Before buying this game, look at ANY review by a professional reviewer, such as in the magazines/ internet sites EGM, PSM, or ign.psx (recommended). You can even look at the two biggest RPG (role- playing game) sites on the net, rpgamer and thegia (URL's aren't allowed in amazon reviews). EVERY ONE has given this game anything from a 1/5 to a 5/10, very bad scores. Do you know why? It's because Sony has tried to rip everything off the Final Fantasy series but has failed on every level except graphics. It has claimed to be the "Final Fantasy killer" but comes nowhere near. This is Sony's first attempt at an RPG and IT SHOWS! Three years in the making and nothing to show for it.

Basically, the problem with this game is that it isn't fun. The worst of many flaws is that the battle engine is extremely tedious, the text reads like it was translated by third- graders, and the characters and plot is the most overused, unoriginal, and uninteresting that I've ever seen. I don't want anyone to make same the mistake of buying it. The reason why it has received such good reader reveiws is because those readers haven't played enough RPG's to see how unoriginal this title is, or they just were really impressed by the graphics.

The graphics and FMV are GREAT but nothing can make up for the mess that is the rest of the game. Maybe if you like graphics you should just rent the CD and watch the FMV's with a .str player available off the internet or watch Star Wars: Episode One again, because it has much better CG than LOD. Many of the good reader reviews are also because those readers saw lowsy professional reviews for the game and got angry and defensive. None of those readers mentioned those terrible reviews given by professional reveiwers, though, so I'm telling you now. Try Final Fantasy VIII, Xenogears, Legend of Mana, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Castlevania, Breath of Fire III, or just about any other game before trying.

What a disaster of a game!

Is there anything I don't hate about this game??

First of all, the characters. To me, the cast of characters should lift the story up and bring you along.
I've never seen such a horrible cast of a game.

The hero seems to be completely brain-dead without any oppinion at all, he is pushed around by every girl he meets and agrees to anything they say. He basically dosen't have any feelings at all.

Then there's Shana, his love interest. Oh, right, the game tries to make it non-obvious that they will fall in love.
Especially a scene in the castle, there are 3 girls and only one dress, boo-hoo, who should where it?
Shana: Maybe I can wear it?
Yes, how non-intentional, then Hero and Shana fall in love. Yuck!
But the worst part about Shana is how un-caring she is.
One of the hero's best friends dies, it is a very emotional time in his life.
What does she tell him?
"We should be happy! Your friend would have wanted that!"
And the hero agrees!!!
If somebody would have said that to me when my best friend died, I would never speak to them again!

Then there's the "dark bimbo" character, a brat anime girl, some giant.
They couldn't have screwed up the giant any worse, instead of his growling sounds when he attacks, he has the sound of - the hero's dead best friend!!!

But the character who is the worst of them all, is some man in purple who tags along. I'll call him Idiot for this example.
Idiot has a kind, caring and love-able daughter who tries her best at all.
She and her dads starts talking, he gets angry and accuses her of something she didn't do, she pleads him for forgiveness.
What does he do?
He SLAPS her.
Understandable, she runs away from home and dosen't come back again.
But guess what?
mr Idiot joins your team with the sob story "I don't know why my daughter ran away, boo-hoo, I have to find her."
And guess what - hero dosen't care!
URGH, I hated Idiot so much, he was the reason I stopped playing.

The battle system was awful, you have to do combos for the character to be able to hit. Every single battle.
You are not allowed to bring more than 32 items - including HP refillments!
So you have to spend half of the battle defending to get HP backm, and the monster stills hits your other characters, so your HP never gets full anyway.

I hated this game so much.

This game was one of the greatest game i ever played. I have to say that the graphics of this game was a perfect ten. There is no way you can badmouth the storyline and the cinematic movies and i have to say that this game is good enough to challenge Final Fantasy 7 as One of the best RPG's ever made. Seeing how other Sony RPG were so disappointing, Sony reedemed theirselves with this powerful Four disk adventure. It is game worth checking out.

This game is by far, the best I have ever played. The graphics, the story, the characters... It is absolutely PERFECT!

Graphics: 5 stars

The graphics are really good. Everything has good detail and is very well designed.

Storyline/Plot: 5 stars

By far, the strongest point in the game. The story really is well-balanced and has really good twists. Every part is so well explained and nothing is left open. The story is very well described and is told with a lot of detail.

CG "movies": 5 stars

The CGs are awsome! They seem so real and have such good graphics. The CG of the Dragon Campaign showed really good detail of the war. It was a really cool fight, but it had it's casualties.

Music: 4 stars

Not exactly the strongest point in the game, but there is some good music.

Characters: 5 stars

The characters are really cool. They all have their own objectives and have really cool abilities.

Overall: 5 stars

This game really is cool. Everything is so perfectly made, and all of it fits in with the main storyline. The characters fit in with the plot with their own special roles. The music varys according to what's going on in the game, and the CG "movies" play a very important role in keeping the gamer aware of what is going on with certain points in the game. Everthing in this game is exciting and has perfect twists leading up to the ending.

How should I state this game?...hmmmm..........It's great!

This game straight up rules. It blows the doors off final fantasy 9, and i hate to say this after being such a big fan of the series, and just barly beats out chrono cross as the best playstation rpg to date. Many people will diagree with me on this, but the haven't played this game yet or like pokemon too much. This game rules in the factors that it is easy to learn, donen't waste your time like final fantasy 8, it is the second most original rpg, second only to vagrant story, the dragon outfites they wear are tight as hell, and the story eats you alive, and the grafics have to be some of the best seen on a 32 bit game. Some of the drawbacks include the enimes arn't as original or cool looking as final fantasy, and you might end up getting fat from sitting in front of your tv for 12 hours a day playing it. A 4 cd epic, you have to own this, and i think that it is the best playstation rpg and second only to metal gear solid and final fantasy tactics as the greatest ps game ever. Buy this, i am almost temped to buy it for you this game it is so good, but i must save my money to buy a bigger sword in the game.

Great Game

This is a great game, its funny, fun, exciting, and mkaes you actually think in some parts. It starts with Dart (Main Character), in the woods, and then he gets attacked by a big green dragon, and then another character comes in and saves Dart.

You go on into Seles, and run into some enemies. They are very tough since you only do about 1 or 2 damager per hit. Well, this isn't a walkthrough, but there are tons of walkthroughs about this game.

I suggest that you level up any chance you get, there are some really tough monsters in this game. It is a fun game.

The sad thing is, wherever I walk, there are 10 games almost exactly like it. I mean this game is almost exactly like Final Fantasy 7, the main character has a big sword in both, both have a girl that they keep around and. There are many similarities between the two, and I am just rambling on.

I've read a lot of the reviews, and most are right in what they say and I agree with them, but I like the game, and I hope you like it too, happy hunting.

Now, you have probably heard alot of reviews saying: oh the grammar is bad, and the music is redundant, and BLAH BLAH BLAH. But PLEASE!!!!! Who really pays attention to that stuff. Oh and to the person who said this game is at a third grade reading level, i've got news for you. In both FF8 and FF9 they say things like: "Squall your so stubborn" and "Already?my charm must be working." I mean I'm not dissing either of those games because I have them and LOVE them, but lay off okay. And though the cinematics aren't very frequent they are KICK ASS!! Like in the second disc where it shows the dragoon war, can it get ANY BETTER?!?! So though there are a few grammatical errors, this is a must have for any gamer.

Legend of Dragoon has an awesome plot, an admirable battle system, and the worst graphics imaginable. Even as you try to twist your mind through thrilling scenarios and time yourself perfectly during battles, you have to admit: the game needs remodeling.

Still, when, and not if, youget this game, I have advice: 1. Pay attention to the plot, or it will slip under your feet. 2. Expect the expected, ignore the unexpected. 3. Save as often as possible, so you're not bothered TOO much when the game crashes.
