I recently got this game and i haven't been able to stop playing it. i play the multiplayer online and die more than i win, but it's just as fun just crusing around the areas.
Even better than X-Box version!

This game is arguably the best game for x box and the systems first real hit. This game takes a first-person shooter to the next level with its intrigeing story line and fast gameplay. The PC version of this game is much like the original but the new levels in addition to the online play makes this game an instant PC classic. I strong;y encourage every game fan to buy this game if you haven't already.
Good game, but there are better games for the PC...

Yes, you are all thinking it. How could someone give one of the "greatest games ever made" 4 out of 5 stars? Actually I would have liked to give it 3.5, but 4 is close enough. Here are just a few of my opinions:
---Single Player---
The gameplay is great, and the AI is smart which is saying a lot because not many games have good AI. The story is pretty good and it'l keep you interested. Graphics are quite nice although maybe not the best these days. Unfortunately, much of the sound could be better and some of the aliens just look lame and not quite fearsome or even dangerous for that matter. Voice acting isn't terrible but I've heard better...everyone sounds too happy like they are having all sorts of fun as their buddies get blown to bits, with the exception of the occasional one liners from fellow soldiers, which I always thought were a bit unnecessary. The objective voice seemed a bit out of place to me. The music is pretty good and it doesn't sound bad at all, but it seemed a bit to calm to me at times. For example, while storming a beach with about 10 other comrades the the music sounded like something out of Riverdance. The combat was intense, the music was not. Finally, on many PC's it runs extremely slow. I have a decent computer that runs most games at hight resolutions just fine but for Halo's single player I had to bring the graphics down to 640x480 and add the special command line to a shortcut as listed in the previous review. People say this is going to be fixed, and that it shouldn't bring down the score, but this glitch has only happened with Halo and NOT any other that I have ever played. So, in summary I'd give the single player alone four stars. It's quite fun but it might not be for everyone and there are a few glitches that will need to be resolved.
---Multiplayer---
If you like the vehicles and open terrain of Battlefield 1942 but you want faster paced gameplay in a futuristic universe like in the Unreal Tournament series, then you'll probably love the Halo multiplayer. For me, it was fun for a while but there just aren't enought vehicles and the gameplay modes seem a bit uninspired. On top of that I experienced some staggering connection problems on most servers. If you can find a fast server with a lot of people in it you will get the most out of multiplay, else it turns into a frustrating lagfest. I like the vehicles but I don't think there is much variety. Fortunately, the glitch that plagues most people's single player games doesn't seem to affect multiplayer. That's what I have found anyway. I'd give multiplayer alone three stars.
---Summary---
Halo was probably the best game ever...when it first came out. It is still quite good now, but it never really hooked me. On top of that it was supposed to come out for the PC first, but now that it has been re-worked for the PC it would seem that the X-Box version might be better. Yep, if you have an X-Box and a PC, and for some reason you have not bought Halo yet with all its hype and dedicated fans, stick with the X-Box version. Multiplay is fun but with many games already doing similar things to what is done in the Halo multiplayer, I don't think it's worth coughing up an extra 45+ bucks for.
---What I reccomend instead---
Battlefield 1942 - Has tons of vehicles, a unique style of gamepley, and nice graphics. Plenty of fast servers out there for this game, and 2 expansion packs that really do add great extra content to it. It's a WWII game of course, so maybe it isn't for everyone but it's still the best multiplayer game out there in my opinion. The gameplay can be slow at times (especially if you have to run accross the environments on foot), so if you want an intense faced paced game you might want to hold off on this one. There is a good multiplayer demo out for this one.
Call of Duty - Ok, everything is amazing about this game. It's a lot like Halo, maybe less vehicles to control but the intensity, sound, voice acting, graphics, and everything is top notch. It's single player is like playing throught a movie and your buddies AI is probably some of the best I've seen yet, even better then Halo's. It's also a WWII game, but even if you don't like that setting you will love the gameplay of this game. If you don't believe me, download the demo for yourself.
Unreal Tournament 2004 - Take Unreal Tournament 2003 and add vehicles (including aircraft) and new gameplay modes (Assault and Onslaught), and you've got what will probably be a great game (this game wasn't out yet when this review was written, so you might want to wait until official reviews come out for it :D). This game might have the most appeal to Halo fans. It promises fast paced gameplay and things to drive/fly in a futuristic universe. Will probably be the best alternative to Halo's multiplay. You can try the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo (no vehicles in this one) but you might have to wait for a UT2004 demo.

Jesus, thank you very much MS for ruining HALO. For those who don't know, Halo was originally a game being developed for PC until Microsoft needed a trophy game to launch it's XBox console. So instead of being original (God forbid) they do what they do best. They bought out a company developing a much anticipated game called HALO (the company's name was Bungie). Well, the fruits of their labor have finally paid off to the PC market close to 3 years LATER. The graphics are very tell-tale that it is a console port, the sound is like listening to an old walkman, even with high machine specs it runs slow and choppy. Thanks MS, you've done it again. I'm taking my copy back to GameStop.
Bets FPS for the PC

This review is for those poor people that are still playing the klunky style graphics of Half-Life. This game will be the answer to your prayers.First off the graphics are awesome but make sure your system can handle it.The campaign or the single player mode will be a introduction to HALO.The weapons and the vehicles will be a little confusing because there are advantages and disadvantages to each weapon. For example the Convenant (the evil alien race) have different style weapons. There weapons rely on the power core and the charge of the weapon to use it.Except the Needler which is ammo fed.The humans rely on magazines or ammo to use their weapons. Then there are the vehicles which amaze me. Again there are disadvantages and advantages to each vehicle. The convenant vehicles are a little different. They have the Ghosts,Banshees, and the heavy tank but you wont get to use it even in Multiplayer. The ghost is a light vehicle with plasma guns personally i hate this vehicle the most beacuse it rolls over too easily. The Banshees are one of the coolest vehicles in the game. It can fly! It also has 2 different weapons the plasma guns and the fuel rod which you cannot fire continuesly. The humans have the warthogs(2 types) and the Scorpion. The warthogs are a jeep like vehicle that can fit 3 people. But each person has a different job. A driver a gunner and a side seater or back up shooter. The scorpion is a tank. It moves slow but fires heavy weapons. The missile which reloads after one shot and a machine gun that is inaccurate but powerful. Youll have fun using all the vehicles. The last and maybe the very last part is the Multiplayer. This allows u to play over the internet or a host a game youself. The only con of this is that if someone has a lagging connection or if you do, then u will lag which means u will either be walking and walking but u keep going going back to where u started or u will not be able to move at all. This will leave u vulnerable to a person that can cap u in the head. Overall I give this game a 5 out of 5 and buy it on Amazon cuz i payed 50 bucks and u have to pay 40!
watch out

Halo what else can be said that other's have not?
I love the game, not the speed of play, not the FPS, not the graphics, not the other graphics cards of now days but just the game of capture the flag or team sports.
Halo has hit the mark on the spot. The ping response then frame rate the lag...does not matter I adjust and continue to play. The OBJECTIVE of what ever you select it to be is what matters.
I have some who see this game as a pawn ownership (most kills) but that is not any game in Halo, except slayer (don't play that unless you have the game hosted and one the best hardware known to man and also cheat).
The Objective is what matters and so you must achieve that regardless of your ping, or connection. This will mean you must hide, you must run, you jump, you switch weapons, you get better weapons...
That might mean go for the enemies flag, the skull in oddball, the mountain, some differently choose random spot on the map within a crown you just defend for a longer time.
It's about a goal here. Nothing else matters regardless of the splatter of text from others... If you get the job done then the chatter is just noise.

Really fun to play and wonderful location development. My only complaint would be the lack of being able to save a game when I want to instead of having to go through set accomplishments.
Looks good, plays good

Since I'm not into the multiplayer thing, I can not comment on that experience. But as far as single player goes, I haven't had any problems. The game runs fine on my modest machine. P4 2.26, 512 ram, radeon 9500 pro. The frame rate has been fine with all the settings set to the max, and at 1024x768 resolution. Having never seen the game on xbox, or actually never seen an xbox, I think the game is really good. It maybe a couple of years old, but the combat is definitly a different experience then most other fps, and just as exciting. Graphically it looks pretty good. The scenary is spectacular. It's definitly a good game.
Finally!

I first saw Halo at E3 in 1999 (or maybe 2000, it's been a while) and like everyone else at the show, I was completely blown away.
Then Microsoft bought Bungie (the game's developer) and used Halo to leverage their X-Box console, forcing PC gamers to wait an extra two years to get their hands on this game.
While I waited, my excitement waned. How could a four-year old game possibly compare with the stuff that's out there today? Dated graphics alone will leave it collecting dust on store shelves.
But man, was I wrong. Bungie didn't sit idly by for those two years, and it shows in Halo. Despite a relatively low polygon count, Halo demonstrates amazingly subtle texture and lighting effects unlike any game released to date.
Although it's the multiplayer game that will eventually hook most players with its infinite variety of challenging game types for teams or individuals, the single player campaign is worth the $50 alone. The storyline grabs you and won't let go, like you're in a blockbuster movie (somewhere between Aliens and Indiana Jones is the best way I can describe it).
The computer AI is uncannily ahead of its time. The first time I saw a Covenant trooper jump to avoid a grenade thrown at its feet, sidestep my machinegun fire as it charged toward me, then duck under my melee attack, I knew I was in for a treat.
With literally thousands of carefully placed and scripted creatures to fight, each encounter is different, and infinitely replayable. I'm currently on my way through the single-player game for the second time, and it's even better this time!
I would warn that this game requires a wickedly fast computer to run well with all the eye-candy on, and you'll need to update your drivers for your video card and such. Still, it's attractive and just as fun without all the glitzy special effects, so if you've got a system that meets the recommended specs, this game is a must-have.
