One of the great games of our times

Max payne is the riveting tale of a man broken by the violence that he ironically fights against as a police officer. After his wife and baby are killed in their home, max payne sets out on a path of revenge to lay to rest the ghosts of his loved ones. Max payne has some of the most intense action of any video game I've ever played. The amazing slow motion bullet time adds the ability to aim more accurately and avoid incoming bullets. It is truly a site to see when bullets rush by your head as you dive sideways, guns blazing from a doorway. The only down side is that max payne should only be witnessed on either an xbox, or better yet, a high end pc. This game is amazing; graphically, gameplay wise, and story wise, max payne stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Just buy it. You'll be satisfied- trust me. It only took me a week or so to complete, and the story line was pathetic, but the graphics, sound and bullet time are all worth it. Plus, its pretty hard. You get a wide variety of guns, not to mention (my favorite) a Molotov coctail. A played this game with two of my friends and from then on it was the topic of our discussions for like a week after we finished. Trust me, its totally worth it.

Must-have title for action fans

This is one hell of a shooter game. Max Payne belongs in every gamer's collection (well, at least fans of shooter games).

The story is about a cop seeking revenge for the death of his wife and baby. The story is fast-paced, and gripping. Once I started this game, I didn't want to stop till I got my revenge. The ability to quick-save (F5 key) at any point is a pretty handy feature. Each level in the game introduces you to new characters, and clues that eventually lead you to the main villain. The Bullet-time feature - the ability to slow time around you, gives you a definite edge in some fight sequences. The enemy AI is sufficiently smart and effective.

Pros:
Good graphics, gripping story, bullet-time feature, quicksave

Cons:
Somewhat short, limited replayability, no multi-player support

Other than a few complaints (cons above), this game is well worth your purchase. Max Payne is a MUST-BUY for action fans. So what are you waiting for?

This game is one of the best third person shooters I have ever played the vivid storytelling and cool dark urban setting is topped off by a mode where you can move in slo motion and dodge bullets like in the matrix. This is a deffinite purchase for any gamer in there right mind. I will score all of the different elements from 1-10

uhh , i havent gotten it yet but all the videos/reviews make this game seem amazing, so i guess it really rocks, i am hopeing to get it soon though, its taking a while to get here, but its really worth it, the matrix thing makes it 10 times better than perfect, SO BUY IT NOW!!!

A Great Game for a Great Computer

I use that title because of the steep system requirements. I just received this game in the mail today and have played it for a few hours. It is very choppy on my P-3 700 with an NVIDIA Geforce 2 MX. The graphics are wonderful but everything has to be on low for it not to be choppy. The slow motion and cinematics are worked wonderfully into the game and I saw that as the only problem that might have been hard to overcome. I recommend this game to anyone who loves first person shooters and also has a extremely fast computer.

I just got this game today and I think it is absolutely amazing. The Matrix style thing called bullet time is not only awesome to see but quite helpful when orienting yourself with a lot of bad guys around. The story is a dark, sorta gritty tale, but it is very solid and well thought out. Lastly, the graphics. I cannot begin to describe how amazingly beautiful these graphics are. You can actually see the individual bullets blasting out of the gun. All in all, if you have a good computer and any sense at all you will buy this game.

BAsed on the other reviewer's experience, Max Payne DOES WORK with XP.

I understand where he/she is coming from though. My Half Life game won't work with XP, while others have success doing it. In my opinion, it's a potluck.

The game itself is fun a la Half Life with slow-mo to boot. It's an interesting story and moves right along. The screenplay dialogue is badly written & cheeesy at times--i.e. normal people don't use big words to describe their feelings. The targets get progressively more difficult, but NOT difficult enough--i.e. I wasn't challenged....i.e. this game needs a good difficulty program.

I'm not usually big on video games. They don't really hold my attention too long but this game I couldn't stop playing. The graphics are awesome and when I tried the bullet time I was hooked. Everything about this game is cool. I hope they come out with another story for Max, I'm ready to unload my 300 rounds from my Beretta into another bad guy.

I beat Max Payne in three days.The end is very confusing but easy the second time.I mostly use bullet time because it makes you survive more longer.I can`t promise you youl beat the game in three days but i can promise you will love the game.I hope you enjoy Max Payne,by the way DEATH IS BRUTLE
