My friend talked me into buying this game, it was between Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, and Quake 2, the top 1st person shooter games out. I'm so happy I was convinced to buy "Unreal Tournament" because let me just tell you that this game is AMAZING!!!! It got the highest rating ever from IGN-PC, a very respectable site, until Black & White, another AMAZING game came out. The graphics are great, the sound matches perfectly the gameplay, it's even better to play on the internet, and it is NOT easy to get bored of. The only thing I must warn you of is this...make sure you have 128MB RAM or higher (96MB RAM at the least), another friend of mine decided to get this game, and with his 64MB of RAM all he got was lag, luckily he is now upgrading to 128MB RAM, but he still loved the game even with the lag! Other than that I couldn't find anything wrong with this game! NOW GO BUY THIS AMAZING GAME!!!!

This game ran on a PIII 800Mhz/256MB/ and 4MB RAM(ATI) w/4MB Voodoo Accelerator Card. A little choppy at 800x600 though. Awesome action - came with my SB Live! - Excellent deal.

Unrealistic amount of fun!

(im not really under 13 i just did this cuz im too lazy to put in my email address)
Aside from that, UT is simply the most fun i have ever had in my life. The many game modes and weapons(with an alternate firing mode as well as main) combine to create a perfect gaming experience. In the game of the year edition there are OVER 70 NEW maps to play in. Added to the original maps the game comes with that totals to about 100-something maps. There are also a lot of new "player skins" to choose from. Maybe the best thing about this game is the tremedous replay value it has. You can play in the 1 player tourney or do practice sessions (which is just a normal battle not a tutorial) with the Bots that you created. In my opinion this game is more enjoyable than watching a kid wrestle an imaginary bear. Simply put, the best game EVER. Oh yeah theres a multiplayer mode too but...i'm too addicted to single-player to notice...

I don't meant to criticize the game. It has neat graphics, interesting environment, and fast-paced action. I have just outgrown this genre. When I was younger, I could still play "Doom" for hours. This game is far more advanced than "Doom." But to every season there is a turn, to every age its own.

But make sure that you have a good graphics card a fast computer. This game has almost an unlimited number of levels, and thats only the first unreal tournament in this pack. HISTORY:

Since ID games invented this genre with Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, there have been many entries into this market that have proven to be unworthy contenders. While most games had impressive graphics (for their time), they lack in playablity.

For the longest time, one of games that stood out as achieving a balance between innovation and playability was Duke Nukem 3D. What made this game a multi-player frag feast was that besides having a unique style and great attitude, it had cool weapon set and almost perfect balance. This is almost the central component of a good first person shooter (FPS). What this led to in Duke Nukem was almost infinite frag variability and a whole lotta of fun...

Several years after that the action-game market remain without any new titles that captured the multiplayer crown from Duke Nukem, but then finally in the Winter of 1999 along games the new master of the FPS arena...

HAIL TO THE KING BABY!

Unreal Tournament is the new king of this genre. It has a perfect weapon set that is completely balanced. Unlike Quake, where the guy with the rocket launcher has traditionally had the upper hand, UT has some great frag alternatives like the now classic "head shot".

In the end this balance leads to better game play because it fosters equal opportunity fragging with everyone having a fair chance to kill, instead of just the guy with the biggest gun. Because as we know once has the RPG, he keeps the RPG for awhile, and that is inheritly unfair.

In addition the game has well designed, and well thought-out levels especially for deathmatch. UT also offers some great alternative multiplayer games including the awesome Capture the Flag.

So heres to Unreal Tournament, the best FPS, and in my humble opinion THE BEST GAME to come along in a long long time. I suppose it will reign supreme for awhile, until perhaps Duke Nukem Forever makes its long overdue appearance on the store shelfs.<(...)

I dont have this game yet but i can tell you it is similiar to the orginal. If you dont have the original look at my review. If you are looking for a review for the game of the year edition, skip mine. Unreal tournemnt blows away all fps games to this day. Multiplayer is the core of this game being able to play with 15 other players in real time is the best thing in the world.

This game is to this day still one of my favorites!

This is a game that is fun anytime. I found the single player game a total blast o rama. It is non stop action. Ive played so many first person shooters and this game set the standard for sure. The develpers and producers have since release tons of official extras for this game to double the replay value. They have added downloadable map packs with new music, character models, voices, and freshness! Even with all the new fancy games out, I still end up playing this all the time. My freinds all love it too and that is where the game really shines: mulitplayer. Take this game online. If you dont have the featured map(there are zillions made by fans) then the game downloads it for you right before you start blasting! It's fool proof.

100% action
100% fun
100% replayability
100% worth the price

I already bought two copies back in the day for full price, which I never do. It was that good and worth it to buy it again after losing the fisrt copy. Like I said, I never pay full retail for games, but this one was an excellent exception.

Fantastic Game, Fantastic Value

There's a point in every good game where, for a moment, something sends tingles down your spine, much like a favorite song on the radio. In Epic Games' Unreal Tournament, that sight was setting Mars rising on the horizon as I dueled to the death on an orbiting space platform. Yep, this is awesome.

While waltzing through a local department store, I happened upon this game for only ten bucks. Being more used to games like Descent, I haven't played with too many FPS titles. Quake and Red Faction were the only major ones I had any experience with, but I had heard nothing but good things about Unreal Tournament. And for ten bucks, what the hey?

All I can say is WOW. That ten dollars bought a game that I will play and enjoy for years to come. Simply put, this is one of the highest-quality titles I've seen in a long time. A fun and addictive FPS, UT redefined my expectations for an FPS game and is easily the greatest "bargain bin" title I've ever bought.

Out of the box, you get tons of levels and gameplay modes. There is a single-player tourney, but you can play against the computer-controlled bots as well. On-line, expect to see packed servers even to this day, several years after the game released. UT also comes with an awesome game editor called UnrealEd that is relatively easy to use. Tutorials are everywhere and new levels are released everyday to freshen up the UT experience. Put bluntly, this game never gets old. The graphics aged rather nicely, and the soundtrack is remarkably great.

Even when I compare it to Unreal Tournament 2003, which I later bought on account of the greatness of the original, UT still shines. The awesome weapons, the varied arena settings, and the general "feel" of the game just aren't the same in UT2K3. There is a certain beauty and elegance to this game, despite the lack of insane details as in UT2K3, that keeps me coming back to it.

Critiques? I only have a few. One, the netcode is rather sensitive to lag, such that if you aren't playing on a sub 100ms ping server, you might find that its unplayable (course, that's just my opinion). Two, I wish there were more character models to use. There are about a half-dozen in the game with only two or three "skins" apiece. While it's enough to differentiate between players, there is too much repetition to it (UT2K3 addressed this by having tons of models to choose from). And last, I tend to think that the game's sense of scale is a bit strange. In many levels, including my own attempts, the players seem small compared to the environments around them. This is even more prominent in UT2K3. None of these flaws are major problems, however - more like tiny details and ways to improve what's already near perfect.

For merely ten bucks, you can't go wrong. If you haven't played UT, you owe it to yourself to find and buy it. Check the bargain software section at your local store. This could very well be the finest FPS ever designed.
