Holy Marmalade Batman!

I bought this game on a trip to my local Fry's. I didn't really expect much from it. But when I played Capure the Flag, I nearly caked my pants. This is an excellent game worthy for praise by any hardened gamer (exept those who like Quake 3- See my review of Quake 3 for Dramcast). This is the game that truely made me love the FPS genre (exept the utterly poor Quake series). By all means shell out your $... - $... and BUY THIS GAME!

This game never gets outdated...

It's already some time ago when this game appeared for the first time. The graphics were cool, game play was outstanding, great sound and you had a hell of alot fun with it. Now 5 years later (?) nothing changed to that, although it's a bit less fun nowadays wich is normal after 5 years...
Yeah, nowadays you got UT 2004, but it can't compete with this one, the first remains to be the best first-person shooter ever made. You also don't need alot of space or an amazing videocard to run this game. Online-mode is hard, 'cause all the die-hard-fans stayed in UT 1 and they are difficult to beat. I'm not going to say more, but if you're into first person shooter, this is the mother of all first persoon shooters!

One of the best deathmatch FPS for weaker PCs

Today, with the arrival of Unreal Tournament 2004, the original seems almost obsolete. However, there is one advantage the original has over its bigger brethren. The system requirements.

A PC required to run UT today would probably run you less than $300. Even at this price range, the system requirements would probably still be over the needed limits. How times change, huh? I know some people who remembers that UT was actually kind of difficult to run at the time of its release (I was only a console gamer at the time, so I didn't know). Imagine years from now when Doom 3's requirements would be considered nothing...

Anyway, as I've said before, the biggest advantage to this is the low requirements. If you have a weak PC, then you could simply opened up UT and get a quick fragging game on. You could play at maximum settings and still get 60fps (for those who don't know, that is EXCELLENT speed). As UT is meant to be a fast pace game, this is extremely important.

Speaking of which, that is probably the main appeal of this game. The ultra fast pace of the game adds tremendously to its gamelength. Supposedly, UT was released as a competitor to Quake II, but I had a chance to play Quake II later and I thought it was horrible compared to UT. Hell, I played Quake III later and thought it was horrible compred to UT. If you've played Quake before, then just take that and give it a few bottles of steroids.

While the pace is comparable to Quake, it is how you play it that makes it so much better. Whereas many of Quake's stages are often confining, UT gives you large stages that lets you roam around with a shaky trigger finger. The stages add tremendously, especially when you play Deathmatch. That reminds me, the game modes are GREAT! While there are many game modes, the two which are the best is probably Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.

Now, the speed and modes are great, but there is more. Online play and maps. There are ALWAYS people fragging online, so you never have to worry about lack of people to play with. This is great for when you have insomnia and want to stay up killing strangers online. Secondly, the downloadable maps are GREAT! Have a map from another game that you want to play? Search for it online and you might find it!

In conclusion, all of the aforementioned parts of UT gives it an extremely high replay value. Highly recommended for people who likes fast pace games and like to have a quick fragging round every once in a while. Not recommended for anyone who is disturb by mass bloodshed, but for those who don't mind it, go ahead and enjoy!

A great refinement from Unreal Tournament.

While other games matched it for single-player and online multiplayer deathmatch excitement, Unreal Tournament stood out as the best team-based action game of 1999. Players duel with sci-fi weapons in such diverse environments as a rocking pirate ship, an amphibious invasion in World War II, and opposing guard towers atop a wildly spinning asteroid.

Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition includes 70 new maps and three new modes from which to choose. Tactical Ops is a team-play mode, based around two teams -- the elite Special Forces and terrorist groups from around the world. Tactical Ops introduces realistic weapons, maps from actual locations, and never-before-seen scenarios. Rocket Arena is classic one-on-one deathmatch combat with all the weapons at your disposal. Chaos features crazy new weapons, such as a broadsword, living proximity mines that yell at your opponent, and even a small black hole.

As for technical stuff, the network code remains the same. *sigh*

The graphics are pretty much the same in Unreal Tournament only this game uses different textures wich make it look awsome. Just make sure you got atlease 64+ mbs of RAM or this fast-paced game will be moving at SNAIL SPEED!

Unbelievable!

Unreal Tournament G.O.T.Y. edition is totally on another specrum of first person shooter games. The graphics, stages, game modes, and sounds are all light years ahead of their competition. The game is extremely fun to play-you'll be staring at the screen for hours upon hours upon days. The multiplayer gaming aspect is also top-notch. Finding LAN or internet games is simple. The virtual "bots" also benefit from advanced artificial intelligence that makes them behave like a real player would. In short, this game is a must have-even if you already own the first UT. Try it; you won't be dissapointed.

Fantastic!

This game is one of the best games ever made. My favorite feature is the fact that you can create your own characters and build your own teams and melee games. If you have slow internet connection and suffer from lag, then this is the game for you!

Great Game! but misleading advertisement

Fantastic game, but note that it does NOT come with Tactical Ops like this website says.

You might as well just quit your job before buying it

Unreal Tournament is, in my opinion, the 2nd best First Person Shooter game created so far, 1st being Half Life. There was a lot of hype surrounding this but, unlike Quake 3, it lives up to the hype. It succedes in all the places Quake 3 fails - fun weapons, interesting boards and a very intelligent AI system on the bots (just try beating the Godlike setting). And I think it even blows away Quake 3 graphics-wise, too. My only pet peeve with the game is the load time!! I have a 733 MHZ computer and it takes FOREVER. But it's still worth the wait.

THIS GAME IS AWESOME, EVEN WITH THE DEMO!!

The story line, options, and even the music's good! One bad thing is that my parents are not letting be play even the demo, since it has some vilonce! (i'm only 13...)

For casual gamers (i.e. those of us who have lives, jobs, etc.) this is an absolute winner. Easy to grasp and navigate almost immediately. It also can be downloaded onto your hard drive, making it a dream for lazybones or people who have difficutly keeping up with their CD-roms. Many game options and hours or pure fun.
