It didn't take Nintendo long before they figured out that if they took all their cool characters and crammed them into a fighter with great graphics and sound that the end result would be an awesome game. The whole gang is here, including the Mario Bros., Pikachu, Link, DK, Kirby, Fox, and Yoshi. Up to four players can pit themselves against each other in eight different fighting arenas. The one player mode is equally entertaining, and the secrets to be unlocked will keep you playing for hours.
GRAPHICS: Smash Bros. sports a great look with bright colors, eye popping effects, and detailed characters and backgrounds. Occasionally during the multiplayer, however, there is some slowdown.
CONTROL: The controls are extremely simple and easy to master. But a lot of the moves strongly rely on the analog joystick for execution, which can be frustrating in the heat of battle.
SOUND: Smash Bros.'s sounds will be music to your ears. The theme music which accompanies each stage flows nicely with the various character voices. The only cons are the annoying cries of Pikachu, which may appeal to Pokemon fanatics.
Good Choice

I'd say Super Smash Brothers is a good choice of a video game because: A. It's Fun; B. It's Non-Violent; C. It's Funny; D. It's a fighting game; E. It's 4 player; F. You can team up with a human or computer; G. It tells data about the characters; H. It's got Pokemon; I. It has star fox, Link and Samus; J. It has the top 12 Nintendo Characters; The parents are in luck too, the usaul fighting games are very violent and Super Smash Brothers isn't.
I would put 6 stars if it weren't for the 1 Player Games!

This is a cool game. If you ever get bored of Yosi's Island or Super Mario 64, then just pop this game in and have a duel between the two!
Pros: Items add suspense to the game. (believe me, when I play with my brother or sister and I get a bomb-om or bat, my ears start to ring from their screaming!) Extra prizes like item switch, x-tra characters and stages make you be able to customize games or even duel pokemon! There is a training mode, a 1P mode, a Muli-player mode, even a bonus mode! Graphics are great. There is even a ranking system for vs. modes! There are bios (and stages in gameplay mode) for each character, and I think that I might reach the 1,000 word maximum if I keep talking about Pros. So,
ON TO THE CONS (And there aren't very many.)
Cons: 1P mode can get a bit boring They left out key characters like Bowser from Mario and Wario. But still, they have a pretty good selection of characters.
Hope this helps you!
P.S. I do reccomend that if you have siblings close in age, this game is AWESOME!
Before there was Melee, there was this

Super Smash Bros. for the N64 should be considered the greatest fighting game for the older systems. 12 Nintendo characters meet up in fierce competition to throw each other from the arena. Unlike other fighting games, melee focuses on knocking people out of the arena, rather than beating them up. Also, the controls are very easy to master, unlike in other fighting games. Items appear in the arena to battle with, there's battle arenas from select Nintendo games, and the multi player aspect is spectacular. Up to four people can compete against each other simultaneously in all our brawls. You can actually play this game for hours on end and not get bored of it. If you don't have a GameCube and Super Smash Bros. Melee for it, then definitely get Smash Bros. for the 64. Its fantastic fun.

Nintendo -cute,fluffy and twee. Unfortunatley alot of people associate those words with Nintendo and naturally assume that it is for a much younger audience. When in fact they make incredibly deep and enjoyable games which are ageless.Super Smash Bros. has been dubbed a cartoon beat 'em up, but after playing it I wouldn't say it was that, it is much more enjoyable than your Mortal Kombats or even your Tekkens- because it is very innovative and is very satisfying despite lack ofgore.Another reason that it rises above the rest is because it is still enjoyable on one player and the possibility of a mixture of human and computer players and power ups means that there is alot of variety. The multiplayer is UNBELIEVABLE! Four player is one of its' biggest strengths. Basically if you have a Nintendo 64, buy this, This is excellence.
this game rocks!

This game rocks because each character has their own special moves. Also, there's more than beating the game, such as getting special characters and a secret place to battle. You can be 8 different characters. Those characters are: Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, Pikachu, Samus, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and Link. The secret characters are: Ness, Luigi, Captain Falcon, and Jigglypuff. I hope this reveiw helped you.
The Best and least violent fighting game of all time.

Well, I bought this game about half a year ago, close to when it came out. I did not know what to expect, all I knew was that I was buying a unique fighting game with a lot of Nintendo Characters. I played through the single player mode which was very easy..but I was not dissapointed. Instead of being required to knock peoples heads off to win the match, it was much easier to knock them off the ring, and then have them magically appear over again. No blood, no gore. Perhaps that is what makes this game so enjoyable. The multiplayer is the best out there...better than Starcraft for the computer, better than Pokemon, better than Goldeneye, and all with no blood, no violence except the animated kicks and punches. Almost no slowdown in framerate with four players, and no glitches. There are hidden characters, and a very very wide variety of arenas. More arenas would have been better..but the amount is perfectly fine. Adding to the variety are all the items that you can pick up. Star Wars like swords, tomatoes to refill damage percentage(which controls when you get thrown out of the arena), famous fire flowers, a pinball bumper, a laser, a magic star wand, green and red shells, a super powered baseball bat...and finally, explosive barrels. Play with characters from Donkey Kong to Link, Jiggly Puff, to Ness, Samus to Luigi and Mario. Get this game, I guarantee you will enjoy it to the fullest, and will NEVER EVER get tired of it...I never have.
Excellent Game for the 64

This is a great game. It's unique and if I could, I'd give it a sixth star. It's a fighting game that features characters from different Nintendo games from past to present. They include....Link (from the Zelda Series), Kirby (from Kirby's Dreamland), Samus (from Metroid and Super Metroid), Mario (from all the Mario games), Yoshi (from Yoshi's Story), Fox McCloud (from Starfox and Starfox 64), Donkey Kong, (from the Donkey Kong Country series), Pikachu, (from the Pokemon games), and four other "sercret" characters that can be "unlocked" from the game by completing certain Single player tasks. One of the best things about this game is that each characters' fighting moves and techniques is somewhat based on Items or abilities that the characters had in previous games. For example, Link has his hookshot, boomerang, bobms, and of course, his sword; and Samus has her charge shot.
In the One-player mode in this game, You can choose your character, computer skill level, and your life stock to make the series of fights as challenging as you want. I'll be honest with you.....don't buy this game for just its one player mode. It's best feature is its multi-player mode.
This is probably one of (if not) the best multi-player games for the N64! Multi-player mode puts together strategy, skill, and common sense all at once. It's multi-player mode NEVER seems to get old, as I have enjoyed it for well over a year now, and I'm still trying to master each character! In this aspect, it's different from other fighting games for the 64.
This is in my opinion, the best fighting game for the 64, period. I urge you to buy it, as your money will not go to waste. You'll be glad you bought it. I know I was, or I wouldn't be spending my time writing this, correct?

This is a great game to buy for people who have been using Nintendo for years and those who are new to the license. Smash Brothers is a fighting game where nintendo characters (Mario, Yoshi, Starfox, Pikachu, Samus, Kirby and more duke it out. There are four hidden characters, a few hidden features, and a hidden arena to be unlocked after a ton of gameplay. The sound is good and the graphics are good also. A fun game to both play and watch
