I tried to like this game. I really, really tried. It looks very impressive upon first glance. 4 discs, excellent FMV, a nice opening vocal. Looks pretty good, right?
Wrong.
From beginning to end, Legend of Dragoon is something you should definitely avoid. Why, you ask? The answer is simple.
First, I'll start of by describing a plot:
A young, tortured soul returns to his hometown only to find it destroyed and his girlfriend kidnapped. Then, he goes and saves her. In the process of protecting her, they (the main characters) get caught up in something...bigger. That's about it people. There's not much originality thrown into here.
Now, the audio. Sound effects are okay, the voice acting is robotic at best and downright pitiful at worst. The music seems good if you've only heard the opening vocal, but let me tell you, folks, other than the ending theme, the soundtrack is absolute garbage. No interesting movies show up until the second disc, which is a pity, because there is nothing else that could possibly make me like this game.
Avoid at all costs.

Ok, rather than go into the technical issues with the game - let me just list the two big ones 1. Inventory is extremely limited -extremely limited! 2.Additions level up slowly or get really complicated quickly. Damage is based on eye-button coordination, which isn't really a bad thing, but after an hour of playing...well, I said I wasn't going to get technical.
I actually recommend this game to RPG fans, despite its flaws, bad dialogue and haphazard story. However, I have one recommendation to add: play with a friend. Trade off every half hour or so, and add your own dialogue. Comment on storyline, character look and sound. Make fun of the actor's voices. My friend and I play, and whenever Dart falls down, one of us cries "Ah! My Gaps!" (Dart is a snappy shopper with those bluejeans on)
This game could be highly enjoyable if you take it with a grain of salt, or a salt block (whatever works). It was supposed to be a big, epic game, probably on line with Final Fantasy *chuckles*, and it doesn't work. Ok, let's move on from that - so it's not a FF game, but there is fun to be had if you loosen your RPG standards and let this game in. It's like playing with a Kooshball- no one has to comprehend how something that oddball is so much fun. That's how I see "Legend of the Dragoon." Play with a friend (talking to yourself or at your TV by yourself is stigmatized), and appreciate what the game does well - color.
If you have atleast a 3rd grade reading level, forget this 1

Thats right. By now you have probaly finish reading countlessreveiws on how good this game is. I forked over the [the money] two days after this game was released, keeping inside me high hopes of success from SONY. I popped the 1st disk in and within 5 minutes found countless gramatical errors! I tried to just skip over them, ignoring them if you will, but I just couldn't stop my eyes from falling on sentences like this one " Okay, we go to the inn to rest." , and " Dart, you the only one who can save us." What the heck is going on here?! I mean come on, When I was reading the storyline I felt like I was in 3rd grade again..Jeez Sony, not only that, but in battle the voice recordings sound like a robotic penguin underwater...It is really sad that it took SONY to produce such a sad, and poorly written game. After Beyond the Beyond, Legend of LeGaia, Wild Arms, and Wild Arms 2, I thought that maybe SONY could get an RPG right, especially with the large production crew and time in development. But alas, they cannot. I would recomend that you pass this game over, or you will probaly find yourself putting the game on the shelf at Disk 2, and feeling like you had just been slapped in the face by SONY's iron hand....too bad.
P.S. ( it only scored a 2 b/c despite it's horrible plot and writing, the game contains wonderfully pre-rendered backgrounds, and stunning CG movies that rival Squaresofts.)
I really enjoyed this game

This was a great game. The storyline, while not completely original, was very well written; the sound was great; and the graphics were amazing. The backgrounds were some of the most detailed I've seen. Also, the combat system was nice in that it did something new that went beyond a mere push of a button for an attack.
The combo system used in this game takes timing into account during battles. Timing button pushes to the display onscreen results in more hits and additional combos the more they are used. The Dragoon aspect of the game was very interesting as well, but it seemed underutilized. That is probably my only complaint about the game. The battles were such that you really only used the Dragoon agains bosses because you'd want to keep using combos in regular attacks to increase your power. That's only a minor complaint though.
The sound was great. It was very full and escaped the high, whiny music often found in RPG titles. The story, while as I said not original, is very well done. Characters are very well developed and interaction is good. This adds to replay value because you can't really use all of the characters throughout the game, but need to focus on one group. There are enough characters to choose from that in replaying the game you can use all different characters.
This is a very solid game. Not as good as Final Fantasy VII (but I doubt any game will be), but much better than Final Fantasy VIII. The combo system is a nice addition. I highly recommend it.
The best game ever!

This is the best game I ever played! It's six times better than Final Fantasy will ever be! The graphics are surperb, the sound is exelent, and the control is perfect. The story line is great. You even get to choose what you want to say when your talking to someone! It is a very adictive game. Legend Of The Dragoon has alot of surprises.
one of the best RPG's ever

the first RPG i ever played was Final Fantasy 3, after that i was hooked and kept playing RPG's. i played the demo for Legend of Dragoon and bought the game that same day, it's one of the best RPG's. the storyline starts out simple, guy wants to save his girl, but then it gets more and more complicated, leading the party into a struggle to save all life from being wiped out, and also looking into the past. i really liked the game because the story was excellent, the battle system was way different and that made it cool, and the graphics on the movies are the best i've seen, even better than Final Fantasy 8.
Sony's new RPG?

If you liked games like Final Fantasy VIII you'll probably like this one. This is basicly sony's way of copying Squaresoft's Final Fantasy and Enix's Dragon Quest. But I have to give Sony some points for this is still a fun game to play.
Solid game, but no Final fantasy...

An interesting story with excellent graphics makes this a reliable RPG, although it does have its shortcomings. The combat system is somewhat akward in that it requires you to 'chain' your attacks (much like Vagrant Story), by hitting the X button just as you strike your opponent. The timing on this is incredibly sensitive, anything less than perfect fails. Each special move requires different timing, making it necessary to adjust each time you use a new move or character. To make things tougher, some enemies can block your chains (you can block a block with a quick change of buttons, but this certainly goes a long way to throwing off your timing). Add to this random camera angles you CANNOT control, and its going to be a looong time for you to master your attack moves. Characters can, however, change into 'Dragoons' (dragon warriors), which change the battle system entirely. A dragoon has a simple power up maneuver for physical attacks, or special spells. Each of your eight characters can comand up to four spells. The spells are somewhat predictable (the lightning dragoon casts lightning bolts - what else?), although graphically beautiful. The story itself is rather linear - only a couple of side quests. Over all, a good, solid RPG, but no Final Fantasy.
This Game is Awesome! One Of my Favorites.

First of all I was in the midlle of playing F.F.VIII before playing this game. Then when i start to play the Legend Of dragoon, i was totally amazed by the movie. THEY TALK TOO! I coudnt stop playing this game. The features are great with all the additions (although i have to admit that its hard at first to do an addition), the dragoon transformation is so kewl, and the characters can level up eventhough they're not in your party which is totally helpful. The story is great but its kinda confusing at first. The game is long..it took me 25-30 hours just to finish the first disc but the rest are not that long.....I love Disc 3 of this game cuz there's alot of movie sequence. I tell you the movies are so real and they talk unlike Final Fantasy. oh well thats all I can say. I'm going to play the game again from the beginning after i finish it cuz i didnt mastered all the addition, i'm missing 10 stardust (should be 50), i want to understand the story....after that i'm going back to F.F.VIII and finish it..
