spooky as hell

i was priviledged enough to get to play this game on a super fast computer, with all the graphics on their highest settings. and man, it was great.
the graphics are very realistic and the mood is constantly creepy. not psychological creepy, but the 'something around every corner/afraid of the dark' kind of creepy. you begin the game in a military base/lab and soon all hell breaks loose, literally. demons begin crawling around all over the place and stay hidden in the shadows. sometimes you'll just be trying to run out and pick up some ammo, then you'll hear some hissing and the clacking sound of claws on metal. needless to say, this game will require some time. unless of course, the dark and haunting atmosphere doesn't phase you at all, then you'll blow through it. not to say the game is short, but nothing is as long as it can be if people just run through it without exploring at all.
which is a big part of this game, exploration. not so much cross country treasure hunts, but trying to find the damn keys and PDA stuff. sometimes it can be a little tedious, but it's not too bad. i had to look up a strategy on the internet for a once, but then i found out i had been walking past what i was looking for the whole time, it wasn't even hidden and i felt like an idiot. other good gameplay features are the gunplay, which is pretty basic, yet effective. and the use of the flashlight, which is ingenious and so simple.
when the crap starts hitting the fan at the beginning of the game, all you have is a flashlight. eventually you find a weapon, but guess what, you can't have both out at the same time. you have two choices: either have the flashlight out so you can see the things lurking in the shadows. or you can keep you gun out and try to fight the almost invisible monsters (heh, palahniuk fans will get that). and they are, too. if you don't use the flashlight, these freakin' things will constantly jump out of nowhere. they blend in so well with the backgrounds, it's amazing.
the graphics are awesome, but it's a shame that if you have a slower computer you don't get the full effect. you practically need to buy a new system just to play this game.
there's a story, but it's not really all that important or deep. evil scientist opens a gate to hell, demons try to take over, you must stop them. nothing new.
doom veterans will be pleased with this title, as it sticks pretty close the original game's style. all in all, it's just a straightforward shooter with little extra. the online multiplayer isn't all that interesting or exciting. except hiding in the shadows and raining rockets down on unsuspecting foes, but that doesn't last long. so if you want a good scare, with great gameplay, sound and graphics, look no further. this is one of the best PC games around, and definitely one of the scariest.

Best thing about this game is that these monsters appear out of no where and come running at u, keeps u in suspense most of the time. It has a nice story behind it. I loved this game, the bosses r freakishly strong and when ur done fighting one u can get 2-3 of them later on lol, love this game recommend it for all u 1st person lovers

I bought this game for my bf and he likes it a lot. The game is very dark but he downloaded something that when you are walking you have both the lights and the gun. People who say it is not scary are just lying. Great graphics, excellent music and voices, good plot.
why the delays?

I suspect the real reason for the delays has a name: HL2
ID invested a lot of energy into making what I think will be the best graphics engine on the market - from what I've seen (and I have got my hands on a beta) its going to be superior to half-life 2 in terms of atmosphere and moody lighting.
The main selling point of the HL2 engine is the physics which actually effects how the game is played and some would argue, is more important to interesting game play/design than aesthetic appeal.
So I think ID have seen the videos of the valve physics engine and are now scrambling to catch up on that front. Anyway - I'm going to buy both - be interested to see what the AI is like in both games too. Farcry has set a pretty high standard in AI for both these games to live up to.

If there is one computer game on earth to pre-order, it is Doom III.
Evolutionary graphics, high-poly models, incredible shader effects, realistic game engine and thirlling single player action.
Id Software is number 1 again.

Whats the holdup?
I dont know about all of you, but Im getting tired of endless, pointless, and more than likely unnecessary delays. Ranked 12th on Amazon, first advertised almost 2 years ago... this game should be done (which it probably is) and out already. Activision is obviously dicking around with everyone. I think they're just trying to see who can hold off longer, them with D3, or Valve with HL2. Either way, Ill prolly buy both, but if you're going to screw with everyone and delay the crap out of something to no end just for sh*ts and giggles, Id rather not even know about it till its on the shelf.

Realistic game, great music, atmosphere, design, almost perfect.
Requires a really modern PC (P4 / AMD XP & GeForce 4).
If you wan't something that will last, than you found it, it's doom serial. Every game has it's fans but Doom is something we all like. just perfect ... ! :)

BORING TEDIOUS CRAP
Ok why?
1) slow and jerky even on a fast machine
2) ages loading level/saved game every time you die(have your gameboy handy)
3) One dimensional, endless dark gloomy little spaces, and yes behind every door is the same monster - and when you kill him another appears behind you - predictable or what.
So. dig out your(or your dad's) old 286 load up doom1 and get ripping - fast fun, humerous, big varied levels, different monsters - which can be made to attack eachother! play it again and again taking different routes through the levels, die and re-load in an instant.
So what went wrong? smart arse geeks got carried away on far out graphics. pish - I want graphics I browse porn.
(excuse the prophanities - I am a european)
Seriously though - just buy Half Life 2
C'mon people! This game will be awesome!

I watched the E3 movie trailer of this game and it looks awesome! It may end up being just like the original Doom, except it will have better graphics, an in depth storyline, and the demons just look way better than the original Doom's demons did. I don't think it's going to be mindless like some of the reviewers say it is (I think you actually pursue somebody in Doom III, that's what I read in PC Gamer). I heard it was going to be short, but I also heard it was going to have alot of content. So it should be worth playing over again then. To the people giving this negative reviews, give this game a break! It hasn't come out and we don't really know how it will turn out but I think it will turn out pretty good and not crappy like Unreal II did (which never looked very promising anyway). Let's just wait and see.
