Fantastic game, much better than Halo 3

I am not a hardcore gamer like a lot of folks that might have reviewed this game already. In fact, I just bought an Xbox 360 a couple of weeks ago and for the first time signed up for Xbox Live.

After having played both Halo 3 (first) and Gears of War (second), I must say that the game play in GoW is far superior to Halo 3. I played both Halo and Halo 2 and found myself bored with Halo 3. There was nothing new about it.

But GoW takes it to another level. The graphics are great; character movement, both friend and foe, is very smooth and well done; AI is much better than any of the Halos; and the game concept itself, with duck-and-cover being the primary tactic versus blow-and-go, is much more fun to play.

I have played GoW online a few times now and the co-op play is a lot of fun with the differing skill levels of the players adding a new dimension of depth to the game.

A highly rated game. Probably the most fun I've had with a console since I can't remember when.

This game has better graphics than Halo 3, though it's not a 10/10, this game is if not the best game on 360, in my opinion... gameplay is unique, kickass graphics, huge panoramic views, master bosses, life like expressions, great controls... action gamers will I repeat WILL Love this game, any real fan of combat action bloddy games is nodding right now by reading this cause they know it's true... can't wait for the sequel, this game is a 360 owner must have!!!!!!!!!!!! Such details, little bugs, perfect game!!!

This game is far from being overated just got the game last week when I got my 360. This game is what video games should be it's fun and the graphics are great the gameplay is smooth. The controls are easy and everything flows. I feel like i'm in a sci fi movie playing this game all the character are awesome. If you just got a 360 get this game you won't regret it. GOW rocks

Top notch must have title for the 360!

One of the very few XBOX360 games to keep me satisfied, and proud to own the 360 and the game itself.

This game really shines in the Single Player Story mode. The story is just flat out GOOD and exciting from the beginning to the end. The AI in the game for both your partner and the enemy is outstanding. The way you take damage and die/regenerate is great. Taking Cover is a great way to keep you interested in the game and make you care about your character.

Contrast this to a game like F.E.A.R. where your health can climb up to 175, you can take multiple shotgun blasts to the chest and all you have to do is tap a button for instant health refill. The concept of "Taking Cover" in Gears of War is just so much more complex and really gets you into the game on a more personal and emotional level.

The controls are easy to learn, your into the action the moment you enter the game. Never a dull moment.

I can only think of two CONS to this game: a) The multi-player is a little one dimensional and gets pretty stale after awhile and b) the game itself is to short. That said, I will eagerly look forward to Part 2 of this exciting game!

the game is great a lot of action in it so many weapons,my favorite weapon was the torque bow with explosive arrow in it.What i like about this game the enemies are smart as the players thats why it makes the game so good.

I don't really know why I'm bothering writing this given will just be lost among a sea of over 400 other reviews, but I just had to say Gears of War is probably the finest, prettiest, most exciting games I've ever played.

This is an example of 360 shooter mayhem at its finest. Buy it or wait till it becomes a greatest hit, then buy it.

Great product that is a staple in anyones game library. The graphics are really good and the game play easy to pick up on. It's a lot of fun if you takethe time to play it and it's online playability is fun as well. It might not match up to a Halo for online play, but it's worth it!

Ok, so you have the standard shooter, It has consistent Run n' Gun action and a storyline thats both compelling and absorbing, im sure some of you are saying "iv'e played so many shooters in my life, what makes this one any different?" the answer may surprise you, gears of war has a unique formula. meaning, asides from the standard shoot em'up style it offers a more technical gaming experience. active reloading is a new feature that im sure other future games will emulate. The duck and cover aspect is damn near perfected in Gears of War, its crucial to take cover if you want to advance further in the game. although the weaponry is a bit limited, you have to make a choice of what you carry. IE with the sniper rifle you can dominate the competition from afar, with the shotgun you can dominate the competition from close quarters. another factor in Gears is the advanced A.I, enemies will dodge, roll, duck, take cover, and even flank to bring you down. the difficulty is competitive and addictive, if your looking for a shooter that shoots more than blanks i recommend this title. Get ready to kick some locust -insert word here-!!

overall i give Gears Of War a rock solid 5 out of 5.
