Doom 3 is absolutely one of the est and overall most fun FPS games that I have ever had the privilage of playing. I just finished the game about twenty minutes ago and am already thinking of starting up a harder mission again. This game does take up a lot of requirements so beware if your PC isn't really up to snuff. However... if you do have a powerful machine like I have, you will have a hard time trying to find a game that comes close in comparison to graphics, and gameplay. The levels are totally great, as are also the enemies, weapons and storyline. I love doom 3 and recommend this game to everyone who enjoys a good FPS, because quite simply, this is one of the great ones!

I have a 1.6 Pentium 4 with 768Mb of ram, and a Nvidia G-Force TI-4200 with 128mb of Video Memory and I must Say that this game runs almost Perfect in normal mode "800X600" and "PERFECT" in Low mode "640X480", And I'm Telling you Folks you wouldn't note the difference between this two modes, even in Low resolution, Graphics are Out of this world. Oh yeah sometimes it gets a little bit slow but not so often, This is by far the best Game I ever Played.
The Music is Terrific, Graphics are Outstanding and the whole atmosphere, it really really scares you.

I recommend this game if you have a nearly decent PC.
It will become an instant Classic.

Doom 3 was the worst game that i have ever bought in my life!!! Oh my gosh this is the dumbest game i have 3 GB in my computer and a 128 MB video card in my machine. I thought it would be good but no...no it didnt all i got out of the stupid game was medium quality video card. If you want to play this game and actually have the flashlight work then go screw a monkey for $600 dollars and get a kick ass video card that has 256 mb. but i dont even think that would make a good quality video card. And this game is not worth buying the only game worth buying is half-life 2. Cause at least they know how to give a kick ass online multiplayer game. I mean it too 15 min just to find a server that said connecting but then suddenly it said full server and there was only one person in the server out of 12. I mean there is no way in hell that i'll buy a dumb ass doom game ever!!!(...)

P!S! It got boring in about 30 minutes.

Nice game, but too much demand on the hardware.

I played the demo, however, it did not run so well on my machine. The game is pretty much like other 1st person shooters (Quake, Unreal, etc.) but it has incredible environments (nice shadows, realistic moving lamps, gas vents, blood, etc..) and the zombies that appear out of nowhere really make you jump!

I seen previews of this game and the graphics are amazing

This game looks like it is a must have. I only played one doom in my life and it was on super nintendo but i am positive i am going to by this game. I love shooting games and this game is probely going to be one of the best shooting games out there on the market. But like I said this game is probly going to have the best graphics and I dont think any games are going to match the graphics for a long time. I hope this reviews helps and i hope u guys agree with me about this game.

DOOM 3 - A first-person shooter worth much acclaim...

I played this game about 9 months ago (January 2005) and quite frankly, it was a great First Person Shooter in my opinion. Now I've played a ton of FPS games in the past, and I'll be honest - this game isn't as good as the Half-Life Series. That's just one of the greatest FPS Sagas ever conceived I'm afraid. But nonetheless, "Doom 3" is fantastic and is sure to scare even the hardiest and merciless FPS Veterans. On to the review...

Mars. The 22nd Century. You play a Marine brought in to assist in security operations on a Top-Secret Research Facility on the Red planet. However, when you land you are warned to leave the planet immediately by a seemingly paranoid scientist. Ignoring this, you continue on your path and get straight to work. You are subsequently given your first assignment to find a missing scientist - and upon finding him, all hell breaks loose. You are then flung into a world of hideous monstrousities, demons and darkness as you fend for your very life in the besieged facility. The storyline borrows from the older "Doom" games and evidently also "Half-Life." The storyline's a bit formulaic, but it's good enough for me: hey, it's an FPS, not a Strategy or Role-playing game! So "Doom 3" gets 7/10 for its storyline.

The gameplay is great, there's no doubt about that. You'll constantly find yourself interpolating between your weapons arsenal and flashlight as you navigate the dark and ominous corridors of the UAC Facility. It's a far more realistic approach to combat, though you'd think that your armour would have a built-in flashlight. Still, it makes for some terrifying combat and scary-ass conflict. The guns range from small to f****** big, so you get your standard loadout as such. And you can carry every single gun too, which is impossible, but fantastic! The gameplay is fast and horrifying, and you'll constantly find yourself backing up and firing at hulking figures and at times running the hell away from some enemies. I reckon the gameplay's flawless and so it gets 10/10 in my book.

The Graphics are stunning, or so I think so. The ambient lighting is fantastic, the details on the environments, characters and weapons are fabulous and the effects are simply jaw-dropping. And the game's supposed to be dark and foreboding, and the environments are a reflection of the games' atmosphere. There are blood-stains on the walls, totally dark areas, dimly-lit corridors, a hazardous and toxic planet surface and eventually you even go to hell! Woohoo! Now THAT'S entertainment! 10/10 for the graphics.

Now how's about a look at your weapons eh? Basically your weapons range from your fists and a standard issue 9mm Pistol to firearms like the mighty plasma gun and devastating BFG (which can fire individual blasts of plasma or one charged ball of furious death at your enemies.) It's all alot of fun to sucker punch zombies using your fists (I live for punching zombies!) and if one pi$$es you off, just hit him with a flashlight. Maybe that's not your game, but messing with the undead is just heaven (ironically). There are plenty of weapons to keep you happy and even an artifact that's great for not only killing enemies, but restoring your health too. Once again "Doom 3" gets 10/10 for weapons.

Now for the enemies. Basically they range from your common garden-variety zombie (both thin and fat-a$$ed) to your almighty Hell-Knight and Arch-Vile. Zombies are easy to kill and the most fun to destroy. Then Imps are evil looking creatures that throw fireballs at you and also have a nasty claw attack - may I suggest a Shotgun for killing these guys? My personal method is to walk right up to them and blow a hole in their face. It's a very effective attack. Then you get these flying disembodied heads called Lost Souls. They are excruciatingly annoying, especially in groups. Use a pistol for 3 and under, and a machine-gun for any more than that. Then Cacodemons (that look simliar to those Octopuses in "Duke Nukem 3D.") Float around and fire plasma blasts from their mouths. Suggested weapons: machine-gun for 2 and under, and either a chain-gun or plasma gun for more than that. Then you get these Double-Headed Demons called Maggots - they're incredibly weak and usually 1 or 2 shotgun blasts send them back to hell. Then there are these Spider-Creatures (called Wraiths) that can appear and re-appear. They're also terribly weak. Wait for one to get next to you, and as he lifts his mandible, blow his head off with a shotgun shell. Then you get these small-spider things (both adult and juvenile, the former known as Trites and the latter as Ticks) - use a machine-gun or pistol on them - they're weak but DEADLY in groups. Then there are Cherubs that are also weak but highly aggressive. I prefer a shotgun for a couple of them but any other automatic weapon is preferable for more. Use your discretion. There are also Possessed Marines that use everything from pistols to shotguns to machine-guns. I like to use equal force on one enemy, but a plamsa gun or chain-gun is ideal for more than that. Commando Demons are soldiers who have been taken over and mutated by Doctor Malcolm Betruger. Some will run at you and use a tentalce attack on you, others fire chain-guns. They're dumb and aggressive, much like the Jocks at you high school. I suggest a Chain Gun or Plasma Gun on these guys. Revenants are skeletal in nature and fire shoulder mounted rockets at you. I say Plasma Gun first and in open areas (such as the planet surface) use a Rocket Launcher. Pinky Demons are quadrupedal and are relatively weak. Shotgun all the way I say. Mancubus' are fat and grotesque and fire massive plasma blasts from two huge cannons. They're basically immobile - use any big gun, including the BFG on these guys. And if possible, just run away. Hell Knights are the big Kahunas in "Doom 3." Like Imps, they throw plasma balls - just alot bigger. And don't get close, because you will be battered, bitten and smashed to pieces by these lumbering behemoths. The weapon choice is easy - the bigger the gun, the better! Arch Viles cast spells to summon other demons and also create trails of fire which absolutely destroy you. Kill these guys first! Use a Plasma Gun or Rocket Launcher on them. Those are your basic enemies, but you'll face bosses like The Vagary (which comes back later on in the game as a common enemy), The Sabaoth, The Guardian and the Absolutely massive and awe-inspiring Cyberdemon. The enemies are so diverse and numerous that "Doom 3" deserves 11/10 in my book!

In terms of difficulty, "Doom 3" can be pretty tough in some places. But Veteran is passable and Nightmare can be completed (ask me, I did it!). I suggest that veterans of FPS games play on the Veteran setting and then the Nightmare setting, and newbies should play the Marine setting. "Doom 3" gets 10/10 for difficulty on the Nightmare setting, 8/10 on Veteran, 6/10 for Marine and 5/10 for Trainee. "Doom 3" also gets 7/10 for lastability (without Multiplayer capabilities) and 9/10 for consumers with access to High Speed Internet connections and LAN Networks.

Overall "Doom 3" scores a solid gold 92%. It's dark and foreboding, action-packed, riddled with blood thirsty enemies and bosses and possesses all the necessary components for an FPS classic! It's not the greatest FPS I've ever played and not the scariest game either, but "Doom 3" has a fine balance of both crucial elements. So I would definitely recommend it to all serious FPS players, but there again, there are some fans who apparently haven't enjoyed "Doom 3." But that aside, I certainly enjoyed it and the Expansion Pack, although short, was alot of fun. So go on, buy it, borrow it or steal it today, but at least give it a decent chance before you judge it. Peace!

I'd love to review this game, but....

...I never got to play it. Disc 3 of the install fails, so...I do a manual install. Then the sound doesn't work (my card exceeds the sysreqs), so...I download the patch. The patch can't recognize the version...you know where I'm going with this. Judging from my internet research on fixing these problems, I'm not the only person to experience these problems. I've spent several hours trying to get this game running - I could have pursued this and gotten it working, but frankly I don't have the patience for it, and I shouldn't have to. If I buy a coffeemaker I expect it to make coffee - If I buy software I expect it to work out of the box. Totally unprofessional!!!!!

Fantastic

Fantastic. If you played the original and loved it, then this one is for you. Gorgeous graphics, and a wonderful atmosphere. This is Doom for the 21st century. Perhaps taste comes into all of this, but I loved it. Initially I had a few problems as I have an ATI 9600 card and the game crashed occasionally. I solved this by using the ATI CATALYST 4.9 BETA, perfect I can now play the game on the highest settings!

Scariest Game Ever. Period.

If this game does not scare you then you are already dead. I have been playing this game at night with the lights turned out and the headphones on. I have thrown the mouse every night. ID has captured the art of scaring the gamer with sound, monsters and just generally creepiness.

The sound and visuals are the best. You will probably have to upgrade your pc to get decent framerates but it is well worth it.

The details on the environment is insane. The levels actually look and feel like a real place. There is a lot of attention to detail.

I do not like horror type games and the graphics, storyline, and sound keep me playing everynight.

I highly recommend this game.
