Pretty good game.But..........

Legend Of Dragoon is a real good game but it has its weak points for instance there are very few animated scenes, second while the battle aninimation is cool at first, it starts to suck when you start fighting lower class enemies(and you fight a lot of lower class enemies). Also the storyline turns real gay when it seems like your just running from town to town meeting other people who have the abillity to turn into the Dragoon(lancer). But despite cons like that that would normally make any other game just suck completeley, it more than makes up with a great battle system which allows you to actually have some stradegy in combat, also the beutifully illustrated towns and though there are not many the CG scenes are simply stunning. Overall this is a good game with a few storyline twists and turns. It might seem to be boring at first but stick with it in the end this game is more than a rival to Squaresofts Final Fantasy series!

A completely misunderstood game.

People who expect too much from a game should be ashamed of themselves. You people need to understand that this game is NOT Final Fantasy. Don't even expect this type of game to be like it. People who have given this game bad reviews have honestly not given this game a fair enough chance.

The storyline, was awesome. It needed a little bit of fine-tuning, but otherwise, good. The battle system is also really unique. You use a special ability called "Additions", for when the cross [X] button is pressed at the proper time, you can increase the power of your attack.

The translation of the game can leave somebody a little bit frustrated from time to time, with some bizarre grammatical errors (ex. "Oh my god?!"), and some of the dubbing over with the CGI was out of place.

If you take away those errors, this really is a good, high class game. The battles can get a little bit repetitive and boring, and the battle music could take a little bit of time getting used to, but some of the music composed is breathtaking and unforgetable.

Give this game a chance, and rent it. Or, if you're the type of people who like every single game you've ever played, buy it, enjoy it. Regret it you will not, guaranteed.

I really enjoy this game. I'm in no way saying that it is perfect, I still prefer FFVIII, but it is a very nice game. The graphics are great. The regular play graphics (not CGI scenes) are shockingly good compared with my newly purchased FFIX. At the begining I was upset at the lack of CGI sequences (I'm a shallow CG major so I love that stuff), but my hunger was sated in disc 3. I enjoy the battle system. Having to master the complicated additions kept me active, when in FFVIII I would occasionally be getting a snack while my characters acted out the commands. Unfortunately, the battles were all too frequent. Random encounters slowed play with no option of walking on 'safe' roads. There was the abilty to reduce encounters with cheap charm potions, but it was altogether just as annoying. Finally, I didn't feel the same connection with the characters as I did in FFVIII. Several reviewers have called FFVIII's character development too complicated, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. While this might not become your favorite game, it is certainly worth a play or two.

A huge RPG epic...

While it's not very original, The Legend of Dragoon is an addicting and highly entertaining RPG worth playing.

Graphics 7/10: The backrounds are pretty nice and the FMV's are simply amazing, however, the battle graphics and character models seem outdated. And the designs of the Dragoon armors are pretty horrible.

Gameplay 8/10: The gameplay is basically the same as any RPG you would play, however, the battle system is quite different... it uses "Additions" where you have to press the X button at the right time to allflict more damage and complete your combo. As you progress you will gain more combos, magic, etc... The battles heavily rely on combos and attacking and magic isn't used as much as you would hope, however, it's very fun and isn't boring like many of the RPGS out there.

Music 7/10: Most of it is forgettable, however certain themes definently stand out.

Sound 9/10: Nothing to worry about... however, their is voice acting during the FMV's.

Control 10/10: Spot-on, nuff' said.

Story 7/10: It basically revolves around Dart looking for the "Black Monster" who destroyed two of his hometowns which caused the death of his parents. Along the way you'll meet up with other characters, particulary Dart's childhood friend Shana who he considers his "baby sister". Along the way, many conflicts arise and yada yada... you become dragoons, etc..... you know what I mean. It's an overall above average plot that held my interest the whole way through, however, the first disc is pretty tedious. The 2nd disc is AMAZING though. Just get past that first disc :).

Replaybility 9/10: The game is probably long enough for most of you people out there. It's 4 discs and probably will take you fairly long to beat it. The game is pretty huge... there are litterally TONS of places to go. That includes towns, castles, dungeons... etc.. The game is pretty linear but then again, most console RPG's are.

Fun Factor 9/10: Very fun, very addicting, very entertaining... what else do you need to know?

Overall 8/10: An overall above-average RPG definently worth buying. The game may seem dull at first because of the tedious first Disc... but after that, the game COMPLETELY redeems itself on the 2nd disc. I mean it, the 2nd disc is amazing. It's a very happy part of the game that focuses more on the characters personalities. A lot of things happen as well :). So in the end, I liked the game alot. At first I thought it was a piece of [junk] but once I finished that first disc and finally played through the 2nd one, I was happy as anyone could possibly be. So if you like console RPGS in general, just go get this game!

Final Fantasy What?

Before I bought The Legend of Dragoon, I looked over some reviews and saw both positive and negative things about the game. Taking a risk, I bought the game, and found it to be one of the best RPGs I have ever played.

Dragoon takes elements from Super Mario RPG by using timed attacks, or "additions". It must be said that it is a unique system of combat that will make the gamer have to "get into" the game to do good.

Along with gameplay, the graphics shine above any other rpg, including Final Fantasy 8. The story is great, and I thought about it even when I wasn't playing it. Worried about replay value? Don't worry, because the game spans 4cds and takes around 70-80 hours to beat.

If you are even remotely into rpgs, and you are looking for a great title for the summer, buy this game immediatly. You will be thanking yourself afterwards.

One of the BEST GAMES out for any system.

Legend of Dragoon is a awesome game. The characters are people that you can relate to in real life. The battle system is one of the best around. The graphics are the best I have ever seen on Playstaion. And finally, the story line is amazing.

CHARACTERS: The first character that you get is Dart. His town was destroyed and parents killed by the Black Monster when he was only 4 years old. Rose is the next character who is one of the Dragoons from 11,000 years ago. Since she is a dragoon, there is no aging process for her. She is a mysterious person with some secrets around her. Shana is Dart's girlfriend from the town that he goes to when is home town is destroyed. She gets kidnapped at the very beginning and Dart has to save her but she is a very sentimental kind of person. Lavitz is the next character who is a Knight of Basil and works for King Albert. He is a very good person to use because his magic and physical attacks are very good. King Albert is the next main character who you get at the very beginning of the second CD. He is identicle to Lavitz and is a very good spearsmen as well. Haschel is the martial artist who you meet after the Hero Compitition on the 1st CD. He is very good if you know how to use him. Kongol is the last of the Giganto race and to put it plainly, he is a giant. He is taller than any of the other guys and carries a HUMONGOUS axe. Meru is the character who is a dancer and is very exited about everything. She is frisky all of the time and she carries a big mace which she is not afraid to use. The last person is Miranda. She is exactly the same as Shana but is the First Sacred Sister to Queen Theresa. She is an archer as well.

BATTLE: In battle, you use what are called Additions. They are instead of hitting the person once, you have to learn the timeing and then you have to hit people multiple times to be able to get a good hit. To get new additions, you have to do the one that you are using at least 100 times.

GRAPHICS: The graphics to this game are phenomenal. If there is another game on Playstation with better graphics, please e-mail me at Goku067@aol.com because I don't think there is one. Also, the FMV's are awesome. It is like real life.

STORY: The story to this game is that Dart is trying to find and kill the Black Monster. Rose is just a wandering warrior who helps some people. Lavitz works for King Albert. Shana just goes with Dart. Albert tries to avenge the deaths of his people. Haschel is trying to find his long lost daughter Claire. (Darts mom is also named Claire. Coincidence?) Miranda works for Queen Theresa. Kongol just tries to make friends because he doesn't fit in. And Meru is trying to make it in the outside world. The characters meet many people and go through many challenges but all in all, this is a excellent game that I would recommend to any RPG or fantasy player out there.

Legend of Dragoon is tons better than any of the Final Fantasy games because it doesn't have a lot of boring dialoge that doesn't really relate to the story. The sound is somewhat better than previous RPG's because there are some dialogue between characters and the background music is good but in some areas it gets annoying after a while. The graphics are exactly like FF8 durring the FMV's but the in-game graphics ten times better. The story is very well written. Overall LOD is a fun RPG that will take you atleast 80hrs. to complete. I highly recomend it.

I was very disappointed:(

If you are a diehard RPG fan like i am and you are looking for a GREAT game that you can spend hours on end exploring....this is not the game, sorry. I admit it was a good game but there were ONLY 2 SUB-QUESTS! Unlike the Final Fantasy series, in this game you are unable to explore the world map since your character can only travel along a specified track. And one more thing, i heard this game promised about 100 hours of playing time, i only obtained 32 hours of playing time. I was very disappointed. Although i have to admit once again it was a good game, the graphics were great and the story-line was pretty good, but the game in itself was just too easy:(

Watch out for this game, it will cause you to lose great amounts of sleep. I could not put this game down. First I'll start with the graphics. Beautiful, stunning, remarkable. Second the gameplay system. I loved it especially the additions. It gives you a more active role than just telling your character what to do and waiting for them to perform the move. Your button presses make a difference in the number of hits you get and therefore the damage you do. The sound was not the best part of the game but it was very good. I thought the music was kind of repetitive but it did have some good scores in it. But in no way does it take away from the gameplay. I would definitely say this was one of the best RPG's I have played.
