Replay value is infinite. This game is just too great. I hope they make a sequel set somewhere else. This game is seriously engrossing, so watch out if you don't already have a lot of time on your hands!

Easily one of the most essential games to own if you have a 360, and a strong stomach. The game is revolutionary, stunning, hilarious, exciting, and also the most frustrating game I have ever played. You play as Frank West, a photojournalist looking for the perfect scoop, in this third person survival horror/action game. The story isn't exactly brilliance but it sets up the game nicely. You have exactly 72 hours (not actual time) to put together all the pieces of these "case files", which are collected throughout the game. During these 72 hours your free to roam around the ENTIRE mall and basically do...whatever you want. Another part of the game is taking pictures, which can be very, very funny, and earns you "Prestige Points" to help you level up during the game. After leveling up, there are various results. Such as learning new combat moves, a health increase, etc. I've never experienced so much freedom in one game before. The Boss "Psychopaths" are also a riot. But let me make one thing clear. This game is probably the most frustrating, anger inducing, and maddening things I have ever seen. After replaying it though a couple of times it gets to be a little easier. Although the game play is a blast, the graphics are great it's the absolute mood and tone of the game that really seals the deal. And for 39.99, there is no other way to spend your money. Try to enjoy it more than become consumed by it. Otherwise, you won't be a happy shopper.
Great fun but room for improvement.

This game is amazing. Huge mobs of killable zombies roaming around, violent deaths, weapons everywhere and a Jackie Onasses dress with your name on it in the local womans clothing store. After i put on the pink dress and my lego helmet i began killing zombies with a shower spout. HUGE HUGE FUN.
Room for improvement would definetly be the save system. It's frustrating to have to run for 10 minutes to find a save location, especially when your girflriend is screaming at you about how much you play Dead Rising.
A must own game for any 360 owners, but not without its faults

Dead Rising is an Exciting new game by the same brilliant minds of developers CAPCOM(whom brought you Resident Evil 4, Killer 7, DMC). The Game follows the footsteps of Frank, a War Journalist who is trying to figure out just what the hell is going on in the city of Colorado. Long story short, some baddies have brought a horrible virus that has turned the entire(or almost)population to flesh eating cannibals. Now Frank has to uncover the truth(in a mall, DAWN OF THE DEAD, hmmm???)and has to get it within the course of the 3 days before he leaves the town. But as you get deeper into the games story you'll meet up with some likable characters whom are also there to you help you on your quest to finding how what the hell is been goin on this messed town, and also some unlikable people, but those are mainly the villains.
Dead Rising is deffinetly one of the most unique games on the 360. Its a free roaming(sort of)action adventure game that lets you use many random items as your weapons and damn do they help you out a lot. For example, if there is a about maybe 100 to 200 zombies in a certain area and you have a baseball bat, USE IT and i mean use till you've gotten to your destination and more importantly...bashed some brains. Speaking of which Dead Rising is very "From Point a to point d" oriented. You will be doing missions and side quests which pins you to run from part of the mall to another part of it and the mall is quit huge. The game is just plain fun and it never got boring for me once. The game also has a level up system which lets you expand your stats like Running faster, increased attack hits and even expands your items holding(as you level up you can hold more items). At first the it will be on the hard side as you are on a very low level with not much stats build for you so prepare to be romped on as I found the game pretty difficult in the beginning parts, but as you get better with new skills and such the game gos from frustrating to just challenging. The reason also being is that the game chuck full of zombies and I mean CHUCK FULL of it. There will be times when your in a room just vomiting zombies at every corner...its truly a site to see and is one of the first few 360 game to come out and show the graphical potential of the 360. Speaking of that, Dead Rising is a very pretty game and has HANDS DOWN the best looking zombie visuals and character models i have ever seen on any console. Sure it has a couple of frame rate hiccups but usually when you're shooting a handful of zombies in your area(more preferably the very end of the game when you fight the boss on a tank)but it really doesn't affect that much. The sound is also top notch, the music is really awesome in parts like the park with the convicts. Controls are just right aswell.
I really wanted to give the game the a 5/5 but it sure does have its flaws. One being that the A.1 is very retarded. When you want to rescue Survivors they should have had an option where you can hold EACH AND EVERYONE of there hands because dealing with these morons is like dealing with a toddler. Trust me there will be times when the woman or man you're saving is going to just run into the wall and keeping doing it for the next 20 minutes until you do something about it. Its gos from fun to downright FRUSTRATING. Also some of the bosses are a real pain, one I can remember was the gun shop owner(man that guy was A PAIN)but it feels really rewarding as I did get to have the Gun shop store all to myself(with unlimited amounts of shotties and rifles..shigghty shiggity sweet)in which these parts are very "Rewarding" felt or something like that..Blah. Saving can also be a pain as it feels like a fetch quest since the mall is limited of Save stations(which play as bathrooms and such). Blah lets get to this
The Good
-Visualy Awesome, one of the best looking games on the 360
-Very fun and unique experience
-Lots of items and weapons to choose from
-doing everything will take a good 30 to 40 hours
-Pretty cool plot in my opinion
-IT TAKES PLACE IN A MALL, CMON MAN!!! THATS AWESOME
-Pretty gory, violent fun. Not for the lil ones
-Good Music
-awesome cutscenes
-Chuck full of Bosses and some are really memerable like the clown
The Bad
-Can get very difficult at times
-Some Bosses are real pain
-Saving the A.1 is like trying to get a Baby to walk...at times atleast
-Regular plot with the real ending talks only about 10 to 12 hours to beat :(
-Lots of Load Times between mall which can get annoying
-Needed more weapons like DOUBLE KATANA or something cause they didnt have much on the weapons other then a pistol, shotties, rifle ect. Your standard weapon
-Some Framerate hitches but not to the point where its downright Horrible..but still capcom could of fixed this
Overall Dead Rising is a must get for any 360 owners or anyone who is fan of the zombie genre in general(like myself). Its a very unique and unforgettable experience, not to mention one of my fav 360 games ever(it was my first 360 game acctually). Loads of fun, from start to finish. Anyone looking to blast some undead heads should be checkin this game asap. Put simply...Dead Rising is an awesome THOUGH FLAWED game...

This game suprised me honestly. You'll find it to be more difficult than it looks and I challenge you to complete the whole storyline the first time you play through it. This inevitably makes the replay value high. Odds are you won't uncover all the different plots and find all of the survivors your first time through.
The graphics are pretty good. They could be a little better I suppose but it's nothing that takes away from the game itself. The game is funny and creative with the different ways you can choose to take on the zombie hordes and the storyline is enough to keep you playing it until the very end.
This game does have its problems though. The text, for one, was so small that I couldn't even read it. I've heard on an HDTV this isn't a problem but there should've been a setting to make text bigger for the little guy. Also saving the survivors is a daunting task as they are completely without brains and tend to get caught on walls and doors and such. The A.I. could've been better.
Also, I think it's rediculous I'm reading phrases at the bottom of the screen when there could be something better. Like voice acting. I figure that would be a no brainer but I suppose maybe this game was kind of rushed to get out.
That being said, it's still an enjoyable game and worth picking up. Especially for the Resident Evil/Silent Hill survival horror fan.

finding new and creative ways to kill and humiliate zombies never gets old!
Your enjoyment of this game largely depends on what style gamer you are. Since GTA is my catch I'll use that for comparison. If you ran through GTA for the storyline and were done, this game might not be for you. It will take a week or two (depending on how much time you have to play) of good solid play and the main story is finished. But if you are like me and obsessively need to find every little award, item, and Easter egg. And/or can have just as much fun running around inventing chaos as you did with the story. Then you will probably love this game as much as I do.
The game is honestly challenging (a rarity these days), and everyone's complaints about the text is based on reality. I have a 42" HDTV, and it is not blurry at all. When your little helpers call you on the radio to give you "missions" the text is on the small side. I need to actually focus on it for a second to be able to read it from across the room. But everything else is just fine. Another reviewer mentioned adjusting the TV settings as a resolution. I think this may be perfectly valid. I gave it 4 stars overall because the game may not be for everyone, despite how much fun i'm having
I love this game! Maybe you will, maybe you won't. As I said before; like killing hookers in GTA, finding new and creative ways to kill and humiliate zombies never gets old!

Once you get your levels up and the controls down, this game is a blast; I recommend the guide to help with some 'hazy' objectives(some timelines can be confusing; what to complete by when, that sort of thing...). Otherwise, this game is simply alot of fun. Things get pretty crazy(you battle not only zombies, but cult members and the military), and I have to say that the human villians are much more evil than any of the undead(fat, lesbian security guard...I'm looking at you!). I have played this game 5 times since I got it, and each time I figure out something new...One of the funnest game titles on any system in a long time; Sharp graphics(esp. considering the amount of stuff going on and the vast number of zombies everywhere)and cool mall music. Love the 2 x 4's; My only complaint is that the save system blows, so remember where those bathrooms are. If the save system were better and the objectives were a little more clear, this would be a 5 star overall game; But it's pretty damn close.

ok i was reading the reviews of why this game is poorly made.
this game is about a year old, and still fun. the whole game is about this guy named Frank West. and he is also a reporter. He's in a helicopter and sees a mob in the city. eventually he decides to go inside a mall. once he lands on the rooftop, he tells the pilot to come back for 3 days. thats when the nightmare begins.
-learn several moves to kill zombies
-save survivors
-discover the truth
-RE4 fans will love this
-kill phycopaths
-and KILL ZOMBIES
A very nice game with a few things to address

First thing this a very good deal if you buy it from amazon at about $29 us. Second this game has some annoying issues. The first and most odvious bug is the save system since the game only offers one save slot during the entire game and no checkpoints or quick save available. This can be very frustrating cause it is a time-based game, and if you take much time doing any sccop mission or just wandering around killing zombies, and just cant get to the next main case file on time this means you have to start the game over. Eventhough you can always choose to continue playing, the main case files to be resolved will be lost so you can still keep playing around doing scoops and chopping zombies but without any sense in my point of view. Also, the aiming system for fire waepons is very poor. So just consider this inst into the shooter genre but rather into the action adventure. However not everything is wrong with this game since it is extremely fun and addicting. The stupid puzzles from the RE and other capcom series have been taken out which is great. Therefore what the final result is that this is an entire action aventure game with neither any puzzle solving nor really horror sequences. This game is rather a bit disturbing with a lot of blood, gore blended with humor and some dismenbering. The graphics for this game are quite good and next gen, though it is nothing you havent seen before. The computer controlled AI of the game is quite decent when it has to do when the zombies and even the bosses, however is horrible with the mall survivors which you can often choose to save to gain PP(Prestige Points) for more skills. At the end and despite the issues that can be encountered during the game, this game offers a good deal of replay since everytime you choose save and quit, your current staus will be saved so when you start the game over Frank will be more skillful. I would recommend this game to buy for anyone who has enjoyed the RE series or action adventure series. Trust me this game despite being silly at times is tons of fun. Great purchase for me......it came from amazon in exellent condition and totally sealed and new.

This game alone was the reason I went with the Xbox 360. Well, that and looking forward to Halo 3--which I still haven't gotten around to buying. I'm a hardcore zombie fan, so anything with undead as title characters is a sure sell with me.
So the story picks right up and sucks you in. There isn't a lot to distract you in the cutscenes besides Carlito's ridiculous getup. The voice acting is good and the directing's great. Some of them, especially a bit with a security feed, do an excellent job of setting up the atmosphere.
After several minutes of plot, you're set loose in the mall. Great care was taken to make sure that combat with the zombies is fun. It never, ever gets old. Just about anything you could lift in real life can be used as a weapon--sometimes even other zombies.
But you don't get overconfident, because anyone who's played this through will tell you: sometimes, when a zombie hits you, that's all she wrote--because you'll stagger out of control right into another hit, then right into a bite, then into another hit, and then you're dead.
Still, aside from achievements, there's not much to actually gain from killing zombies. There's a small PP (exp) bonus for every 500 and a few special kill count bonuses, but that's small potatoes next to what you earn for rescuing survivors, so concentrate on that and dodge the rotters. Save those (and many other) achievements for Infinity Mode, when you're not on the clock.
The two normal story modes, in which Frank tries to stay alive until rescue -and- get the story of the zombies rising, can be terribly stressful. The game's total playing time is 8 hours, so it's pretty short, and you really feel that trying to get from place to place in the mall. You want to rescue survivors, or kill zombies, or maybe you'd like to explore the mall--sorry, no time. The end result is you feel a bit rushed.
Oh, and Otis Must Die. This character calls you unceasingly with useless observations about where you are. Sometimes it's worth answering--he might tell you about a survivor--but not often. To make matters worse, you can't attack or jump while he's talking to you. And he loves to call you while you're in the middle of a crowd of zombies.
Infinity Mode, on the other hand, is grand fun. In this mode it's Frank versus the world and the dreaded clock is gone. The only point is to survive for as long as you can. This gives you all sorts of opportunities to experiment and play around. I unlocked a lot of my achievements using this mode. I can also occupy myself for quite a while building forts out of random objects and seeing how long they hold off the zombies. This mode just never gets old. Can't stress that enough. The best thing about playing through the main storyline is unlocking this game mode.
All in all, this is worth having in your collection. Not the shining star I was hoping for, but well worth my investment.
