One of the best N64 games

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 4

Right here folks, this game features all of your (or at least all of my) favorite characters including Fox McCloud of Star Fox and Link of Legend Of Zelda: Occarina of Time. Not just another fighting game, with the special weapons that fall from the sky and the lack of blood. The game is not based on killing your opponent, but knocking him off the screen in one way or another. This is a definite nominee for Game of the Year this year.

Nothing beats this for fun factor!

Where to begin? This game is simply amazing! The idea of a 4-player slugfest is one that has long been overdue to appear in a game. You can choose to go free-for-all in a no-holds barred 4-player match or team up in pairs (or 3 on 1!). Regardless, get set for pure action! In fact, for many, they may not be able to keep up with all that is going on during their first few matches...there is just too much going on with 4 characters simultaneous play and numerous background distractions, all of which makes for sheer, unrelenting action.

The graphics are really great...top notch character animation and beautiful backgrounds. The controls are simple and intuitive...no complex joystick and button combinations, just a joystick and 3 buttons. However, good clean, simple fun does not detract from expert play. The game is deep enough for experienced players to experiment with combos and strategies but even for beginners, it is easy to take part in the fun of mindless, cartoon violence.

What is a big plus for many people is that the violence of this game is akin to that of a pillow fight: bloodless and cartoonlike. For concerned parents, this game is harmless enough; for the hardcore gamer, the highly-entertaining, comical animations make up for the lack of blood, gore, and realism.

I do have some minor quibbles with the game, which reflect the 4-star rating I gave to it. There are only 12 characters, which is plenty for most players, but compared to many current fighting games, it's not much. I'm sure many people wish that another favorite Nintendo character of theirs had made it into the game. Secondly, for those used to fighting games with game balance, Smash Brothers practically oozes cheesiness; that is, underhanded, opportunistic tactics. To some, this may offend their sense of fair play. Yet to others, including myself, this just increases the fun factor: Smash Brothers is the ultimate 4-player party game, full of intense action, and people should not take it so seriously that they cannot enjoy a good laugh over the fate of their poor character.

Super Smash Brothers is Wonderful!

This has to be one of the best games I have played for the N64, it's right up there with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The graphics are great, and the multiplayer is awesome! Even if you don't have a buddy to play with, play against the computer. You will not get bored with this game. I highly suggest buying this one.

Great Fun for Our Family

This is a great family-safe game with the appeal of a "fighter" game without the realistic violence of a "Tekken" or "Mortal Kombat". Additionally, all of the arenas are considerably larger than the traditional "fighter" genre, giving the game the reminiscent feel of the classic "Joust" game. My 9-year-old son, my wife and I often play 3 player matches against each other and we have a blast! If you're a Video Game Family, this is a can't-miss!

A great fighting game with your favorite Nintendo characters

Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 is one of the best games ever made. It includes 8 characters from different Nintendo games. You can chosoe to play with Mario, Luigi, Link, Ness, Kirby, Samus Jigglypuff and Pikachu. The graphics are great and the animations flow smoothly as you play.

There are hidden characters and a large variety of arena's from many different Nintendo games to battle in. There are several aweosme modes to play in, including Battle mode, training mode and even a bonus mode! In addition, there are several items you can pick up to fight your opponents an to help restore your health. There are swords, fire flowers, lasers, a magic star wand, red and green shells, tomatoes to restore damage percentage, a super baseball bat and explosive barrels. There are also falling Snorlax's (giant Pokemon) that fall out of the sky and try to land on you.

I highly recommend this game to any Nintendo 64 owner. If you own a GameCube look for Super Smash Bros Melee.

Smash Bros. is SMASHIN!!!

The first time I played Super Smash Bros., I had no clue as to what button did what. But after about 30 seconds of playing, i had all the controls figured out! Thats how easy this game is to learn. Of course, easy or simple doesn't mean bad.

Multiplayer can be summed up in 1 word: AMAZING. I started playin 4 player with my friends, and we just couldn't quit! Time and time again, we enjoyed punching, throwing, kicking, swiping, blasting, etc. each other off the edge. It's one of the most addictive multiplayer modes that there is! You acn also use computer controled fighters here.

Single player is the only weakness of this game. You always fight in the same order, over and over, with every character. The first few times it will be a blast, but it may get repetitive after that.

Even with that weakness, I still say that this game deserves 5 stars. Chances are, no matter what your tastes, you'll love this game!

Why this is the best fighting game?

Super Smash Brothers is my favorite fighting game on the Nintendo 64 console. Even though it's most fun when played in the multi-player mode, it keeps me playing for ours. with eight original characters, 4 secrect characters, and one secret level. Completed with all your favorite nintendo characters such as: Link, Samus, Mario, Yoshi, Kirby, Pikachu, Star Fox and Donkey Kong. And with JigglyPuff, Captain Flaco, Luigi and Ness as the hidden characters. And it includes eight levels which are tooken from their games! This is like super mario meets mortal kombat. It is a must-have for all n64 owners.

No blood or guts here.

Cartoon characters fight each other. No blood, guts or violent death scenes. This is a good parent choice for a kid wanting any of the fighting games.

A really good game

This game is a really good fighter for younger players. It has good graphics and a healthy assortment of characters. The biggest complaint I have is that it is too easy. Even on the most difficult level it only takes me about a half hour to whip through a complete game.

Overall? If you have young (10 years or so) children who are into this type of game, pick it up. Otherwise, go for Mortal Kombat.

smash bros is one big smash!

(my son is going to do this reviwe)(I am 12 years old)my name is Andrew. all I can say is wow. this is the best 1, 2, 3, or 4 player game of all you can choose up to 8 people (and 4 hiden people) and they are jigglypuff, c.falcon ,luigi, and ness. and the people from the start are. Kirby (my favorite) Yoshi (my other favorite) zelda, samus, mario, DK, pikachu, and fox. it is the best game I own. each person has different powers. but all of them have B attack, up B attack, down B attack, A attack, smash attacks, a block, a throw attack oh and punches and kicks and a bunch of other combos. and all of them are different. well luigi's and mario's are sort of a like. and lots of battle arenas. and you can copy some ones B attack if you are kirby. my favorite person to play with is kirby he may be a little cute pink cuddly puff ball (...) oh and I like yoshi at first I hated yoshi but then I used him and he was prety darn good. my little brother likes samus. I like every body but my favorites are yoshi and Kirby. and if you think this looks like a little kid game you are wrong. it is packed with punches and kicks. oh and I want a game cube because they have super smash brothers melee but it is to much $$$. oh and super smash bros melee has a bunch of new people to choose and different battle arenas and a lot better graphics. and lots of new stuff. so you had better buy this game. it is the best game vever!. it is one big smash! trust me you are going to like it. so get out there and buy this super awsom (...) game. it rocks!!!
