FUN! But...

I'll keep the review short, the game IS a lot of fun. What isn't fun is the the horrible saving interface. You have to go to specific areas of the game to save, so my advice is, find those areas and go there often. Its not as easy as it sounds. I didn;t realize that going into it, and of course, I played for almost 2 hours and died only to realize that I had to start from the begining Doop! =)

An absolute blast!

The game may seem dull and repetitive to those who have yet to play it, but rest assured, the first time you break a flower pot over a zombie's head, you'll be hooked. A must-have!

Well I just got this game yesterday and started to play it. First the graphics are good if not awesome on the opening sequences. But then when you start to play the game there seems to digress from there. The areas where you can open up or pick up items looks very small. Then when you want to talk to someone you do not hear voices with dialog you just see dialog. I have a 29" T.V. and I still cannot read the words because they are so tiny. I imagine if you had a HDTV or Plasma it would be a little sharper but tjis is due to it's size. Then when you are trying to find people you click to your map and there is no GPS or flashing area to wander in to find that person. All you can do is say "Is anyone there?" or run amok into all the Zombies which was not very helpful. Then on top of that you have to take photos of what is going on. And the AI that is with you are pretty stupid the other Photographer got me killed when I bumped into him. I give this about a 6 out of 10 myself.

This Game is Intense!!!

Ive never seen a game quite like dead rising its the perfect zombe game.Your Frank West a photo journalist whos checkin out this town in CO which is also were i live but anyway you can use almost anything as a weopon its amazingnot every thing is useful but still fun to use from chucking a carton of milk at a zombie to blowing its head off with a sniper rifle its a complete blood bath the prob is when u 1st get the game dont expect to b able to take on any boses when i 1st got the game i couldnt even get near beatin any of the boses but as you get farther it gets sooo much easier soo dont worry if when u 1st get the game u cant kill any zombies as you gain levels thel get easier. The other part is you have to b at a certain place at a certain time always or the will take the plot right out and you wont get to figure out were these zombies are comin from inless you restart and get to were they want u to go and trust me you will want to because the story of the game is brilliant.
Theres soo much to do also you can take pics of zombies to gain PP or save as many people as you can or try to kill as many zombies as you can or follow the story sooo possibilties are endless wats realy kool is how realistic the envirments are it really fun lookin place to kill zombies at and theres sooo many places to explore and check out.Im now gona try to name as much weopons as i can to end my review handgun, shotgun, sub machine gun, sniper rifle, katana, battle axe, shovel,Bat,propane tank, car, truch, motor cycle, bike, skate board, knife, cleaver, machetie, golf club, super soaker, cash register, soccer ball, lawn mower, sludge hammer, lead pide,2x4,paint can, bucket, toy light saber, sikle, friss bee, unbrela, teddy bear, frying pan, mop, katchep bottle, wine bottle,OJ,Milk, apples, pie, fire extinguiser, hedge cliper, stun gun, shower head, nail gun, guitar, elecric guitar, garbage can, hanger, pot, golf club and theres proboble more im missing

The Great "If Only They Had..." Game

This game is perhaps one of the biggest disappointements I've had yet on the XBOX 360. But before I explain why the average gamer (and possibly even a game-freak like myself) is going to throw up his hands and start cursing...let me say first that as far as Zombie killer games goes, visually and game-play wise, this is the BEST game thus far. So why is the game so flawed then?

Two simple things ruin this game. First, there is a time limit you must fight against. That even wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the second glaring flaw in this game's design...ONLY ONE (yes that's right) ONE SAVE SLOT.

What this means is that if you miss even the slightest thing on a level, you are doomed to the BAD ending (there are multiple endings in this, and the bad endings are really bad and leave you feeling really depressed.)

Also, if you miss something, you may end up having that not so rare glitch of being unable to progress because you skewed the plot the wrong way. (This should have been a completely free-flowing game...but it isn't. It's very linear...reminiscent of Capcom's Resident Evil series.)

The biggest "bummer" is that these two flaws (a time limit and only one save slot) prevent you from exploring the awesome mall (graphics are amazingly detailed) and developing your character. He has loads of hidden abilities and learns how to kill Zombies in progressively fiendish ways that are hilarious to see.

Together these two flaws have the ultimately fatal result of NOT letting you spend time killing zombies (which is why we all buy the game in the FIRST place.) Instead, you must run and avoid the zombies while struggling to fulfill the very complicated plot sequence. If you spend too much time killing the zombies you run out of time and loose the game.

My guess is that someone did all this to enhance re-playability...but the Grand Theft Auto series does this without forcing you into an aritficial time line and giving you ONE save slot thereby crippling your ability to explore and fix a mistake if you fub the game plot.

Be warned: If you do not have a game guide for this game, you will most likely "loose" or reach a point where you run out of time trying to figure out what to do next.

All this is a big "bummer" because what you really want is the unlockable survival mode of the game...but to get this you have to first beat the frustrating "story" mode of the game.

This game is very schizophrenic in that it's so fun for about the first hour of game play...and then you realize you are running out of time, or overlooked a crucial element in the plot and then saved at the WRONG time hence doing irreparable damage. (This explains the five-star/two-star rating.)

I'd have loved to give this a higher over-all rating...but I can see someone who is just starting out gaming trying to play this game and getting really, really mad...(not to mention an old gamer like me who starts mumbling, "Hey, that's just like Resident Evil ONE!!! I thought they'd have fixed that by now!!!")

My advice: get a good used copy of the game...and try to find a game guide (You can still get them through Amazon.com) and then sit down with the game guide beside you and work your way through the basic game step by step until you unlock the more fun mode. Any attempt at doing it yourself is going to get frustrating and will necessitate multiple re-starts. And remember XBOX 360 controllers are expensive and sensitive pieces of equipment...so don't throw it when you get mad at the game. I have a punching bag in my laundry room...but there were times when even that didn't help.

If only Capcom hadn't put a time limit on the game...or failing that, just ONE MORE save slot. Even the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy on Nintendo was easier to complete than this game (goes to show how long I've been playing games...eh?)

So play at your own risk, get a game guide, and a punching bag.

Entertaining

Dead Rising is one of those games that kind of come out of nowhere when a developer decides to take a chance on a new property. Dead Rising does almost everything right, you can kill zombies with any thing you can find to pick up or drive. The only problem I had was that the save system was a little harsh, you had to hike to the security center just to save if a bathroom wasn't around. Dead Rising has become one of my favorite games for the 360.
