This game is fun to play from the moment you put it in the disk drive. You basically get to fight zombies with any object you want. It is very addicting and very graphic. If you don't like crude violence then this game isn't for you. Things I didn't like was the plot progression. It takes awhile to progress through the missions and is easy to mess up and have to start all over... so remember to save.

Dead Rising is a refreshing substitute until Resident Evil 5 comes out. It is a zany action survival-horror game with the ability to pick up any weapon and bash, shoot, stab, slice, or chop zombies or the endless crazy people who reside in the mall. It's not a scary game by any means, it's just a hilarious game of blood, guts, and dismemberment. The zombies at times have the same looks as others but that's never really bothersome, there are some targeting issues as well, along with save problems. This is a stellar title that should not be missed because of how fun it is to kill zombies and take pictures of gruesome scenes like the chick who falls off a building in the beginning. Seriously, go buy this game right now unless you're squeamish.

I like killing zombies as much as the next guy but this game just falters in two many areas, mostly the fact that your mission instructions and other help from your allies come as text whose font is much to small to be read on a low def tv with a small screen, which I happen to have. So you can't play this game to any sucess without the guide book, and the guide book of course ruins the achievement of making it through the game on your own. And the save system absolutely sucks there is no excuse for it.
Dont buy it, rent it.
Great game for Zombie fans!

Really fun, very interactive surroundings. Lots of gore, but not too much for a fan of the genre. My new fav!!!

Frank West, freelance photojournalist, opts to hitch a ride into a mysterious little town and finds this little encounter basically handing him a story beyond his wildest dreams. The problem is that the story has teeth and a population count of about 52,000 - give or take a few undead.
While Dead Rising is initially set-up as a game where you have 72 hours to get "the scoop" and get out, it doesn't really limit you to that type of gameplay. If you like saving people you can do it, if you like watching people die while you take nice picture of it you can do that, and if you like going into restaurants and blending up exotic drinks you can do that as well. The game has a format that it wants you to play out and it rewards you with achievement points, but some of those achievements are rather odd - and rather off the beaten path. This leads to some of the best gameplay out there if you are in the mood to slap around some zombies BUT anyone, even the most diehard fans, can point out some of the failings in the game.
Of all the flaws in the game, the worst has to be the AI of the survivors. When you find someone and you want to save them, you basically have to beg the gaming gods for a break because those people simply want to die. It isn't because they aren't armed (you can give them weapons) and it isn't because they don't have a nice support system (you become a one-man army). They are simply terrible at plotting anything save their own demise.
The second terror the game gives you is a terrible aiming system, and that's kind of bad when you're talking survival. You'll be aiming at something and you'll swing the wrong way or you'll be punching at one thing and find yourself stuck in a meaningless combo, pressing buttons and hoping this hell will end.
How I hate that stuff.
Of the great things in the game, there are the variety of weapons, the way you can level up, and the fact that the game is one big Dawn of the Dead playpen with a camera attached. You can pick up compact discs and throw them (I like to pretend that the zombies suffer audio shock like I do when they get hit with a bad shiny pile of sonnets from artist I don't want to hear), find swords and knives and guns a-plenty, and you can get your hands on garden utensils and lawnmowers and all types of other equipment. Along the way, you pick up points for a variety of things (taking pictures, killing, saving people, kicking a new move in just the right way) and find yourself leveling up. This means that you get more powerful, get more life, and so on.
There are a lot more facets to this game, some good and some bad, but the end result is a great play where you get to play undead tag. It has a plot to play out, some really interesting features, and makes for great play for the pricetag that the 360 now has on it. Combining that with a love for horror games and the need to run rampant in a mall full of zombies and you have something that I absolutely love BUT can see people seeing problems with.
All of that said, if it seems fun to you it probably will be and I can't fault it for having faults of its own because it was one of the first (and possibly best) release titles.
Awesome game!

Dead Rising is a sandbox-adventure-horror. One of the things that you will notice right off is the amount of things you can use to fight off the undead baddies. The story is great. I would not recommend this title for "the young ones," It can get a little graphic. There is a multitude of bosses to choose from, you can fight almost whoever you choose. After you beat the game (which will take some time) You unlock overtime mode. Its replay value is very high. If you don't want to take it from me just look up the demo on Xbox Live.

I remember years ago when I bought Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo 64. I held the game in my hands dreaming of fighting thousands of zombies, barricading myself in abandoned houses (or malls...), all kinds of things Mr. Romero instilled in me years ago. Sadly, I didn't really get anything I wanted even though it was a great game.
Fast forward to the present, Dead Rising gave me everything I could want in a zombie game. There's so much to do, but the beauty is you don't HAVE to do any of it. Unlike RE2, you can choose to decline the missions presented to you, you can choose to not rescue survivors. Its a very open environment, and honestly I love everything about it. Completely worth the money.
The only thing that could make it better would if Fly boy, Bub, or Mr. Romero himself made an appearance...

FUN FUN FUN! thats all I'm going to say for the most part. Good replay value the only problem is you really need to have the time and fortitude for all the zombie bashing. like seriously its a very time consuming game... but i love it all the same ^^

Dead Rising is a zombie fan's dream come true. Taking a page from Dawn of the Dead, you play as freelance photojournalist Frank West, and you have 72 hours to get your story and get out of the zombie-infested mall that you now find yourself in. What makes Dead Rising so much fun is the sheer number of ridiculous and bloody ways you can take out your zombie attackers, using just about anything you find in the mall as a weapon. The mall itself is wonderfully designed as well, as it always seems as if there is something new to discover. The game's story is intriguing as well, offering a bit of satirization of the current political climate, and the little touches in the game, from being able to take pictures to the buckets of blood, are fantastic. What hurts Dead Rising is the handful of technical issues that really mar what is otherwise a would-be spectacular game. The escort missions, which you will be taking part in quite frequently, are annoying more than anything else, mainly due to the fact that the AI of those you're escorting is less than flattering. Also, the game's save system is frequently glitchy, and often detracts from the game's real time world and structure. Flaws aside however, Dead Rising offers much to enjoy; from great graphics and voice acting to some nice homages to classic zombie movies, the game is a real treat. All in all, Dead Rising is one of the best and original third-party experiences to find on the XBox 360, and if you've missed out on it so far, you should definitely give it a look at the very least.
