This game is very good if you want to lose weight, because every time that you play it you will want to throw up because it's so bad. It actually isn't that bad, my major problem is that there is so much hype, and positive feedback about it that your hopes really get built up. You might even enjoy it for a while, but eventually you realize how bad it is. The graphics aren't very good, they look like a computer graphisised version of clamation, not of real people. The story is not very engaging, and only moves forward occasionally. Finally my largest problem is that I find myself doing the same thing over and over again. The game takes place entirely indoors in dark rooms. There is no variety in the gameplay whatsoever; you go from room to room dodging, and shooting. You are not given any opportunities to use veicles, or try different play stiles. The only merit that this game might bring to you life is that it is occasionaly scary, and that's it.
Ignore the brain dead... Doom 3 is great!

Apparently some people have gotten off the short bus just in time to write illiterate reviews that say "Doom 3 suxx0r5" and such nonsense.
The fact of the matter is that Doom 3 is a very, very good game. It is not a tactical simulator, and it is not an airy-fairy adventure game. Doom 3 is a straight-on action/horror game, and nothing else. If that isn't what you want, don't buy the game and then whine about it like an imbecille.
Likewise, please read and understand the System Requirements printed on the box before you buy it; Doom 3 needs some pretty powerful hardware, especially if you want the best experience playing the game. You not reading the box is not Id's problem.
Doom 3 has great graphics, great sound, fun action, and the best creepy monsters ever in a video game. If that sounds good, get it and enjoy it. If not, then go play something else and be quiet.

This is the first game that I am scared to play. I jumped so many times the first time I played. The graphic are outstanding and DEMANDING!!! I have an ATI 9800Pro, 3.06 w/HT, 512MB ram and 7200rpm RAID system and the graphics suggested by Doom 3 are medium quality at 800 x 600. WOW!!!
Every room is black, you use your flashlight to look around and QUICKLY switch to a weapon an fire in very VERY low light. Hard as HELL!!!
The best game ever made for any machine!!! I am in LOVE!!!
Like playing a (real) scary movie!

Man this game is nuts! If you want an easygoing laid back game look elsewhere. This game had me on the edge of my seat everytime I played. The visuals are spectacular, very dark, flickering lights, and excellent atmosphere are complimented by great ambient sounds and SFX. The story is told through gameplay and through PDA's you find scattered around, by snooping and reading people's emails you can see what was going on at the UAC Mars Base. The game can be quite shocking and is therefore not suitable for young kids, but anyone mature enough with nerves of steel will love this game.
ps. multi-player could be better in all honesty.

Id Software's Doom III was (and still is) one of the most highly anticipated games of arguable the last few years -- some of the other highly anticipated games include Valve's Half-Life 2 marvel, and the follow-up Bungie's promising shooter series Halo, Halo 2. From the very first moment when the screen fades out of the black intermission one can't help to be astonished for the graphical quality of the game is, as yet, unsurpassed. Faces and bodies are beautifully, not to mention realistically animated, and it seems all most impossible to comprehend how many hours must have been put into designing and animating even the smallest features. One plays as a nameless Union Aerospace (UAC) marine, who has been called into active duty on Mars to help out with the increasing number of problems that have been occurring within the UAC installations. Upon arrival one is immediately equipped with a PDA upon which e-mails, audio, as well as video recordings can be played back. These media help progress the story, but unfortunately stall the action and tension created running down poorly-lit corridors. But, unfortunately that's about all that Doom III has to offer. Once on looks past the amazing graphical splendor, it becomes apparent that the game play is no where near as big of a leaf forward as the visual presentation. Doom III is very heavily scripted; zombies and other hellish beings come running out of the hiding-spaces as soon as they're triggered and you, as the player shoot them down, and then as you walk on the same thing happens again and again. After a few hours of game play the game starts to become very predictable, and this, unfortunately also takes away heavily from the suspense and possibly fear that may have been evoked earlier on in the game. The AI if nothing special either - as a matter of fact it's slightly disappointing. The AI entities will spawn behind you or around a corner and simple charge at you firing the weapon. The possessed marines are slightly more intelligent then the vast majority of the creature escaped from hell, and they will seek cover and fire from there, but even this they do at random intervals. The AI Crytek's Far Cry surpasses that of Doom, and the AI as seen in demo-clips of Half-Life 2 are also far beyond anything that one will come across in Doom. There are also some minor errors, which some players may notice. For instance, you're a lone marine, and you have no great difficulty taking down the enemy, whereas your fellow marines - whom you hear about over your radio - are being brutally slaughtered. In a few levels, one will come across these small spider-like sentries equipped with machine-guns and they can also be seen in action and they simple plow right through the zombie, without any problem, so why should the UAC not simply deploy all of its sentries to eradicate its enemies. Another disappointing factor of Doom III, compared to its aging predecessors, is that the bodies of down foes crumble into ashes as soon as they're shot lifeless, even the ashes disappear. In Doom 1 and 2 the player, when he or she got lost could retrace his or her steps following the carnage of just moments before.
Doom III offers that latest in graphical splendors together with moderate game play and level design to produce a great game, which should take slightly longer than most games to complete (15-20 hours depending to difficulty). Doom III, as you may know, has been advertised together with the newest and fastest in computing technology, which may have led some to believe that it would only play on high-end, top-of-the-line systems, but rest assured Doom III plays well even on PC aged up to 2 years. Even if played in its lowest settings Doom plays pretty much the same. As for an overall rating: 8.9.
There is really nothing wrong with this...

This is a great game, no doubt. The graphics are great, and the gameplay is pretty much what you'd expect from a good Doom remake.
However, for a little while, I was tempted to give this game a lower rating. Why? Well, I am not quite sure. I enjoyed the game and it has super high production values. However, there is nothing in the game that really blew me away in the FarCry sort of way. Everything was pretty much the way I had expected it and had seen it before, although in a better and more professional way. There is no doubt that this is one of the best games I ever played, but for some reason, it is a great game in a disappointing way. There really are no true surprises.
The game almost exclusively plays in a Mars station. The station is very nicely modeled and believable. As you get through different parts of the station, the graphical style changes slightly. However, not enough to be really obvious unless you pay close attention to the graphics. This in a way is one of the weaknesses of the game. Once you are done, you really feel like you only played a single mission and are ready for the next level, even though the game is longer than most shooters these days (by a wide margin). The game even features a few interesting and unique moments, but overall, the whole thing appears like one huge space station blur once you are done. It is hard to think of individual moments of importance beyond a few exceptions. (Although those exceptions are very very good!)
The game is scary in a "there is a monster in my closet" sort of way. The game is very dark. It is to gaming what Event Horizon is to movies. Very dark and very scary. But of course, you always know you are playing a game. I guess games are really hard to make truely scary, but this game gets the closest to being really scary of all the games I have played. Although I can see why some players would not like the constant flashlight action.
Over time, the game grew on me and I was truely sucked in and could not stop until I was done. In hindsight, I am sorry it is over and I truely enjoyed it, even though I was initially somewhat disappointed.
I liked the added elements brought to the story through email and computer terminals. Some critics complain about all the reading and how it slows down the games pace, but I did enjoy it, even though I normally do not like my shooters to be interrupted by puzzles.
I did experience a few bugs. Sometimes the sound shut off and I actuall had to reboot my machine. Also, some of the weapons handling is sub-optimal. Switching between the Soulcube, the flashlight, and other weapons sometimes does not work as advertised (especially after you load a game or after you watched an in-game video).
Overall, I can recommend this game to anyone who has a remote interest in first person shooters.
Fun game if a friend lets you play it.

I hate games that come out which requires you to build a new computer or throw the old one out and have to buy a new one in order to use the full capability of the game. Yeah so the game really actually cost 754.99 dollars. Jeez it's the Steel Battalion of PC games. That aside, playing this game on my friends computer it's absolutely fun. I love the new revamped version of Doom this time it has a story line akin to Half Life meets Event Horizon. Though I wish like in Doom you could really explore the game but I don't mind the liner stages of the game. I actually hated having to run all over the place to find key cards at least this game points you to your destination. I enjoy all the gory effects in the game and occult atmosphere. Very horrifying it nearly completes what I dreamed of, a Doom movie.
Now only if I can save enough money for an tigerdirect computer or Alienwear computer to run this baby on then I will be satisfied.
DARKNESS FLASHLIGHT MAKE THE GAME

THE FLASHLIGHT: DOOM 3 is not the blast that DOOM was but makes DOOM look like a picnic. Best playing moment was moving the flashlight everywhere in the hope NOT to find anything to shot at. I added flashlights to some weapons but the game lost ambient and I removed the mod. I kept a mod that improved sound on weapons though.
MY BEST PART: The beginning. After having met all the nice chaps we walk through a scenery nice and mopped turned havoc. Those first playing moments have a tension built I've never experienced in a game before.
ALSO: Reading the PDA's mails and listening to the audio reports was bizarre. A lot of details build up the atmosphere. Steam, the frightened guy curled up that won't move, being able to pick up a corpse and incinerate it. The monorail drive is impressive after so much time inside. Also the sand storms, probably deadly, but wishing to be out there instead. I sneaked every corner and kept going back through the aisles picking up health and armor... very creepy. I punched all corpses to bits in order to reduce stress (mine). The EnPro Plant was too much for me and I had to interrupt the daily session before time.
BUT: ...but Communications was MY turning point and the game got tiresome. I kept playing till the end though. The fright mood never left, but I became careless about the marine's health, thinking of how many corners were left till the next level, instead of enjoying the moment. New weapons and monsters did not help. The general attitude was: Heck, here we go again... thus probing you can get used to Hell.
MAY BE: A companion (female) would had been nice in order to avoid an ulcer in the first stages. The sentries are a relief. Their laser guns could have been a nice add-on to the weaponry.
A NOTE OF ADVICE: At the beginning I had problems sleeping. Probably due to a higher adrenaline flow. Don't rely too much on the Quicksave. Game crashing may damage the slot and I had to redo levels three times. Don't play in front of kids, nephews, infants or any of those. If they get contaminated by DOOM 3 move them fast to nursery games like DOOM, when everything was sunny and life was good.
ALTOGETHER: The kick I got from this game was very intense until it faded. Although the game has no replay value to me, I enjoyed the DOOM 3 hype, the game itself and the Amazon reviews... I'll vote to drop the Cacodemons. These monsters don't match the game and never have. I also felt pretty stupid with a smokey chainsaw. In computer games I expect more graphic beauty than plot. I'm OK with DOOM3.
Plot was just fine

Out of all the Doom games, this one has the best plot. I don't know if you folks remember Doom 1 and 2, but there wasn't much of a story going on there. Pretty much just going around blowing stuff up. This definitely has substance, amazing graphics and I don't care what anyone says - if it's the 50th time, I'll still Sh#t my pants when something jumps out at me. You just never expect it. They must have carefully planned each demon that jumps out at you. GET IT!

For those of you are to young too know or too dumb to know. First came Wolfenstein, then Spear Of Destiny and then DOOM. (3.5 Disks) All other Shooters (Quake, Half-Life, etc.) take their origins from these 3 games. The feeling of being alone, hemmed in and watched is so believable. The artwork is fantastic.
