A game that needed more work!

When I first got Sim Theme Park, I thought it would be a great game. A week later, it got very boring. Unlike Roller Coaster Tycoon, everything is very expensive! A trash can, for example, costs $100! In Roller Coaster Tycoon, a trash can costs $3! Also, there's this advisor that shouldn't have been so picky! He'll say your janitors' patrol areas aren't just perfect, or one person just littered! Big deal! Again, unlike RCT, it has only four themes; one per park. I also don't like the idea of Golden Tickets and Golden Keys, which you need to access other parks. It's really hard to get things just perfect, and since everything is expensive and you can't charge for rides, your cash balance is low all of the time until five years later (in game time). You don't have a very large selection of rides, especially at the start. Overall, this game really bites the dust, and if you don't have Roller Coaster Tycoon yet, get that instead.

I agree - Windows XP kills it!

I am a software engineer by trade and while I agree that there are many variables at play with a 3D graphics game, the fact remains that it is the software company's responsibility to keep up with and comply to the different Windows and hardware platforms now available. My company does it, and any good game company will also, instead of pawning the blame on the hardware devices like EA does. The game was fun on Me, fun enough that my son was extremely disheartened when it crashed repeatedly to the desktop on XP. If you have XP, avoid it like the plague.

WHY IS IT SOOO SLOW!

I'm a fifteen year old kid who has completely mastered the "Roller Coaster Tycoon" games. They are easy and very challenging and entertaining. Any way, last christmas, my mom and dad bought this for me thinking that it would be the perfect gift. Welllll, I was so excited and I popped it right into my computer. It took about a half an hour to install, and when I finally got it installed, the game stalled for about 3 seconds almost every second. I was sooooooo frusturated. I put it back in the box and took it back to the store and told them that they gave me a broken CD and demanded that they should exchange it for a new copy of Sim Theme Park. Well that in itself wasted me about three hours. So I took it home and it took another half hour to install. So would some one pleaaasssseee tell me why the game still stalls. I went on almost every single wwebsite that dealt with technical support for Sim Theme Park. That wasted about 15 days.

My Simtheme Park CD is sitting in its box with cobwebs and dust covering it.

Great Game, But Not The Best

This is a fantastic game, 100% addictive! It's a ton of fun to control a park, and you can get to the tiniest things, (the amount of fat in the burgers, how much ice is in your drinks, and how salty your fries are. You can build rides, research new ones, buy shops and sideshows, and hire staff. It's a lot of fun. There are some problems, though. In all the time I've had the game, I've built ONE rollercoaster, because I can never seem to connect the track. And even if I do finish it, it ends up being SUPER EXPENSIVE!!! Which brings me to money. You start out with a whopping $50,000, but then you lose it! I'm not exactly sure why. One minute you're rolling in dough, the next you have two bucks. Then you take out a loan, but it's impossible to pay them back, especcially with interest! It's really easy to go bankrupt, which is a pain. Graduating to new levels is awesome, but it's pretty hard! Winning your first Golden Ticket is easy, (you need GTs to get Golden Keys so you can open new parks), and so is your second one, but after that, it's very difficult. The advisor is really annoying, but unfortunately there's no way around that. He just keeps repeating things over and over and over and over and over and... you get the point. Overall, even though it could do with some touching up, the game is a ton of fun. And it's cool to have such total control over your Theme Park!!

Buy Roller Coaster Tycoon instead

Ive tried both Roller Coaster Tycoon and STP - Plus I am a great fan of real roller coasters. This game is OK but it just isn't nearly as good as RTC. Very slow and interface is messed up. Graphics are lousy.

Get Roller Coaster Tycoon instead

Ok,

I'm a HUGE fan of Sim-stuff ... I can't get over how clever they are, how real they play out, how absolutely consuming they can be.

This product is not one of them.

It's awkward, it's punchy, and buggy. It restricts your creativity in a way that I've yet to experience in any other Sim game. You are limited to two island scenarios to begin, and they are in themes like Dinosaur, and Space Ship ... and they are VERY tiny -- not much to work with. Creative-wise, you are stuck with rides that are typical to that particular theme -- IE: your park attendees bounce up and down on a dinosaur's stomache as one of the rides. *shudder*

I think the game is ideal for children 10 and under. It's fun and quirky enough to entertain them, but it's not what you'd typically expect, as an avid adult player, from a Sim game.

Try Roller Coaster Tycoon if you're an adult fan of simulated amusement park game software (but even that gets a bit dull after a while -- it's easy to win and repetitive).

Or try The Sims, it's quite entertaining, and very well put together.

Come on, guys, this was BEFORE RTC

My Grandma bought this for me because it was on sale for only 8 dollars at the nearest Sam's club. I thought it was an AWESOME game. I actually think this is better than Roller Coaster Tycoon. Look, this was the original one, this came out BEFORE Roller Coaster Tycoon so what's with all of this complaining? RCT is a great game but it can get a little frustrating at times. This one has you're own personal guide with you that tells you what to do. There isn't just some anoying buzzing noise that goes on telling you that a customer can't find the exit or some cr*p like that. Also, I think this is VERY impressing that it was ALREADY made in 3D unlike RCT and RCT2 and it already had the option of riding you're own rides. This game is very fun and easy but it's the kind of easy/a bit challenging game. Roller Coaster tycoon is VERY frustrating and is only easy when you first start out. Come on, guys, this came out 5 years before Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and it has all the stuff that RTC3 had already. Now, this game may be a little slow but you get use to it. Also, in the front of you're park, you get to see the customers enter through busses, airplanes, [I think] boats where as RTC you just see a boring river and a boring path with boring people walking into you're theme park. These character pretty much all look different with all different faces and stuff. Also, in this game, there isn't really a tough goal or anything you have to wait to loose on. It just tells you that you get a key to another park which is just as good as completing RTC.

You think I haven't said enough? Well, in this game, you have all of these little kidey theme parks with totally different worlds [Haunted, Wonderland, Space level] where as RTC you just get a boring grassland or something and you have to jazz it up on you're own. In this game, they also give you more starting off money to get what you want when you want it. If you feel hesitated in buying this awesome game by what the others have said, ignore them and get it and forget about them. This game is awesome.

So, now you heard it from me, why don't you go out and get this game?

What you'll get is FUN...FUN.. and MORE FUN!!!

This game can be your dream come true! You can build and manage your own dream theme park anyway you like as long as it can bring in enough revenue for expansion. If every visitor who comes into your park and enjoys it, you'll feel so much satisfaction. The animation is real cute and you'll be able to see all kinds of rides and EXPERIENCE them too! How? Simply click on the camera mode and there you GO! Fun right? Just play the game and you'll be able to experience rides of a theme park at home. Oh ya... what's more? You can also build your own roller coasters!

I suggest that if you wanna play this game, go for the CD-ROM version bacause the Playstation version is more lacking. I've played the Playstation version, and it can be considered boring. So if you want the most out of this game, do go for the CD-ROM version!

Windows XP users BEWARE

I bought this game because my daughter had played it at my sister's house. She kept begging me to bring her back to her aunt's house so she could play the game. Unfortunately, I wish that I had read the reviews on this site before ordering it since it does not work with Windows XP. And the customer support site is so bad that I hesitate to call it 'support'. They give 'hints' on how to make it work on XP, but none of them worked. I tried emailing them for help, but kept getting messages that the support site had 'moved'. Since I had kept the box, I am going to send it back. I really wish the EA would get on the stick and come out with a version that can be played on XP

a very good game, but with errors

I would say this game is rather good. The graphics are nice to look at, you can ride your own rides and stuff, however, i find that this game lacks the depth that one finds in Roller Coaster Tycoon. If you are having to find a choice between the 2, I reccomend you buy RCT, and it's expansion
