This game is soooo fun. Mass zombie nightmare fun. Trapped in a mall for 3 days, as Frank West you must survive and uncover the truth behind Santa Ca'basa. The only draw back is the time restraint on missins, but hell, its not that bad. A must have for any and all 360 owners
Where are the saves?!?!?!?!?!?

This is a great game (and I have an sdtv) and the graphics are superb especially the cutscenes. BUT WHERE ARE THE FRIGGIN' SAVES?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I hate capcom for this and I own EVERY RE game ever made (even the piece of crap for the gba) and there are still tons of saves throughout the games! Capcom, I hope every building you own burns to the ground because of some zombie killing every employee. This is a negative review but I think the others sums up the jist of what I mean.
Total lack of respect.

This game looks fun. I want to play it but I can't read the text. The text seems pretty important. People are telling me where to go and what to do but I can't read it.
It is a shame that such a fundamental part of the game is making the whole game unplayable.
Here is what Capcom had to say about this issue. "Unfortunately it does take time to resolve any issue and we would want to fix the issue appropriately as any changes to any game can create additional problems from the result of change; that's just how game programming works and that's why games go through extensive game testing programs and approvals."
Well Capcom, if you cannot provide us with the tools to adequately play your game, we will just buy games from someone else; thats just how being a consumer works. This is a total lack of respect for the consumer on Capcom's part. I will remember this and think twice before buying another game made by Capcom.
Dead Rising should have never "rose" to the market

Well, I thought this game was going to be fun killing zombies and all. Guess what, the game is absolutely horrible. There's not enough action. Yes, if you just want to be killing zombies wasting your time, it's ok. But if you try to follow the game.. well, first of all... you can't, because the font is SO SMALL that you can't read anything. I have a 48" HDTV and I can't read anything. So following the game is EXTREMELY hard because you don't know what's going on, you miss important details. Second of all, the game play lacks a lot of action... and you're playing as a biggest whimp in the world who can't hold a gun straight at first.
The only thing I liked about a game is "Jessie" the blonde girl... and that is very pathetic. Horrible game... get GEARS OF WAR instead, truely the best shooting game ever made.

This game is really something else. I mean, technically speaking we've come a long way. Up until now, I didn't think I'd ever see so many zombies on screen at once. I'm talking hundreds. So many in fact that you literally have to walk on their heads and shoulders when they're filling up a service tunnel wall to wall.
I love the fact that you can use pretty much anything you can find in the game's shopping mall setting to end these miserable creatures lives. Believe me, you haven't lived until you beat the living crap out of a zombie with a giant salmon. You can dispose of these rotten carcasses in dozens of different ways and at the very least, it never gets old even after you've killed over fifty thousand zombies. The control scheme is well mapped, even though it could get a little haphazard when you have to do something in a hurry. Fatal Frame fans will love shooting pics with the camera, which adds a pretty fun element to the game.
Graphics and sound are top notch. The cinemas use the in-game engine and thankfully, the game has top-notch voice acting that won't make you crings like Resident Evil. When you're standing in a zombie infested area, you can hear them growling all around you thanks to some superb surround sound. All the weapons make great sound effects that sound pretty accurate to what they should or would sound like.
Now, while this game is a lot of fun, it's not without its problems. It may get frustrating to some because of its ill planned save system and game clock. It's hard to explain but sometimes you can make a lot of progress, only to literally ruin your entire game because you weren't at a certain place at a certain time. And the save system should've enabled some sort of autosave function, which it sort of has but not the way it should. Also, the AI of the survivors can be pretty clunky sometimes and will do questionable things when you're trying to get them to safety.
There's one problem that this game has which I'm not sure if it affects everyone the same way. The in-game text is really small. Now, I don't have an HDTV at the time of this writing so I don't know if that's where the problem lies but the text is so small that it's really hard to read. Couple this with the fact that a lot of the time, important information is conveyed to you through these text messages and it's entirely possible to miss vital points of info because you just can't read it. Regardless, it's still an inexcusable goof on the part of the developers.
In the end, this game is a lot of fun but I think that people won't fully grasp how to play the game correctly until the first run through. After ending the game, I was able to enjoy it even more the second time around, not to mention that I've saved nearly everyone.
This game is a definite purchase and has great replay value. I didn't even mention the unlockable infinity mode, where you try to stay alive for as long as possible.

Capcom isn't new to the Zombie genre of video games at all. They did, after all, make the Resident Evil series. Dead Rising, however, is almost the polar opposite of Resident Evil. Where as Resident Evil mostly relies on dark environments, jump-out horror and just an overall dark and creepy tone, Dead Rising goes for the more action oriented experience. It's a lot of fun, but unfortunately for Dead Rising, it's cons are big short comings.
You are Frank West, a freelance photojournalist who is going to Willamette, Colorado to get the scoop on what may very well be the biggest story of your career. The millitary has the entire town sealed off, but Frank finds a way in by helicopter. As you get there, you witness the entire town is zombie infested. Frank wants his story, though, and so he has the chopper set him down at the local mall. To make matters even more interesting, Frank orders the helicopter pilot to come pick him up in 72 hours. You have 72 hours to get the story of the year. How you do this is entirely up to you, but you'll find that in the end it's fairly straight-forward with what you'll have to do.
The strongest aspect of Dead Rising is actually the gameplay itself. You'll come across hordes of zombies. Literally hundreds at a time. When facing off against zombies, just about everything you find can be used as a weapon. When I say just about everything, I'm not kidding. You can kick a soccer ball at a zombie, you can pick up trashcans, cash registers, CDs, sledgehammers, weights, dumbells, just about anything lying around. You can even pick up a zombie's arm and start beating other zombies with it. The possibilities for weapons are endless. It would be impossible to list them all here. You can also take an officers gun, but in reality, using a gun is no where near as fun as say... swinging using a lawnmower.
There are several other things you can do as well outside of using just about everything you can pick up as a weapon. You'll be able to pull off some fancy melee moves as well. You can't do all your moves at the beginning, rather most of them are acquired as the game goes on. You'll have to first earn points in order to get things going. Earning points can be done by taking down several zombies, getting survivors to join you, or by taking pictures. Outside of killing zombies, you don't really have to do any of these things. Even if you get a survivor to join up with you, it'll be hard to keep said survivor alive, considering they each have their own uniqueness to them. Some don't know how to use guns, others do. Some you'll find yourself having to carry. Taking photos is also not really neccesary. The photos you take have to be special kinds of photos though. Nothing generic. The less generic the greater your points. The game is almost specifically asking for candid photos.
Throughout your journey you'll also come across various books that'll teach you viable skills you may need to progress further in the game. At one point, for example, you'll have to learn a bit of japanese to persuade couple of japanese tourists to travel with you. Books are also used so that you can operate certain vehicles.
Aside from finding and helping survivors, you have to keep in mind that not every survivor you meet will be on your side. Some of them would rather just kill everything that moves, and you'll have to subdue them.
Also tacked on with the gameplay is it's healing system. As you progress through the game you'll find food scattered throughout the mall that you can use to replenish your health. It's more than just eating and drinking. You can combine certain food and drinks to create mixtures that will boost your health or provide other bonuses such as invincibility. You might also find yourself having to heat up certain foods. You can eat them cold, but they restore more health if you warm them up. It's pretty interesting.
Dead Rising is a fairly large game. The mall is huge, and the zombies are of infinite amount. You'll literally kill thousands (and doing so can net you bonuses) before the game is over. Unfortunately, you can't possibly expect to go on a kill fest and complete the main storyling. The game sports multiple endings, as most free-roam games do, but unfortunately for Dead Rising, you can't take a break from the storyline just to go and kill stuff for the sheer hell of it. You are, after all, on a time limit, and since the game plays out in real time, things could happen to an important character while you were busy killing zombies. It's a drag, but you can always go on a killing spree and then reload your data.
That's another aspect of Dead Rising that suffers. Saving is absolutely terrible. You can only save one file, which is really a drag. So you won't have multiple files. Also, the real time emphasis on the game also hurts the save system. Simply put, if you find yourself trapped, you're not going to get out of it. The good news is, if you find yourself trapped you could easily restart the entire game with all of Frank's levels, abilities and such in tact. You'll be able to get back to where you were fast, but still, that's really just a big pain to have to go through all that again just because you came to realization that the real time emphasis wouldn't let you rescue someone in time.
Rescuing survivors also has it's own downfalls. The missions where you must rescue survivors, or keep them alive can be a bit daunting at times. Especially when you come across survivors which you have to cary because they're injured. These missions are often slow and get repetative. Even worse, the characters that do help you, have mediocre AI. If the survivor dies, you might be unable to see the real ending of the game. Certain characters have to survive. Luckily, the ones that don't are completely optional. The only thing you don't gain from this is the points.
Although, it really does just plain suck when an important character dies and suddently the entire truth of what happened is covered up forever. The real time emphasis of this game will almost insure that you'll have to go through the game twice to see the real (and best) ending. The game will take you nearly twenty hours to complete the first time. The good news is, if you really enjoyed killing off all those zombies, you'll have no problem playing through the game a second time. The problem is, however, that the games cons are really degrading. The unforgiving save system, lackluster AI and real time emphasis might screw you over a couple of times. These aspects certainly will the first time through.
On a small note, Frank also carries a cell phone. This thing goes off constantly until you answer it. It's very annoying. When you do, Frank is unable to do anything to defend himself from being attacked and mauled by zombies. In addition to that, the text is pretty small. If you're sitting far away from your television there's no way you'll be able to read it without getting a little closer.
Dead Rising's overall presentation is rather nice, though. Not just the vast amounts of blood gushing from your enemies, but rather the look, feel, and atmosphere of the game. The game doesn't depend on jump-out humor or simple gross-out aspects. The terror actually comes from these huge hordes of zombies. It's all about whether or not you can survive being mauled by hundreds of zombies at once. The game isn't meant to be scary, it's meant to be filled with action. The best part about this aspect is that the game doesn't slow down at all. Several zombies can be packed on screen and the game will still run perfectly and smoothly. Even better, not every zombie is the same. Some zombies are more aggressive than others, while some really will stagger around as if they really don't know whether or not they're supposed to attack you. Some zombies will punch at you, others will try to bite you. You'll enconter a different variety of them. The game also looks really good overall. Most zombies are wearing something entirely unique, and your characters are really smooth and lavish. This is one of the best looking XBOX360 games out there.
The music isn't particularly memorable, but it's got a couple of tracks here and there that can be good. Mostly, though, you'll be more blown away by the voice acting. Each character sounds and acts really well in this game. Especially the characters who have gone over the edge. Some voice acting is a little too over the top, but it's forgiveable. The important thing is, no one slouches on the voice acting. What may actually be one of the best aspects in the sound department is how the weapons and such sound. Each and everyone weapon has a unique and distinct sound effect that sounds completely realistic. It's a fairly small thing to look at, but it goes to show that video games have come quite a long way within the past twenty years.
Dead Rising is really a mixed bag. It really is a good game, it's just that it's problems aren't little things. They're typically big things that should've gotten more attention. So Dead Rising is good, but it's shortcomings just aren't so short in the long run.
On the positive side
+Addictive gameplay
+Interesting story (once you get passed the intro)
+Very vivid and vibrant game
+Fantastic graphics
+Fantastic voice acting
+And overall unique style
+Multiple endings
+Very innovative. Just about everything is a weapon. The possibilities of dealing with your enemies are endless, and it makes for some devastating good gameplay
On the negative side
-The Save System is unforgiving when mixed with the emphasis on real time... especially considering you've only got one slot to save on
-Rescuing survivors is not always fun, and soon gets repetative
-Some of your allies AI is really daunting
-It's far too easy to screw up your chances of getting the best ending, the game almost has to be played through twice just to see the main ending
Disgusting lack of detail

Does this game have zombies you can kill? Yes. Does it have any of the other features capcom promised us? NO. Not only is the main character annoying, and all of his buddies are dumb as dirt, the gameplay just isn't good. You cannot fire a gun without plenty of frustration and most likely you will miss your target. Don't try to understand the plot, there is none. The game allows you to interact with more objects than probably any game before it, but definitely not everything you hoped for. It's pretty much sword, wood, lawnmower and vehicle, and everything else is the same thing with a different name (baseball bat = wooden plank). Don't buy this game. If anything, play the demo or even enjoy it at a friend's house, but don't waste your money (or time).

Zombies...a Hatian Voodoo myth that has turned into more of a social commentary on how we would all like to mow down our fellow citizens with chainsaws, guns, and lawn mowers without the guilt(Because their "Zombies" not humans after all)or prison time associated with such actions. Sociopathic to say the least....but I digress with the Freud.
A guilty pleasure ruined by many things as I will list below;
BAD THINGS
The game Dead Rising gives us the role of an idiotic photographer for the protagonist instead of our usual cop, soldier, martial arts master. Which is not bad of an idea... but dumb to say the least. You take pictures of Zombies eating people to get alot of points which in turn gives you expierence points for health, item/weapon slots and a whole arensal of usesless martial arts moves.
The Health items and weapons share the same slots wich can cause problems in combat...Example: When your bat breaks and there is a jug of milk in your next slot, it will make you drink it and then that leaves you open to an attack.
The guys who made this were rank amatures as shown by the poorly developed mechanics that alot of people hyped as great.
The character pauses after each attack animation,Most of your melee weapons break too fast and unrealisticly. Shooting mechanics are so crappy, you might as well not use guns at all! If it was not for the fact most of the bosses use GUNS! Plus ammo is scarce and most combat is up close. Vehicles are your best weapon...but are few and far between and are destroyed easily.
Your allies are pretty much as usefull as a pair of lips on your foot.
Yeah it was kind of funny when the guy with the overalls shoots himself when the zombies got at him...the Irony.
Zombies are not much of a main character as they are just an anoying organic enviromental hazard that impeads you rather than challenge you.
Killing them with the massive array of usually semi-useful weapons gets old after the first few hours. The only part I really enjoyed was running over like a thousand of them with the box truck...but it was pointless.
The most grievous of all was the save feature....OH MY GOD! NES games
had better save feaures. You could get really far and played for 4 hours like I did and DIE and start back all over again because there is no auto save (unlike Fable for example) the save points are too few and too far between. And the save system is broken when you save anyway. Terrible! I consider myself forgiving of video games and give them second chances and finish them at least, But I could not with this one because of that poor save feature.
THE GOOD
The Mall looks great! The character models are decent looking, animate well and a huge amount of zombies appear on screen and are rendered very well and do not slow down the frame rates. Your character looks good except he has a forehead you could play an 8mm film on and he walks like he crapped himself...(Probaly did that trying to find a BATHROOM to save!) Nice lighting and outdoor effects. Character is customizable but the feature is useless... initial clothing choices could be bad and could take you a while to find good threads.
Conclustion:
If you are very forgiving of the save feature and the other laundry list of terrible problems you might enjoy this game. I for one did not and will not play it again until Capcom releases a patch to address the save and a few other issues. (Which they will not)
Verdict:
Buyer Beware! Rent it First!!!
Alternate Product Recomendation: Resident Evil 4. (PS2,Gamecube,Wii)
Excellent story,Likeable Protagonist,Inspired Zombies and Bosses,Much Better Save Feature,Excellent gun and melee combat,
Much better representaion of the Genre.
