend all your time building your character's up, fighting the same dull monsters..... but you can spend hours playing side games.... fishing (like good 'ol zelda).... or golphing.... and you even get to spend time making little villages. There's ton's of freedom in the game to do... well, whatever you want to! Enjoy!

Strong, diverse gameplay

The original Dark Cloud was one of the first RPG-like games to come out for the PlayStation 2, and although it broke from the traditional console-style mode, it mixed fun gameplay, dungeon exploration, and a simple Sim-city mechanic to create a game that never got boring.

Dark Cloud 2 is in the same vein, but it's a quantum leap forward. The graphics, story, animation, and gameplay are all clearly a new generation beyond the first game. There are some repetitive bits, but this is balanced by the sheer depth of the game. Sometimes, you'll be playing to build up your golfing skill, sometimes to work on your fishing, sometimes to enhance your combat skills, sometimes to explore, sometimes to advance the story, sometimes to build your cities. Few games have such a sheer number of fun activities all rolled into one, and each aspect is done with a light, breezy quality that prevents it from feeling onerous.

I highly recommend this game, especially if you enjoyed the original Dark Cloud.

Dark Cloud 2 is a Visual Masterpeice!

I must admit that I was no fan of cell-shading before I played this game but I found out it mixes well with the beautifully designed surroundings. The gameplay is very fun, but as most people say, it can get a little repetitive. Upgrading weapons is fun but sometimes it takes way too long, however the wepaon-breaking system has improved since the first Dark Cloud, the weapons break half as easily as before and repair powder is much more plentiful, well at least in the early dungeons. I took off a star for two reasons one....and many will agree with me on this one...was Spheda, the agrivating golf-esque game that seems near impossible to do correctly. And another was Monica's ability to transform into monsters, I was hoping for more of something like Threads of Fate style transformation, where you collect coins for a monster that is immediatly powerful for the point you are in in the game, but this is what I get:#1)The monsters completely and utterly suck when you first get the badges for them.#2)It is nearly impossible to level them up to get a newer more powerful monster, mainly because the fisrt level that it changes at is 26 and did I mention the monsters suck?#3)You never get any of the really cool incredibly powerful monsters like Dragons or Statues or Rock Monsters, instead you get things like Frogs and Balloons and Sewer Rats, and like I said they don't cool until you raise them to levels that are very far apart from each other. So I just find myself using Monica's sword to whack the monsters, well when I'm using Monica....but when I'm not using her I use the ever cool Ridepod, Max's special ability, the Ridepod is powerful and it gets new upgrades every chapter, sadly they get more expensive, but you don't pay with money you pay with the experience the Ridepod gets from killing. Well anyway get the game it's cool, but rent it first to see if you like it, I like it, I'm buying....

One word...Charming

Charm. That is what this game has a-plenty. The moment you are presented with the world of Dark Cloud 2 you will become immersed in it. The storyline is wonderful, the main characters instantly likeable, combat is entertaining (even if it lacks depth), and every single mini-game is enjoyable (and there are a LOT of them). My personal favorite is Spheda, the golf game, unlike anything ever seen in an action-adventure RPG.

I won't go on because I would just be repeating what everybody else has said before me but the reason that this game receives only 4 stars from me rather than 5 is a point brought up by many people already and that is repetition. The last few chapters of the game, mainly 5 and 7, have dungeons that simply have FAR too many floors and it gets pretty boring very quickly. I am usually a very patient gamer but I am also very ambitious in my gaming and want to complete EVERYTHING a game has to offer before finishing it. Therefore I try and defeat every enemy and do as many mini-games on every floor of every dungeon and I fear for the first time that tendency of mine has actually lowered my enjoyment of the game somewhat. So in summation, Dark Cloud 2 is a brilliant, light-hearted, charming game that is enjoyable for RPG fans and non-fans alike, even if it is, at times, unnecessarily long and repetitive.

TOO MUCH FUN

Dark Cloud 2 is the greatest game that I have ever played. It is full of an endless amount of stuff to do and the city building is just as addicting as every other aspect of the game. You can invent, fight, upgrade a robot, breed fish, or just explore Palm Brooks, the first city. You immigrate people to your city and... Well, I don't want my fingers to fall off listing everything. The storyline and graphics are astounding and, this is the best game of all time. You don't need any others. BUY IT!

I'm not seeing it

You know, I work at a job that basically blocks all sites except for Amazon.com, so I'm pretty reliant on reviews that other people have made on Amazon about books or games or whatever. I was drawn in by the reviews of this game. It seemed amazing! So many positive things to say! I had to try it out.

This was one of the most boring games I've ever touched. I found the whole camera thing super-annoying, the dungeons and fights really exasperating, and the whole game just not worth it. The graphics were good, the dialogue was fun, but really, there are just so many better things to do with your time than play this game.

GOOD GAME

This game beats out any other RPG. You can customize your weapons, ridepod (a giant robot), and you can bulid villages, too. The first one .... but the sequel undoubtably redeemed the Dark Cloud name. This is a instant classic. Dark Cloud 2 will satisfy ANY gamer

Dark Cloud entertains on several levels

I thoroughly enjoyed (and am still enjoying) this game. Like most people have already mentioned, the graphics are breathtaking. Initially, the game is a little heavy on story, but later on, the story line is spread out and provides a welcome diversion from the many battle floors. If you're not into the story, you can always pause, then skip the story sections.

This game has not gotten monotonous for me, after playing for more hours than I care to admit. I think the reason for this is that there are numerous subgoals which prevent boredom, even when replaying the game. You recruit townspeople to move to various villages which you create, you play a golf-like game called Spheda, you go fishing, and train your fish into superior racing fish. You can also take pictures of various items and enemies, create inventions from your photos, and upgrade your weapons and Ridepod (a robot that you can use in battle levels).

In summary, the main focus of the game (advancing through battle levels) is fun, but for me, the true satisfaction comes from discovering and fleshing out the many nuances and side activities.
